hi there, it’s not often i make my own posts, hence the name of the blog lol, but i’m going through some very desperate times atm.
i’m currently in debt, which isn’t surprising in this day and age, but i am out of options and can only reach out as best as i can with what limited resources i have. i’m a student, and i owe my university shy of £4000 in accommodation debt. i currently have no means of income, though i am looking for jobs to no success currently. i have been struggling with burnout for years now, and it has only exacerbated my worsening mental health. i had wanted to start drawing, to do commissions to give back to anybody who is able to help, but unfortunately i am not in any position to draw consistently for the time being.
like many other mentally ill trans individuals, my parents do not know about my struggles, let alone my financial struggles at the moment, but i am unfortunately still dependent on them (cultural thing, i think, as i still live with them). i cannot ask them for help.
i’m already struggling immensely, and while i understand it’s not exactly dire straits, it has driven me to the worst place i’ve mentally been in a very long time.
if anyone can donate anything, i promise that /anything/ helps. if you can’t donate, that is okay, thank you for taking the time to read through this, and all i ask is that you please share/reblog this post so it reaches more people.

Every once in a while, I wish the friendship meter from the Sims was real so that way when people tell me "I used Chat-GPT" they can visually see just how much respect I just lost for them in that moment.
One time an acquaintance told me she entered Snape's star chart into chatgpt and I could physically feel that meter dropping three separate times over the course of her sentence
Hey, if anyone’s curious, this IS making a serious impact — this handbook was taught as standard practice for my EMT license course, as well as several other programs. A lot of new providers are being taught this as a matter of course.
"having a large chest is the beauty standard" no having a large chest is the Sexual standard theres a difference. i can only even be Hot and everything i ever wear will be deemed too sexual for every single situation. tank top shows too much cleavege or side boob a button up is always too busty and a crop top will always show too much skin. having a large chest leads to so much back pain and sexualization and complaining about it makes people go "ahh grass is alwahs greener/you are the beauty standard, why complain?" like genuinely i urge yall to watch anything with a larger chested woman and notice, REALLY notice, that her chest is her entire personality. notice that people critiqing misogynist charavter designs alwayd tend to rally in the statement that large chest=misogny, casting aside the Many Many Many women and people who look like Me and just . have a large chest? and exist? and deserve respect and not to be seen as nothing more than a sex symbol by both sides? idk ikdayy
Possibly my spiciest take is that it's actually good to have people you respect and like that have some dogshit takes.
I think part of what is making young people lonelier, in discussing why they're increasingly isolated, is that they're so afraid of meeting someone who doesn't hold their same beliefs, and instead of being just core beliefs it is kinda ancillary shit.
It's actually okay to disagree even on social topics! Even on some political ones! But I mean, online you can start with "i love this mutual but they have a really bad/uninformed opinion about x media"
I know this is IMMEDIATELY going to be taken in bad faith, and yes babygirl, you are so right, I DO want you to go make best friends with both the KKK grand wizard AND your nearest nazi leader.
But seriously, as someone who has spent two decades doing community organization: finding ways to connect with different people is so so so important. There are people i follow here who ate 80% smart and their brain falls out of their head 20% of the time and that is GOOD FOR MY MENTAL ECOSYSTEM AND GOOD FOR LEARNING HOW TO BE A PERSON

It's not just that they're doing corruption, but they're doing the kind of corruption that is basically "guy hands over a cartoon money sack with dollar signs on it" corruption.
When I got my current job they made me sign a form acknowledging that I'll be immediately fired if I accept free mcdonalds or an amazon gift card from someone at a rival firm
This is a reminder for those who handmake Christmas presents that now is not too early to start. It may in fact be a good time to start if you have a lot to make/your craft takes a long time. You should maybe start it now, whether that's brainstorming or actually doing the crafts!
“we live in an uncaring universe” yeah dude and I live in an uncaring house. and I shit in an uncaring toilet. but do you touch an uncaring lover? do you comfort an uncaring child? do you guide to sleep each night a cold and uncaring self?
The pathologization of anger needs to be talked about. What do you mean my therapist is telling me that there’s something “chemically wrong” with me because I am still angry about my mom DYING OF COVID.
of course I’m still angry? My mom and 1.3 million other Americans are dead and you want me to shoot sunshine out of my ass about it?
“But It’s been 3 years since she died, you have complex grief” yeah and she was on a ventilator for 11 days and she kept writing “I am scared” and “I don’t want to die” on a notepad over and over again. While you were still going out unmasked and unvaccinated and coughing all over each other, I was living a nightmare I couldn’t fucking wake up from. And every single day I’m reminded of it in the form of “haha wasn’t the pandemic such a wacky time haha” and “I’m not getting a booster you can’t make me 🤪 (nobody asked)” and “it’s not real they made the numbers up!!!”
“You’re not coping” Ok here’s the deal; I’ll stop feeling this anger when we have a national memorial (we don’t) or a cdc equipped to stop it from happening again (we don’t) or a population that takes a deadly disease seriously BEFORE it effects them personally (WE DON’T!)
until then, I’m pretty sure my anger is A COMPLETELY NORMAL HUMAN REACTION given the facts at hand
The summer between the end of high school and the start of college, I wrote a ridiculous play about pirates and put on a staged reading with some friends at an amphitheatre at a local park before a small audience of friends and family. It was never published or staged again. But I just got a message from an old high school friend I haven’t seen in years. He accidentally quoted the play in a conversation with friends, was asked what he was quoting, he couldn’t remember either, and wracked his brain until he finally remembered it was that silly play reading that we did one day in the park over 10 years ago. It made me happy. (The line was, “Huzzah for mercantilism!” by the way.)
A very tiny percentage of creators go on to be famous, but that doesn’t mean that people don’t remember little things you did for years and years. Who came up with most of the world’s most famous jump rope rhymes? Who coined some of the famous idioms we use in daily speech? Who made up ‘Jingle Bells, Batman Smells?” Somehow, all of these things stuck and spread around.
When I was a small child, I saw a high school put on a production of the musical HONK. In one song, the mother duck describes various dangers that her baby should avoid in the water, including fishing line, which could strangle him. A member of the ensemble played the role of fishing line, doing a maniacal laugh and over-the-top strangling motions, and I found it hilarious– and to this day, that’s an example I often think of when talking about how ensemble members can still stand out in theatre. The guy who played the role might not even remember that he did that, but I do.
I took Suzuki violin lessons as a kid. The teacher made up lyrics to some of the songs, and she let her students make some up, too. Now whenever I hear the instrumental of one of those pieces, I always remember these ridiculous lyrics about a skunk that we sang in violin class. I don’t even know which student invented them!
In middle school, I found a video about atoms parodying Bill Nye made by some kids for a school product. It probably had less than 1,000 views, but I think of quotes from that video all the time. They had a parody of “We Will Rock You” with the chorus, “Protons, neutrons, electrons” that I think about a lot.
I just love that this is part of human life. Our memories don’t just pick up quotes from great art, literature, and music, but little things, too.

to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it you’re literally gonna be using that almost every day
"This is Chinese propaganda" yeah? Maybe I'd like American propaganda more if it was tight as fuck like giving your coworker a drift enabled Gundam wheelchair
instead we get messages that we are the strongest and best and because of these things you the individual should consent to ennobling suffering for the privilege of being alive, or to feel guilty and perhaps even die for needing help
There are tons of westerner youtubers like hacksmith and colin fuze that does basically the same thing yet people dont call those people propaganda. It really feels like people's view of china has never gotten past the pre second sino Japanese war image of the backwards illiterate peasent.
When the US does it it's culture and individualism and politically neutral but any piece of positive media that comes out of China is viewed with suspicion and a psyop of the state. They cannot comprehend that China is another nation that actually manages itself well and that it has a population with its own pride and culture. The myth of the big firewall makes Americans believe that all media that escapes is only Big Mao approved when it's really not like that. But also that is part of American propaganda, that a rival state is necessarily dysfunctional and evil and this is why we should not like them. anyway hell yeah
Hello, I really enjoy your Hanfu blog. I'm a Hanfu lover following various Hanfu bloggers on tumblr. I notice there is an article by CNN stigmatizing Hanfu recently. I see young chinese people on weibo are mocking this pretentious article and saying CNN is like a thief crying stop thief because it's this article, not Hanfu, that obviously has conspiracy and political purpose. I agree with them. I'd love to know how you see it.
Hi, I’m glad you enjoy my blog ^^ Thanks for the questions, and sorry for taking ages to reply! (hanfu photo via 玖柯9k):
Like I mentioned in my previous post, I received these asks many years ago, so the CNN article in question is old, but I'm pretty sure I read it (I've read pretty much every article on hanfu in English mainstream media). Although I don't recall the specific details of the article, I'm very much aware of the stigmatizing/disparaging angle and tone that you're referring to, which was commonplace in Western "news" about the hanfu movement at the time. As with a lot of news about China, they used dubious Western "sources" to paint a heavily biased view of the movement, politicizing/weaponizing it and trying to frame it as some kind of dangerous, nefarious plot.
Nowadays, as awareness and visibility of hanfu have grown immensely across real life and social media, this type of "reporting" about the movement has thankfully died down. The news articles that I see now are positive or at least neutral. This shift also occurred for the Wikipedia articles for "hanfu" and "hanfu movement".
Please see my post here for more discussion on this topic.
Hope this helps! ^^
Update:
Well, well, well. Looks like I spoke a little too soon, because Bloomberg published this "opinion piece" on July 22 2026:
"China's Hanfu Boom Is a Political Tool
Bloomberg Opinion columnist Karishma Vaswani says China's Hanfu boom gives young people comfort amid economic uncertainty and the Communist Party a tool for promoting national greatness. But nostalgia cannot create jobs, revive the property market or persuade young people to start families."
I'm not sure what qualifications this Karishma Vaswani person has to speak on the hanfu movement (none at all, I'm sure), but it appears Western mainstream media hasn't completely given up on its hanfu smear campaign yet. Since the "Han supremacy" angle didn't work, it looks like this time they're pivoting to idea of the movement as a sign of current economic uncertainty (never mind that the modern hanfu movement began in 2003, something which I'm sure Vaswani has no idea about).
There's a good rebuttal article from Global Times published a day later, from which I'll highlight certain segments here:
"A recent Bloomberg opinion column frames the Hanfu boom as a symptom of Chinese youth "finding comfort in an idealized version of the imperial era" amid the current economic uncertainties, even reducing Hanfu as a political tool used to promote sense of national greatness...
Why are some Western media outlets so eager to pathologize an otherwise harmless cultural and consumer trend?...this is simply the latest variation of a familiar Western doom-and-gloom narrative about China's economy...
Now Hanfu has been drafted as the latest "evidence" that young Chinese are escaping into nostalgia because of a slowing economy. In this narrative, Chinese young people lose all agency in aesthetic preferences, consumption choices, and cultural interests...
The Hanfu boom doesn't reflect escapism, but Chinese youth's growing cultural confidence alongside China's economic development and rising living standards...
China's younger generations are reshaping their cultural identity and giving traditional culture renewed vitality."
i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
say the fucking words, guys. just say the goddamn words before i go insane!!!
