Itâs election times in Sweden and thus we have a lot of ads around town, both from the political party leaders and the local politicians for my city.
Iâm gonna compare how the different parties choose to get your attention.
The left party has the slogan âon your side!â where they present arguments that honestly to me sounds pretty reasonable because they are presented pretty vaguely.
âTo you who have thought: TO CHOOSE THE TRAIN SHOULD NOT BE A LUXURY. Vote for the left party. ON YOUR SIDE.â
âTo you who think itâs obvious that: SCHOOL SHOULD BE FOR THE CHILDREN, NOT THE SHAREHOLDERS.â
âTo you who thinks itâs granted that: THE SALARY SOULD BE ENOUGH FOR BOTH FOOD AND RENTâ
I do agree with their statements. This being said, they are also VAGUE. Like yeah you claim to be on my side but how can you prove it?
The moderates party has the slogan âfor a fairer Swedenâ
First ad is of our prime minister himself (yeah, the moderates is currently the leading party in Sweden. Theyâre âliberal-conservativeâ, at least according to Wikipedia). It says short and simply âWe get things done.â
What things? Things. Just things.
The other sign I found was from a politician in my city running for member of parliament. On it, it says âFeminist and right-wingedâ
I think this is to inspire more women to vote right. âFor a fairer Swedenâ
The center party just has straight-to-the-point arguments. Their slogan is âSweden can moreâ
The school should function for more [people].
Emissions should go down.
Well yeah you are correct Iâm not arguing against that. I do have a hard time to picture someone would read that and go âno, the school should function for LESS lol!! I want more children who fall behind because the school doesnât work like it should!â
But once again, vague. How would they possibly fix it so that the school would work for more?
A lot of the ads Iâve seen are related to schools - and I think it is mainly because I live close to a university and also a high school, so itâs more relevant in my area.
The environment party is also very straight-forward what they want
Sweden wins on green politics.
Also most of us us call them âthe environment partyâ but their full name is âthe environment party the greenâ which is kind of funny
They also do have an ad that explains more what theyâre thinking, which I appreciate
Less emissions creates more jobs.
We think bigger about the jobs. Ventures on the green transition creates jobs all across the country.
I appreciate actually explaining their idea more, so many of these are very vague.
The social partyâs slogan is âwe take Sweden seriouslyâ
This is the social party leader, staring into your soul and telling you âTime to take Sweden seriouslyâ. Her gaze is not angry - she looks more friendly, like she wants to take your hand and help you through it and weâll go take Sweden seriously together.
All their ads are something with âwe take X seriouslyâ
âWe take the welfare seriouslyâ
But this one was a little freaky

They do also have some more playful ads. See, a common nickname for social democracy is that itâs âsossigtâ. Which I guess in English would translate to like⊠âsoci-y?â. Anyway they just brag about things they have done in society.
School for everyone? Sickly soci-y. 1962 we introduced a 9-year mandatory school for everyone (in Sweden high school/upper secondary is not mandatory, even if nowadays youâre kinda screwed if you donât you donât go). 2026 we demand a profit ban in all schools.
Preschools? Unbeliveably soci-y. 2002 we introduced a maximum charge in preschools - for a cheaper and more available childcare. 2026 we invest 132 million (kr) to increase the staffing levels in -my city-
I didnât take a picture but itâs also really soci-y to have a first hand contract.
Close to where I live, itâs usually more left-leaning parties having their ads. The most right-winged is the moderates. That might say something about my specific area, Iâm sure they have data on what people mostly vote on here and thus make sure we get the most ads so they know when to vote for their party. To find other parties I had to go into the city centre where all the parties currently have booths to give flyers.
Let me show you the most alt-right party in the parliament, the Sweden Democrats, who has a very familiar slogan to another countyâs slogan. Their slogan is âWeâll make Sweden into Sweden againâ
They show their party leader smiling or doing ânormal thingsâ like fuel his car. Heâs just like you! He also has a car he needs to fuel! (I donât have a car nor a driverâs license but sure)
This fuckass bee, as well as the font of the text, feels like they want to play on some kind of nostalgia for a Sweden that, if I am being honest, am unsure ever existed. Cause they claim they want to make Sweden âinto Sweden againâ but which time period do they refer to? 50 years ago? 100 years ago? Back when we owned other countries 400ish years ago? The Viking ages??
Also⊠historically, ever since the monarchy stopped being the ones in charge of the country, itâs most often been the left (in particular the Social Democrats) who has had a dominance politically. So does the Sweden Democrats want to go back to that?
Now, there are more parties, including the Christian Democrats and the Liberals, but I cannot find them??? I went to the city centre to see if I could see them but they didnât even have booths? I did find ONE ad from the Christian Democrats though. Their slogan is âBelieve in Swedenâ (shocking slogan I know)
They just want to âstop the tax wasteâ and have less taxes in my city.
However, there are also parties that arenât in the parliament but you can still vote for alternatively, in case you feel like no party suits your views or values. One of these put on a smaller ad I passed by:
