I think the biggest pitfall of the human condition is when you make a statement about something you've come to understand about yourself over the course of the years you've lived, and someone else thinks you're saying that cause you're depressed and, because of that state, you only have this surface level comprehension of your own existence. Like for example if you said "I think on some level there is a tangible barrier between me and the achievement of most traditional modes of success" and your friend finds the sheer concrete existence of that limitation too awful to imagine so they say "you're sad. you're saying this because you're sad." when meanwhile the statement you have offered has the same weight to you as if you said you preferred chocolate ice-cream over vanilla. So you're just like why the fuck are they doing the equivalent of saying I only like chocolate ice-cream cause I'm sad. What the fuck. What's wrong with chocolate ice-cream. And when you're like "I'm not sad" they act like you're delusional because you've chosen to accept a base reality, not born from the constriction of your own dreams, not diminished or exacerbated by the opinions of others, but from a fairly normal and neutral assessment you've made about yourself. which you've made, because you know yourself ostensibly more than other people tend to know you. by virtue of being yourself
