I joked a few minutes ago about how in internet discourse anyone over 25 is a “queer elder” but come to think of it most of these young discoursers don’t even believe such a concept exists. Gay men who watched their entire friends groups perish to AIDS are “privileged cis gays,” older trans women who use dated terminology to describe their own experiences are problematic, elders are just a conservative old guard to rebel against, and anyone over thirty who speaks to you at all must be a predator. The first time I heard the phrase “okay groomer” online, it wasn’t coming from self identified conservatives but from tiktok teens reacting against leather at Pride. You guys are ignorant and uncultured and proud of it!

at what point will people get that real people do not queerbait. people are allowed the time and space to explore their identity and discover themselves as an individual and process it in their own way. coming out isn't the be all end all of things and the very idea is antithetical to what being queer is. being queer isn't a goal you achieve in a game, it's an ongoing process of self-exploration and introspection and self-discovery and you don't ever need to put a label on it if you don't want to. that's the beauty of being queer because it has such a wide horizon of possiblities that you can float on the high of it. and if at the end of this process of self-reflection someone realises that they aren't queer, then that's okay too. stop forcing people to come out, stop propagating this heteronormative idea, stop dictating other people's lives and identity. being queer is subjective to one's own identity and only they get a say in their identity, no one else.
