You know what I'm not telling anyone? I'm scared. I'm fucking scared. I dread waking up every day because of all these new age verification laws all around the world. Every day, I wake up and check my phone, hands shaking, to see how far all these bills have been getting and which corporation or, god forbid, country surrendered next. Because lord knows, I know we're all being optimistic, but how long until the next piece of bad news comes? How long until we're not enough to stop it? I genuinely have started to dread living because of this. Sure, it's "just" the internet, but not enough people are realizing how awful it'd be if it passes--if it passes, some corporations are already considering locking up entire DEVICES upon setup unless you hand over your ID. Pretty much everything online will be locked behind an ID. Privacy issues aside, statistically, this WILL be affecting more adults than children. And somehow, governments and corporations are expecting you to hand out your face, ID, or credit card info like candy. It makes me utterly terrified for the future. What's next? Will I have to show ID to walk into the goddamn grocery store? To watch shows, play video games, or, hell, read BOOKS rated above PG-13? Does everything I do have to be tied to my legal identity? Will I have to watch my every move just so the government doesn't arrest me over something I said online, searched up, watched, read, or played?
"You're catastrophizing". Yes, I know. But with the way things have been lately, catastrophe doesn't seem that impossible.
