AO3 was founded partly in response to a growing trend of fanworks being removed from websites that had previously allowed them. This pattern has been observed numerous times throughout fandom history.
Whenever there are fears about censorship on other sites, AO3 sees an increase in the waitlist for our automatic invitation queue. Regardless of their reasons for joining, we welcome any new user to our site who agrees to abide by our Terms of Service. We will not vet new users for "legitimacy", because AO3 is for everyone.
The OTW has no plans to change the content we allow on AO3, and we stand by our commitment to maximum inclusiveness of fanwork content. We will not remove works unless they violate the AO3 Terms of Service, and we don't make decisions based on how many times something is reported. Users do not need to worry that anyone's works will be taken down due to a baseless report or a mass-reporting campaign, if one were to occur.
Regarding the unverified rumors that reports to the Policy & Abuse committee have greatly increased in the past few days, changes in ticket volume can be due to many different factors (including simple coincidence). If you're interested in learning more about how many and what kinds of reports the Policy & Abuse committee receives, we publish information about the previous month's tickets in our monthly newsletters as well as an annual breakdown of ticket types on the OTW website.

"...you ingested the entire written output of human civilization without consent, without compensation and without credit to build a system whose primary commercial application is eliminating the jobs of the people whose work you consumed.
You are not 'liberating human creativity' -- you are strip-mining it and selling it back at a markup while calling the theft 'training data'."
buck was in ketosis while he was dating tommy (famed carb enjoyer), symbolizing that he was denying himself the ability to truly appreciate and/or level with tommy to the fullest extent. now they're broken up all he does is bake, symbolizing that only now that they're apart does he really know what he's missing and is trying desperately to understand the recipe that makes up tommy kinard. in this essay i will-
I love how it appears that Tommy is the grounded, well-adjusted foil to Buck's devil-may-care adrenaline junkie, but I also have to remind myself that Tommy was the guy who was asked to steal a helicopter and fly it into a category 5 hurricane on a hunch, and he was like, "yeah, cool, let's go."
Buck probably thinks Tommy's a rational, responsible adult, because he's so considerate and he owns a house and he's so methodical when he takes Buck apart in bed and he's got a 401k and a Roth IRA account. The helicopter heist flight was definitely an outlier.
But eventually he learns the truth: Tommy's batshit insane.
Like, they're hanging in bed one morning and Buck's on his phone trying to solve the math riddle Hen sent him, and he laments the loss of his lightning-enhanced skills. And Tommy, turning the page on the WWI biography he's reading, absently says, "At least you got them. All I got was 30% hearing loss in my left ear."
Buck slowly lowers his phone and demands an explanation, and Tommy, still focused on his book, tells him about when he was struck by lightning. Both times. The second time he was in the middle of a hoist and winch rescue trying to get to the captain of a sunk fishing boat in the middle of open ocean during a storm. Tommy holds his place in his book with his thumb and shows Buck the picture Lucy took of his Lichtenberg burn—it spans the entirety of his back and goes halfway down his arms. Buck stares at it, stunned, then takes the phone and book out of Tommy's hands, tosses them on the floor, and proceeds to suck Tommy's brain out through his dick.
The first time Buck goes to see Tommy at Harbor, Tommy is still en route back from a call, so Buck gets to talking to two people named Nico and Dana who've worked with Tommy since he arrived. Buck sheepishly apologizes for putting Tommy in such a dangerous position with the hurricane.
Nico and Dana look at each other and snort. Nico puts his hand on Buck's shoulder and is like, "Dude, that is not the craziest thing Kinard's ever done. That's not the craziest thing he's done this year."
They tell him about his legendary but batshit NATOPS check maneuvers and how no one's ever been able to figure out how he can do a barrel roll in low altitude in a transport bird.
They tell him about the time he and Donato were called to a high-rise gas explosion, and they casevac'd an unconscious, pregnant woman who ended up going into labor. Tommy got back there and, with the power of WikiHow on his side, delivered a healthy baby girl halfway to LA General.
They tell him about the time he sustained a concussion while landing a malfunctioning helicopter in the baseball field of a middle school, and yet somehow found the strength to host an impromptu AMA to three hundred kids about what being a pilot's like while he munched on tater tots and waited for a rescue.
They tell him about the time he was flying with a probie at night in an area with uncharted power lines that got tangled in the rotor, and how he slung the probie under his arm like a tote bag and dove out of the helicopter right before it exploded.
They tell him about the time Tommy and Nico were called to a cliffside mansion where some foreign dignitary's daughter was being held hostage. Tommy ended up HRSTing out of the helicopter and onto the scene, and then proceeded to beat the hell out of the guy, get himself stabbed, and give the SWAT team so much shit when they arrived that the 217 has an honorary table every year at the Backdraft Ball.
When Tommy finally shows up and disembarks, Dana's halfway through a story about the time they were all called to Shasta County to help with the Carr Fire in 2018, and as soon as Buck sees him over Dana's shoulder, he shouts, "You flew into a fire tornado?!"
Tommy's expression goes a little hunted and he holds up his hands placatingly, like, "In my defense, I tried to find another way around it—"
And Dana's like, "The fuck you did. You looked me dead in the eye and said, 'You know what would be funny?' And then you banked right into the whirl."
"It's not like you tried to stop me," Tommy says accusingly, ignoring the way the side of his head is starting to smoke from the intensity of Buck's stare.
"Well, no, you were right: it was funny," Dana says with a shrug.
That night, Buck rides Tommy slow and vicious and makes him recount every detail of the fire whirl flight before he'll let Tommy come, and the entire time he grips Tommy's head and forces him to hold Buck's gaze and thinks, I can't believe I ever thought you were normal. You're insane, you're out of your mind, you're perfect, you're perfect, you're perfect for me.
In the afterglow, practically humming with satisfaction, Buck bites playfully at Tommy's chest and says, "So this is what Lucy meant when she texted me that you and I match each other's crazy. Hell, after everything you've done, I think the only thing left to check off your list is, like, aliens."
And Tommy's entire body freezes and he falls very silent very suddenly. Buck lifts his head to stare at him, like, "You've gotta be kidding me."
"Evan, for legal reasons, I need you to change the subject."
Here's something new for you, because I couldn't think of how they might have a shy kiss for anything I'm currently writing because they're always so down bad for each other. Instead, here is alternate first meeting - Sal and Tommy go on vacation to Peru and meet bartender Buck. It ended up being over 800 words.
For the kiss prompts
Less than twenty-four hours after accidentally grinding up on a guy on the dancefloor and having his eyes opened to his bisexuality while exchanging filthy kisses and even filthier handjobs in the bathroom of the club after his shift, Evan is starting to look back at a lot of past interactions and see them in a new light.
He's starting to see current interactions in a new light as well.
The man in front of him looks a little too morose to be drinking at a bar in Peru, but he's got a sharp jaw, and blue eyes, and apparently Evan has a type, because he's mixing up a pina colada and setting it down in front of the man without being asked.
"I didn't order this," the guy comments, picking up the straw to swirl it around the drink.
"I know," Evan replies with a shy grin. "You looked like you could use it, though. On the house."
It's not technically a come up, but the guy looks up at him with keen interest, then his eyes dart down to his chest, ostensibly to look at his nametag, but they linger a little longer than strictly necessary at he open neck of his Hawaiian shirt.
"Thanks, Evan." The way the man draws out his name sends shivers up his spine. His eyes flick up to meet Evan's and he looks a little less sad now. "My name's Sal."
"You here alone, Sal?" Evan asks, testing the name out. It suits the man.
Shaking his head, Sal takes a sip of the drink and hums in appreciation. "I'm with my buddy. Just finalized a divorce and got transferred at work. He just ended his engagement. Figured we needed to cut loose."
The way Sal talks about his "buddy" it doesn't sound like they're involved, but there's definitely something there. Evan doesn't want to play his hand, so he asks. "Is he going to be joining you?"
Sal shakes his head again. "I had a bit too much to sun yesterday, and I crashed out hard last night. He was gone before I woke up this morning. He's probably out at the beach or checking out the sights, and I just want to stay in the shade. We'll probably meet up for dinner, but until then I'm flying solo."
"My lucky day, then," Evan tells him with a wink. It usually works on the women, but Sal just laughs. Evan can't tell if his flirty is working, or if Sal is just humouring him, but he doesn't get up from the barstool, so Evan figures he still has a shot.
He gets pulled away by a new batch of patrons looking for pizza and cocktails. Evan gets the order to Emilio who's working the little pizza oven, and mixes their rum punch. His eyes keep flicking to Sal as he works, and it sends a thrill up his spine that Sal's eyes are on him the whole time.
Sal sits at the bar for the afternoon, and Evan learns he's a firefighter with the LAFD, was originally from Boston, and hasn't been out of California in the last ten years. In turn, Evan tells him about his travels, and how he ended up in Peru of all places.
Evan's shift is over, but Buck doesn't want the conversation to end. Sal seems so cool, and Evan really wants to know if he kisses as confidently as he does everything else. He just doesn't know how to ask.
He ends up offering to walk Sal back to his room, earning him a raised eyebrow from Leona, who's taking over for him at the bar. Fraternizing with the patrons is frowned upon, but everyone does it.
Evan leads the way to where Sal is staying, familiar with the accommodations. Their shoulders bump, and their hands brush together as they walk. It has to mean something, but Evan doesn't know what to do with it.
"This is me," Sal comments, when they arrive at the villa he's staying in.
Rocking back on his heels, Evan lets his eyes flick down to Sal's mouth and back up. Sal tracks the gesture, licks his lips, but doesn't say anything.
Impulsivity wins over nerves, and Evan finally blurts, "Can I kiss you?"
Sal jerks his head in a nod, and tilts his head up just a little to catch Evan's lips with his. It's tentative, and gentle, almost shy - a far cry from the way the stranger at the bar had all but devoured him - but the feel of Sal's stubble against his face and the warm pass of his tongue against Evan's is just as hot.
Eyes fluttering closed, Evan's hand comes up to Sal's shoulder, ready to lose himself in the kiss, when the door behind Sal opens, and another man steps out.
"Sal, there you..." The man trails off, and Sal breaks the kiss reluctantly, cheeks flush.
"Tommy!" Sal blurts, suddenly sounding nervous. "I didn't think you'd be back at the room."
The man, Tommy, doesn't respond, eyes going wide as he takes Evan in.
Evan is similarly mute.
Tommy's the nameless guy responsible for his bi revalation.

lain I'm thinking of bucktommy camping where they both went to the wilderness to escape real life and they both were like "ugh 🙄" when they're the only 2 people on one island (strangers? post breakup? both work in different ways imo) and they avoid each other pretty well, considering. until one night buck is jerking off and thinking he so sly and slick and silent and yeah he's absolutely thinking of some big burly..... someone coming into his tent and just taking advantage 🙂↕️ and finally tommy is like "oh my god!!! do you need a hand there, kid?" and it's quiet enough that tommy is sure buck has stopped and went to sleep until a wavering voice calls out in the night "what do you mean, need a hand?" and tommy stumbles over roots the whole way over to buck's tent
Kathy......Kathy Kathy Kathy the joy I felt upon looking at this ask. And it only increased with every word I read !!!
This is. Sooooo so great strangers and post breakup both have their merits but I am in a strangers mood. I think Buck drops his carefully selected firewood in a puddle when he catches Tommy bending over to pound in a tent peg. I think Tommy teases Buck about his set up being too elaborate to be considered "real" camping and then moans when he tastes the cake Buck is able to make using his cast iron cauldron.
And then you know when Tommy does lend a hand it's sweet and gentle and he's being soooo so nice and yeah a little mean but in a nice way and then after Buck sighs and Tommy is like what ?(worried) and Buck is like. Can....can you pretend that I don't know you're here next time?? And Tommy's brain spends at least a full minute rebooting and then Buck is furiously apologizing and Tommy finally squeaks out a "yes" and then they next night :)))))) well :))))) it's a good thing they are the only two on the island that's all ill say.
