Can we put our critical thinking hats on when it comes to 'super adorable' videos of people cuddling otters and other wild animals. Most people would (hopefully) realise someone walking a tiger on a lead is bad but the minute it's an otter, meerkat, or monkey that goes out the window. The wildlife trade is horrendous, with low survival rates in transport, mutilation of animals to make them 'safe', and the fact their welfare simply can't be met in a domestic setting. Otters are social animals so a solo pet otter is already being deprived of natural social behaviours. Many traded animals are also endangered with the wildlife trade being a huge reason for this.
