Detachment is the death of connection. It's okay to worry about being cringey or getting rejected however don't let it control you. If you get rejected then that person wasn't meant for you and that's okay. If you don't want to be ridiculed by people just because you are being open then detach from them because those are not safe people to be around at all. If you don't want to detach from them because you don't want to be lonely do it anyway because it's worse to have bad company than no company. If someone thinks you're desperate another person will appreciate you for being yourself. This doesn't just apply in romantic relationships but all kinds of relationships.
