Jonathan Harker knocked me flat with this one. his speculation that vampirism spreads because people willingly follow their loved ones into damnation is so affecting. and it's an insight that's so uniquely him. the gothic heroine in him can see Dracula's world in a way the others seemingly can't. he can look at the situation without any concerns of rationalism, honour, god, or any other facet of Victorian society, and reach this truth: we will walk into any horror for love
Whenever Mina talks about how much of a wreck of his former self Jonathan is and how she misses the old strong, resolute, noble nature of Jonathan and so on she does it in letters to Lucy, so never intended for Jonathan to read it, but to him directly she unabashedly supports him and tells him that she believes in him. She is beyond excited for him when he rallies and takes charge, as a result!
Jonathan gets nothing but love and strength from her. I can see why he escaped and defied cliffs, walls, wolves, and mountains, to find her again and win her hand.

This part emphasizes something that's a reality but is left unsaid: in traditional marriage, even in many societies today, the bride-to-be needs to have a good dowry, no matter her class (which is why for many families collecting a dowry for your daughter is a lifetime process).
As an orphan with no family (just like Jonathan, putting them in almost equal standing) she has no such thing to give, all she has is her love and trust.

the thing about misogyny is that femininity is both devalued AND forced on women (and those misgendered as women). if you fail to meet the arbitrary standard of Womanly Charm you're ugly and unwanted and hate yourself and if you succeed you're shallow and brainless and weak. if you don't try to conform you're lazy and if you do you're vain. it is not possible to beat this system. feminism needs both "feminine doesn't mean weak or less-than" AND "women don't have to be feminine to have value", and if you are fighting for one of these the people fighting for the other are not your enemies, nor are they privileged over you.
