there's been a huge trend if shaming people for using the emergency room without "needing" it (mostly on tiktok but I'm not on there anymore so posting here) and like I feel like we've overcorrected. like yes we don't support karens chewing out nurses because the person having a stroke got in faster than their 5yo with a 99.9F fever, but like. I've seen people get scolded for going in for a rabies shot*. bro, rabies exposure IS an emergency. not as time sensitive as say anaphylactic shock, but still an emergency. I've seen people get scolded (by non medical professionals) for going in with a broken bone. again, not so time sensitive but you need to get that shit immobilized. I've seen chronically ill people get scolded for going in when they "only" needed iv fluids. my brother in christ where else are they supposed to get that?
the er isn't just for confirmed emergencies. they are to rule out emergencies, stabilize you, then pass you on to the appropriate next step, whether that's discharge with a prescription, admission to the hospital, or a referral to a specialist. of even just like. releasing you now fully hydrated. I've had that before.
*btw PSA, if you are ever in close contact with a bat you gotta go in for a rabies shot even if you didn't feel it bite you. bat bites are tiny and easy to miss, and there is only one person in all of recorded history EVER to survive rabies, once you start showing symptoms you're toast, so just don't fuck around when it comes to rabies. DO NOT wait for symptoms bc once they show up there's nothing they can do for you except comfort care.

Some stores have mozzarella in a tube shape and it's firmer. You can slice pieces and put them on pizza and they keep the shape better.
