Me now that the last one is being released:

      When I read Something Old Something New, I was surprised that Marissa Meyer would have Cinder and Kai get engaged at so young. Even Scarlet’s marriage at 20 seem awfully young to current standards. For a while I thought it was simply to tie up lose ends but considered it unnecessary, while fans will always interpret and headcanon things differently or change things all together the ending of Winter made it clear that that our couples where confirmed together. Also, Marissa Meyer could have made them any age in the story so why did she go with so young it seemed like an odd choice, more so if you take into consideration the process of dissolving a monarchy and changing a form of government of a nation it would’ve made more since for Cinder to be older when the transition happened so why did she go with such a young age?

 Now I’ve talked about this before in regard to Cress and Thornes age difference, but I would like to go into more detail with it here.

  There are several instance in the series where women are expected to get married young. The first is with Pearl in the first book. She’s only 17 but her mother hopes for her to meet men with the goal of her finding a husband. We also have the gossip of Kai looking for a wife at 18, this could just be played off for rumors but why, again in todays time any article going on about a celebrity getting engaged at 18 would be considered untrue and ridiculous, if no one believes the article it won’t get shared. We also have Winter who has been offered marriage proposals at only 17. Lastly, we have the age difference between Thonre and Cress, while four years isn’t something most people will think of as a big deal Cress being 16 is. Yet its not brought up at all in the series. Thorne could have easily stated Cress was to young for him and that’s why it was better for her to find someone else. We also have the fact that most people in the crew including a public figure were aware of Thorne’s attraction for her and did not once give ‘Dude she sixteen’ talk.

 So why? The plague.

  At the beginning of the series the plague had been afflicting earth for a little over ten years, maybe longer in other areas. Its mortality rate is 100%, all ages can be affected and we can conclude the average life span is short I would say between 45 to 55.

   While we read about how hard the plague had been on earth citizens, we see very little of its effect as a whole on society but something like this would completely change how society works. And one thing that will change almost immediately is birth rates. With a declining population and the risk that your children won’t make it to adult hood the need for more children will increases.

   During the first wave of plague the number of kids that would be affected would probably be the highest followed by the elderly. This will leave a hole in the economics of earth. With out the next generation to join into the work force it would create a crisis.

   On the emotional side parents will want to build a family again and try to have more kids. But then we get into the next problem, the parents of children will most likely die before the child is grown. Although I can’t find much of any text about the rate of orphaned children, with the plague being as bad as it is we can have an educated guess that it is higher then what had previously been the norm. Every country is different with how children of the state are taken care of but considering the social and economic crisis that earth is already under I can’t imagine that it’s the best. I could possible see that new laws are in place where the age of a child becomes an adult isn’t 18 but 16.

   That’s right in this word you’re considered an adult by 16 you can work and marry and are expected too. This isn’t really to hard to considered even in todays times. Other countries have different laws about what age is and isn’t an adult and in times of crisis it often changes.

  This leads me to my last point getting married so young. At 16 you’re an adult, the chances of you dying before 50 is high the need and want for a family probably much stronger then in generations before and the pressures of a society that needs people to keep its structure from collapsing, in this world it isn’t unusual.

  Scarlet married by 20 might even be consider as old. Kai finally getting engaged to the relief of his people and Cress dating a man four years older then her at 16 nothing to blink an eye at. In the world they live in this is the norm because that’s what the plague did, society had to change its social ideas and the people conformed to them.

  Sadly, while the change from the plague probably happened quickly the reverse will be slow people will probably still get married young and have a lot of kids. I suspect a large baby boom in the future of the TLC universe as well as an increase of divorcees another 10 to 15 years down the road.

• their first child is a girl • Her name is Autumn Hayle Clay. Originally, Winter had a very hard time on whether or not she wanted to name her after her mom, Solstice, or keep the tradition going with the seasons and naming her Autumn. • Of course, Jacin left the name choosing to Winter and supported her with whatever name she decided to chose. He personally liked Autumn too as a way to keep the season names going.

• Winter’s first trimester was kind of hard on her, considering she threw up 24/7 and was feeling pretty ill. Poor jacin woke up only a few weeks after she found out she was pregnant only to be greeted by a barfing Winter refusing to go to the doctor, wanting to keep the pregnancy a secret for a while longer. • But he eventually caught on and asked without her telling him at all, to Winter’s dismay. • Winter being in labor was also pretty tough on her, and Jacin was literally seething in anxiety as much as she was seething in pain. Luckily, Autumn comes out as a very healthy baby.

• Before her first birthday, she develops her mothers looks but some of her father’s characteristics; a thick pile of curly dark brown hair for an eight month year old along with hazel eyes and light brown skin. On the flip side, she’s very observant and more quieter than the other rampion crew children but will still blabber at times. Mainly with her parents. Especially when they play imaginary games with her.

• Before Autumn was ever thought of, Jacin would sometimes watch Winter do her hair (whether she’d prepare it for the day or for the night) and one day found the courage to offer doing it for her. Although Winter was a little reluctant about it, she let him do it anyway and he turned out to be a pretty good hair braider! From this experience and with the hair texture difference between Winter and Autumn, Jacin can easily do Autumn’s hair – whether he’s simply putting it in a small bun, high ponytail, or a braid. • Like her mother, Autumn grows up wearing her natural hair. Her loose curly hair turns out to be just below shoulder length and extremely thick. This, of course, is due to the fact that Winter made sure she would never use flat irons or anything that would give heat damage to Autumn’s hair and ultimately ruin her curl pattern.

• Although both Jacin and Winter try to keep Autumn out of the public eye, they can’t do it for long since Winter has to be a public person. Sometimes, all three of them can be seen on the streets of whatever earthen country their in for ambassador reasons, and paparazzi/photographers will make sure to take several pictures of their stunning baby girl, Autumn. • Did I mention she’s really good in professional places? Jacin and Winter made sure of not wanting to have kids until they could settle to the ambassador life. Although it wasn’t too idealistic for their firstborn to sit around with them during ambassador meetings, they also didn’t want to postpone having a child until their thirties. Autumn is very good at sitting on her father’s lap quietly and obediently when her mom and other leaders from around the world are discussing ambassadorial things.

So, so, so….I was looking at some wires and nerve sreencaps, and lookie what I spotted on Ambassador Hayle’s left hand….

Now, I am aware that Winter probably has lots of lovely jewelry and rings, and the drawing is a little vague, but…..

-her mother died two days after she was born and on the same day her maternal grandmother also died. teddy was so sad that he left his newborn daughter with his sister anna for two years and could never bring himself to say his wife’s name so alice who was named after her mother had to be called “lee”, her middle name.

-when teddy remarried, alice’s stepmom edith made it clear that she thought alice’s mom had been beautiful but dumb. when alice’s parents couldn’t handle her anymore, they sent her to her aunt anna’s. according to alice, “If auntie Bye had been a man, she would have been president”. alice claimed to feel one-sixth as loved as her five half-siblings.

-then alice got polio which at the time could kill, not to mention cripple. her stepmom put her through an uncompromising regimen of nightly forced wearing of torturous leg braces and shoes, which left alice with no trace of the disability and able to run up stairs and touch her nose with her toe well into her 80s.

-alice’s dad and stepmom tried to send her to a conservative girls’ school but alice wrote home, “If you send me I will humiliate you. I will do something that will shame you. I tell you I will”.

-when teddy became president in 1901, alice became an instant celebrity and fashion icon at age 17. she did scandalous things like smoking cigarettes in public, riding in cars with men, staying out late partying, keeping a pet snake (called emily spinach) in the white house, and placing bets with a bookie. 

-she even had a color - alice blue - and a song - alice blue gown - named after her. the press called her princess alice.

-during an imperial cruise to japan, alice jumped into a pool fully dressed and coaxed a congressman in to join her.

-one time a white house visitor commented on alice’s frequent interruptions in the oval office, usually with political advice. after the third interruption, teddy explained, “I can either run the country or I can attend to Alice, but I cannot possibly do both”.

-in february 1906, alice married congressman nicholas longworth and was the social event of the season. it was attended by more than a thousand guests and thousands gathered outside hoping for a glance of princess alice. she wore a blue wedding dress and cut the wedding cake with a sword.

-alice publicly supported her dad’s 1912 presidential candidate while her husband supported president taft. alice appeared on stage in her husband’s own district with her dad’s vp candidate. longworth lost by 105 votes and alice joked that she was worth at least 100 votes (meaning she was the reason he lost).

-alice’s campaign against her husband caused a friction in their marriage and longworth was known to be carrying on many affairs. it was also generally accepted knowledge in dc that alice had a long, ongoing affair with senator william borah, who by alice’s own admission was the father of her daughter, paulina. alice had a wicked sense of humor and had initially wanted to name her daughter deborah (as in de Borah).

-after the death of her daughter paulina in 1957, alice fought for and won custody of her granddaughter joanna. 

-in the 1950s, alice’s health began to fail her and she broke a hip. she also discovered she was suffering from breast cancer and had to have two mastectomies. in 1960, alice was diagnosed with emphysema. 

-alice was also a champion of rights for african-americans. one day, in 1965, alice’s african-american chauffeur and good friend, turner, was driving her to an appointment. turner pulled out in front of a taxi and the driver yelled at him, “What do you think you’re doing, you black bastard?” turner stayed calm but alice told the taxi driver, “He’s taking me to my destination, you white son of a bitch!”

-after many years of ill health, alice died of emphysema and pneumonia at age 96, outliving all five of her younger half-siblings.

-her most famous quote was, “If you haven’t got anything good to say about anybody, come sit next to me”. 

-when senator joseph mccarthy joked at a party, “Here’s my blind date. I am going to call you Alice”, she replied, “Senator McCarthy, you are not going to call me Alice. The trashman and the policeman on my block call me Alice, but you may not”. 

-she told president lyndon b. johnson that she wore wide-brimmed hats so he couldn’t kiss her.

-when a kkk member dressed in full costume asked her to trust his word, she said, “I never trust a man under sheets”.

so in summary, alice roosevelt longworth was badass.
