“The LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that he’s the most boring average person in the world. It’s impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if she’s female she’s already SOMEthing, because she’s not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male. You can see this all over but it’s weirdly prevalent in children’s entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, who’s a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?”
— Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg commenting on how weird gendered defaults in entertainment are, and why we should think twice about them. Excerpted from this longer original post. (via 360degreesasthecrowflies)
That's not good enough😡 She should be given an award😤
A 24-year-old woman, Tu Quyen Nguyen, avoided jail after taking part in a violent vigilante-style attack in Brisbane. She and three others targeted a 20-year-old man after learning he was a sexual predator.
The group ambushed the predator, beating him for several minutes, damaging his car, and threatening him not to go to police.
She was sentenced to three years in prison but granted immediate parole (meaning she did not have to serve time in custody) because the judge considered her a participant, not the instigator.
"For something society taught women to hide, menstrual blood might be one of the body’s most powerful healing tools.
Research led by Dr. Jemma Evans at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research found that plasma derived from menstrual fluid helped repair wounds significantly faster than standard blood plasma in lab models. In human skin cells, menstrual fluid plasma achieved complete wound closure within 24 hours, compared to about 40% healing with regular blood plasma.
The findings are surprising, but it also makes sense. The uterine lining is one of the only tissues in the human body capable of rapid, scar-free repair, regenerating month after month throughout a woman’s life. Researchers found that menstrual fluid contains unique proteins that help cells move quickly to damaged tissue and support faster regeneration.

99.9% of my criticism of plastic surgery: it’s a deeply misogynistic, manipulative industry preying on the centuries long suffering, insecurities and expectations of women and rooted in pedophilia.

life is better when you're not malnourished btw

Op removed this reply and then turned off reblogs, so here you go.
I hate when they try to portray themselves as these meek shy beings just hoping for acceptance uwu. Demanding strange women perform emotional labor on the spot is the most male thing ever. Predator who thinks he’s prey type of shit.
like it's truly insane that "kill every single pedophile on this fucking planet" is a statement that people will disagree with
the most important virtues for the young woman are as follows: time theft, selfishness, orgasms, irreverence to authority, sacrilegious behavior, a questioning mind, and eating regular meals.

Correct, male socialization is something that happens *to* you, you don't get to choose it. Just like no one chose to be born in the United States, or be born straight or white or rich. You were born into a system that wants you to act in ways that affirm the system, and you must understand it lest you perpetuate it.
If you made this post about any other oppression system on Tumblr it would be shot dead by leftists on sight.
"White privilege is such an evil rhetoric. Yeah I guess being born white and being taught I'm better than Black people at the age of 5 is my fault and I'm evil for it. Yeah I guess having a white childhood I never asked for means I'm a danger and I should perpetually apologize for it." -> immediately recognizable as bullshit racists say
"Straight privilege is such an evil rhetoric. Yeah I guess being straight is my fault and I'm evil for it. Yeah I guess having a straight childhood I never asked for means I'm a danger and I should perpetually apologize for it." -> immediately recognizable as bullshit homophobes say
But stuff like this gets posted and acquires 2k likes.
Male socialization is not even specifically attacking MTFs but they have successfully guilted everyone into being scared to believe in it.
love when someone is like in my culture we respect women. that has literally never been a thing in any culture ever lol
