To anyone who thinks "oh, but I like Marvel/Star Wars/the animated canon," I have good news! Lots of other people like these things too! In fact, so many people like these things that, if Disney folded, someone else would snap the licences right up! In fact, I can confidently say that if all copyrights were cancelled tomorrow, you would have *way more* Star Wars movies, and they would be allowed to take actual chances in terms of their narrative and character decisions! You don't actually *need* an enormous multinational monopoly named after a long-dead founder to bring you content featuring characters and scenarios created by other, often long-dead, people! You don't *need* someone charging you rent for something that would otherwise be free! In fact, you need that like you need a hole in the head!

Keep in mind that Disney is the reason that we’ve had a 20 year pause in stories entering the public domain, at the cost of so much culture that could have been produced, all for the sake of their bottom line.

#first time I saw these movies (or the first two at least) I was 11 and obviously into legolas because that’s what you do at that age#but i firmly believe that like an essential part of many fangirls’ sexual maturation was the moment they figured out aragorn was hot#like forget any of that other coming of age stuff formative moments of my appreciation of men were all about starting to appreciate dirty sc#scruffy masculinity and I have been over here sighing ever since (x)

entirely furious i got tricked into thinking the hit song Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend is about women being gold diggers when a critical re-reading reveals a catchy lament on the way men use women for their bodies while simultaneously enforcing a system wherein a woman’s financial stability is determined by male whims, hence the importance of securing gifts of real monetary value to save against a future of homelessness and destitution
