maybe there never were any twin towers. like did u ever see them?
So I know all you kids are joking around but no, you’re not allowed to make jokes about this. No.
Can’t just leave this in the tags, @the-starboy-symbiont
All of the above, plus:
For years after 9/11 we were constantly told “NEVER FORGET” and the idea was basically “keep feeling sad and afraid and especially ANGRY forever; don’t let time dull your emotional response like it’s naturally supposed to; continue to justify the injustices by feeling this way all the time.” And the 3000 deaths were constantly pointed to as this huge deal that justified any lengths to go to.
And then Covid hit. And there were several points during the height of the pandemic (because fun fact, according to the actual definitions of a pandemic, *it’s not technically over yet!* ) where we were having a 9/11’s worth of deaths every week or so. And suddenly 3000 deaths were not a big deal at all. Instead of being enough reason to go to war far away and strip us at home of many rights too, they weren’t even enough justification to make people wear a damn piece of fabric over their face.
3000 people died once and now the government can legally wiretap anyone without a warrant, and hold people at Gitmo under suspicion of terrorism (no need for due process)… 3000 people dying every week but we should all still be going out to brunch and concerts and who cares about the disabled and immunocompromised?
Something in me broke. Make all the 9/11 jokes you want.
The first funny bitch was Cain, who straight up lied to God after killing his brother.
God: where’s Abel?
Cain: fuck if I know??? I’m not in charge of him
It is TRAGIC that you can’t read this in the original Hebrew.
God: Where’s the Sheepkeeper?
Cain: Do I LOOK like a Brotherkeeper?
God: hey where’s Abel???
Cain:
He killed his yonger brother in cold blood because he was jealous of him. There is in no way anything funny about this. No hesitation just poped a rock over his turned head, droped his body over the edged and tried to lie to god about what he did. FUCK YALL CRAZIES!!!
oh are those the receipts, Cain is problematic now?
Cainceled
This post gets worse every reblog
yet im not Abel to scroll past
“It’s easy to assume”: someone’s misconception is about to be amiably corrected
“It’s tempting to assume”: someone’s assumption is about to be criticized
“It’s comforting to assume”: someone’s assumption is going to be read for filth
My new favorite thing is journalism that treats the United States like we do other countries.

“there’s an ai tool for that” okay ?? there’s probably an ed sheeran song for it too who gives a fuck
hey did ya'll know that ed sheeran is working on a series of 6 albums named after media player buttons and the first one released last year and the last one is to be released posthumously on the day that he dies
That doesn't sound right but I don't know enough about Ed Sheeran to prove otherwise
…huh
You dig a big enough hole that water can stay in, it becomes a pond. And once it's been a pond for long enough, fish somehow appear. Even though it's not connected to any other water - hell, consider all the lakes that aren't connected to any other water. How the fuck are there fish? Where do they come from?
One day, something in space is going to look at humans the same way. You go to a new galaxy and there's freaking humans in there, like they just spontaneously manifest on random planets that have the ability to sustain them. All you need is an atmosphere with enough oxygen, some form of water, and that's pretty much all you need before they seem to just pop out of the ground and start terraforming it.
The mystery of the lake fish has been solved, by the way. It's waterfowl. Much like the birds that eat seeds and spread them around, waterfowl consume roe from the water, and while the number of fertilised fish eggs that pass through the digestive system of a duck or wild goose alive and unharmed may be small, it's not zero. A goose will shit in the lake water, and through comes the roe. It happens just often enough that lakes and ponds become - and remain - populated with fish.
Humans don't pop up on unknown planets and and unreachable galaxies on purpose. They couldn't get in there any more than they could get out of there, they have no choice but to claim the most viable-looking planet they can reach and start terraforming it. But how did they even get there?
You see, every once in a while an unfortunate human spaceship gets swallowed by a cosmic duck
Some fish are also just able to straight up walk on land
"They just walked there" is now my favourite theory of "how are lakes populated with fish".
am i even mentally ill or am i just living in some kind of infinite torture chamber that would make anyone like this
I booked myself in for a massage tomorrow with my physio lady cause my jaw and neck are all locked up from the dentist today and it makes you fill out a little questionnaire to better tell your PT what kind of treatment you need. except when I was filling it in I’d just taken a bunch of pain killers and words were hard but then I logged back in to make sure I’d actually booked it and
Reason for your visit?
What kind(s) of pain are you experiencing?
Special Requests
I shouldn’t be laughing, I feel awful, but I’m just imagining you addressing a person this way.
Don’t feel too bad, my physio lady was pissing herself laughing when I showed up. Everytime she tried to pull up my profile to talk about the appointment she’d devolve into hearty chuckling while apologizing continually for laughing at my expense.
And for anyone wondering she was able to ease a considerable amount of the pain. Even while occasionally breaking out into bouts of barely suppressed giggling.

CODED BIAS (2020) dir. Shalini Kantayya
Not just “not progress”. AI algorithms will, by design, make things worse. These algorithms are really good at picking out patters and reinforcing them. Keyword: reinforcing. It will notice that only 14% are women, and instead of continuing to pick 14% women it will pick 0% women.
There are things AI algorithms do really well, which are useful and cannot be achieved (or at least not as well) with traditional algorithms: filtering background noise from a recording, finding cancerous cells in a biopsy sample, predicting how you will move next to ensure you won’t lose your cell phone coverage. But they should never, never be asked to make “value” judgments which directly or indirectly have the potential to discriminate against people.
How come it won’t continue with 14%?
Somewhat simplified: when the algorithm is trained, it looks at the training data it’s fed (here that would likely be CVs of people Amazon ended up employing) and calculates which factors in the data are the strongest predictors for a “success”. Then it will come up with a way to combine those factors into a score (a formula, which is typically not visible/understandable to the person who created the algorithm), which is then translated into “call for interview” and “not call for interview”.
However, algorithms are stupid. They are really good at finding “cheat” factors to get good at predicting, factors which a human might (hopefully) disregard. So in this case, the algorithm will learn that being male (whether stated explicitly or implicitly in the CV) means a six times larger chance of being hired in the training data.
This means that the algorithm will notice that sex has a major impact on what it has been told “success” looks like. So it will end up weighting sex heavily in the final formula it comes up with to score applicants, which means that a CV from a woman will only get a high score if the other factors the algorithm has decided are important outweigh the low score in the sex category. Since it’s unlikely a woman will be enough better in other categories to outweigh the low score on “sex”, she will likely not be called to an interview.
This is always going to be a massive problem whenever there is a bias in the training data. There is no reliable, proven-to-work way to strip that bias so the algorithm disregards those factors, which means the algorithm will reproduce and reinforce biases in the training data. Machine learning and artificial intelligence should therefore only be applied in situations where either the risk of adverse outcomes is very low (spell checking your text messages) or where the training data is reasonably likely to be unbiased (minimising number of dropped calls in a cell network).
you know even aside from the VERY warranted criticisms of Joanne and her despicable politics I think everyone's been really wondering what the fuck there is to do with this enormous HP series on HBO other than beat more money out of the dead horse. like, what is there to explore that hasn't been covered by the generally well-received and inarguably iconic movies? what fresh interpretation of the story justifies all that?
and I do not have to hand it to them, but I will say that I never in a million years could have guessed that one of their hot new character reimaginings was going to be taking the head of the blood purity house, the guy who torments his students beyond reason on a regular basis, the guy who has a specific hate-on for the protagonist because he wanted to fuck that kid's mom, the guy whose hair and nose are frequently remarked on to emphasize that he's a unpleasant and creepy-looking motherfucker—never would I ever have guessed that anyone would have come up "hey, what if that guy was Black?"
and they went through with it! deranged! and you can't even chalk it up to any notable effort to diversify the series or anything; I've checked! this cast is still white as shit! as far as I can tell this is the only Black person employed by the entire wizard school! whole rest of the staff, white as hell. couldn't even pretend they gave enough of a shit to cast any other Black actors or other actors of color. just made the biggest shithead there a Black guy and patted themselves on the backs. truly everything Joanne touches is so seething with bigotry it's unreal.
it's like JK looked at all the bigotry in her series to see if she'd missed anything and realized she'd forgotten a scary Black man 💀
this post has the dubious honor of spawning one of the most genuinely braindead replies I've seen in over a decade of voluntary confinement in this clown fiesta of a website, which is a person expressing doubts that the British even known about the Scary Black Man stereotype and then doubling down by suggesting that British people are only scared of the Romani (not the term they used) because you need to actually know about something to be scared of it, which seems to imply that they think the British might not have anti-Blackness. what is it like to live in the world knowing so little about anything at all.
