ive been reading somewhat trashy romance webnovels the past few days because i find them fascinating and one thing ive noticed is all of these stories have these people going in and out of the hospital every other day. i have to assume this is part of the american authors flaunting the wealth of their characters.

update my other favourite thing about reading these is that since the authors are more concerned with getting to the next dramatic plot point as soon as possible, they dont really worry about how characters find out anything. several side characters exist solely for the main characters to call them and demand they investigate x thing and then a paragraph later they call back to deliver the plot relevant information.

"but I didnt learn about the usa's wrongs in school 😢 we don't know anything cause they didn't teach us anything 😢" well no one in my school in india told me that our country is a regionally hegemonic war criminal you're just entitled and insultingly uncurious

in fact they told us completely propagandised nonsense about how pre colonial hindu kingdoms were extremely peaceful but were forced to defend themselves against regular invasions solely by muslims. this is something v easily contradicted by the foundational story of ashoka's turn to buddhist dhamma being the brutality of the kalinga war.

the point being made is school, everywhere in the world is a deeply political project and is marshalled for the purpose of nation building. you're not going to hear about the sins of your nation in any serious way at school most anywhere in the world, and expecting that it should have betrays a certain lack of uhh, street smarts. its for children and run by the govt.

anyone who says toddlers are incapable of emotional regulation/introspection are full of shit because i just watched this kid go from full-blown tantrum to verbal expression of frustration ("i don't want to play with her!") to analysis of root cause of frustration ("i really enjoy playing with her, i'm just so sad the playdate is ending soon") in like 3 minutes flat. with zero adult intervention beyond active listening. where is my mother i need her to take notes

i wish people would stop romanticizing not eating breakfast and not getting enough sleep and being dependent on coffee to function and always being in a bad mood and treating yourself poorly because that behavior is very unhealthy for you

huge fan of when characters love each other and are closely bonded in an explicitly nonromantic way. however ☝️ i am very much not a huge fan of what happens when characters like this are introduced to fandom
