Itβs that time of year again so here is your yearly reminder that the world isnβt ending and people donβt hate you. The sun is just setting at 6 pm.
Please take your vitamin D

if the backrooms can only remember people based on how they are seen by others, then captain clark is so uncanny because people around the real clark view him in a negative light. but the real clark doesnβt see himself that way, so when he looks at captain clark, he doesnβt see anything monstrous, he just sees clark. itβs why he tells captain clark βwe donβt have to changeβ. he views his views his still life as an extension of himself, and he wants so badly to believe that he is fine the way he is. if captain clark has to change, then so does he. but change is so uh a heavy weight to bear, even if you know itβs necessary. itβs easier to look within, see a twisted soul, and call it beautiful
Canβt really articulate it properly but. Something about Clark and the need for ownership being a repeated theme throughout the movie. Something about how he constantly emphasizing that it was his house, his store, his money that pays for everything. Or the way he refers to the copies as βfurnitureβ and treats them as such despite the fact they do show some sentience. The way he treated Mary as a means to justify his not wanting to leave and his refusal to change. The fact that Clark eats from the copies and the Captain eats people.
The Captainβs βdenβ being filled with piles of clothes and pieces of the cardboard cutout it destroyed. The piles of furniture in the middle of rooms. Something about the Captainβs hostility at people that enter Backrooms possibly from seeing them as an invasion upon his space, his house, threatening change in a place he does not want it. Trying to gain control over your life by trying to own and control everything around you. Is this anything

I really did like the ending of the Backrooms 2026, actually. The twist that the Backrooms is a space that you can physically exit but a part of you mentally will always be trapped in is a great subversion and really effectively inverts the concept. The main scientist character looks directly into the camera and reveals he is still caught in the same nostalgia trap that Clark was, stuck in a repetitive motion and going nowhere. Mary got out but she's still in there. You can leave but you can never escape
i really love the motif of windows in Backrooms. maryβs book being called βthe window withinβ. the curtains in her office always being drawn. the shot of her behind glass in her own home during the gathering at her house. clark looking through the window into his own house. him being unable to see kat through the glass she can see him through. the window in maryβs motherβs house. the windows in the hospital her mother is brought to that only look out to another building. the drawing that mary finds of captain clark reaching someone up towards a window. the fale window in clarkβs βhomeβ in the backrooms that just looks out to more of the same empty space. the window in the interrogation room thatβs too high to see out of (and thus to determine if itβs real). the fact that the backrooms lacks any windows to a true βoutside spaceβ, and how terrifying that makes it. there is no window within. or, at least, not one that any of them can find
but all the stairwells lead straight to hell
MEMORY FOAM THE STILL LIFES WERE MADE OF MEMORY FOAM THE BACKROOMS REMEMBERS

the thing so many people don't understand is that the reason wikipedia is generally not accepted as a source has nothing to do with accuracy. wikipedia is (generally) extremely accurate! the reason wikipedia isn't allowed as a source for school is because it's a summary of other sources. wikipedia has correct information, but it gets that information from OTHER places, which are either primary or secondary sources, which lends them credibility that wikipedia technically lacks.
so yes, wikipedia is a GREAT resource to learn new things! but if you want in depth, specific, and creditable sources, don't use wikipedia! use wikipedia's cited sources!!

What if silence is in fact a sound, but because its a universal sound we just adapted to it and dont notice it anymore
I actually just wrote a paper on this!!
The short of it is, yes, that's exactly what happens. There's no such thing as pure silence outside of a vacuum (and inside a vacuum you'd be dead). So basically your ears are constantly adapting to the noise threshold of your surroundings and slowly ignoring it. If you were in a perfectly silent room (anechoic chambers are cool!) you would actually start to hear the sound of existing!
Isn't there some room full of sound baffling foam or something that absorbs all ambient noise and most people go mad from the isolation because they start to hear things like their own circulatory system and their heartbeat pounding in their ears?
Ah, there it is. Orfield Labratories in Minnesota. They say the longest anyone's been able to stay inside was 45 minutes, as they could hear their lungs expanding and their digestive system working overtime.
Reblog if you sometimes hear your own blood circulation despite not being in the room
