when the relatable fictional character commits suicide
you're one of the only people ive seen on tumblr highlighting travis scott as the bard in nolan's odyssey - which is unsurprising because he's a rapper and its tumblr, but i still wish more people would sit up and take notice of that performance. hes such a commanding presence and one of my favorite parts of the movie.
it's funny bc my friend looked up the cast beforehand and made me explain who each character was and then was like "now what tf is travis scott doing there???" and i didn't have an answer for her. until the film opened, and we were both like oh! it was then that i knew i was in danger. because of course! of course he was the bard. he brought the oral tradition alive in a way i wasn't expecting and was transfixed by. i cheered when he came back as odysseus entered the hall
poetry is actually the most important thing in the whole world

i can’t wait to be saved miraculously and get out of all of my predicaments
the most nolan thing that was not in the movie would have to be a shot in the last troy scene where odysseus sees a man carrying someone on his back, turns to a trojan soldier standing nearby and hears him whisper "godspeed" (dramatic pause + swelling score) "aeneas"
