I do think one of the best things about PHM is that Ryland Grace fundamentally, for a significant majority of his story, is not a hero. He is not someone you would want others to emulate. He is a coward who either runs from criticism or lashes out against it, he avoids responsibility like the plague, he shirks any sort of situation where he has to speak up.
He still gets the job done, though.
curiouser and curiouser
I spoke to my friend the other day and she said she had "yet to see a swedish film that is good". I told her about some swedish films I enjoy and she mentioned she hadn't seen those. She hasn't seen any Astrid Lindgren film at ALL (nor does she want to; I suggested it once and she said that's where her line goes), she has not seen Fucking Γ mΓ₯l and has said she "should watch it someday"... but she claims she just thinks swedish films are dumb because she thinks Swedish is a dumb language and she can't take anything seriously.
And like... this is something I have thought about. You never hear any english speaking person claim movies from their own countries are stupid because of that. Like yeah of course every country has bad movies, but never have I heard the reason being "the language is dumb" for an english speaking film.
But for not only swedish, but also other non-english countries, I've seen a similar trend. People who are overly critical to movies from their own countries cause they find "the language dumb" or just "it looks cheap". And I think that's kinda sad!!! There's SO MANY GOOD MOVIES out there and I feel privileged to have easy access to some of them by the pure reason that I understand the language and it might not have been marketed outside my own country. Too bad for everyone else that they won't enjoy this one! And then it's just sad when people speaking my own language won't even give it a chance cause they cringe hearing their native language.
This is also a bit of a circle problem.
βIt looks cheapβ βthe language is dumbβ etc. -> fewer people watch Swedish movies -> budget decrease -> βit looks cheapβ etc.

shout out to potc character Bootstrap Bill Turner because if he did not have the galaxy brain idea to hide a cursed piece of gold from a bloodthirsty, vicious, immortal pirate crew by sending it to his defenseless child, non of the movies would have taken place the way they did.

sometimes I forget the context for the lineΒ βthe real world is where the monsters areβ and I think its a dramatic line on the depravities of humanity or something and then I remember that its just twelve year Annabeth legit being likeΒ βno the real word is where the literal monsters are and I wanna FIGHTβΒ
so much could have been improved in the sequels if kylo ren hadnβt been force sensitive
no wait think about it. kylo ren not being force sensitive, but so desperate to be so heβs willing to do anything. he feels cheated out of his grand destiny, his powers that his mother and uncle (and cousin?) have. give me the story on the entitlement towards the force. it would have shown that the force is beyond biological, it always has been. it would have given a better reason for kylo ren to βfall to the dark sideβ, so desperate for a connection to the force that he plays the part of a dark sider, swinging a cracking red lightsaber around with no finesse or training, killing hoping that it will push him further into a dark side of the force he cannot feel. it would have given a reason for him to hate han; that because han isnβt force sensitive, itβs his fault that kylo isnβt either. kyloβs character would have been stronger because his choices would have been his own, instead of whatever whisper dream manipulations they were in canon. his evil has nothing to do with the force, but an entitled man trying to claim a power he believes is his by birthright.
this would have foiled perfectly with finn, too- one is a child born to the most powerful force sensitives in the galaxy who cannot feel the force. and finn is a child who was taken from his family, forced into soldier-hood, who feels such a deep and powerful connection to himself and the force that he breaks free. kylo ren, seething and entitled trying to claim a destiny and power that just arenβt his, and finn, who has suffered at kyloβs actions and still connected to the powerful light inside of him. the βnobodyβ hero of the sequels who has the power of the force and the legacy-born villain who doesnβt.
In these two Tumblr posts you've come up with a better plot for free than we got in a trilogy that cost MILLIONS of dollars to make
It would fit with Kylo's character in the first two films as well where he's basically a pathetic manchild edge-lord desperately doing space fascist-cosplay because he wants to feel important and powerful if it turns out that he wasn't "corrupted" by anything...the dark side didn't influence him at all, he's just deliberately choosing to be a monster because he WANTS to dark side to corrupt him further

hail mary, full of--
thinking about statues of Grace being built all around Erid years after his passing so he can continue to watch over Eridians as they sleep
a thing about me is i basically never notice a wig or other kind of hairpiece in tv/movies. it has to be party city territory for me to even twig it. people will complain about characters' wigs looking bad and i will nod along but there is like a 90% chance i did not notice for a second while watching. i consider this mostly a blessing.
