i like dogs a lot but i can never remember the differences between breeds (apart from the few types i've actually owned/interacted with). but i know people looove their dogs and love talking about their dogs, so whenever im talking to a dog owner i'll ask what breed it is, and no matter what breed they say i'll say "oh! i've heard they have a really nice nature :D" and they always go YESSS THEY'RE GREAT and start gushing about their dog and we have a nice conversation and i build social credit with this person. anyway i told my friends about this script a few weeks ago when slightly drunk and now every time we're in public together and a dog goes past they turn to me and ask "does that one have a nice nature?" im in a hell of my own making

I kept forgetting my nighttime antidepressant so I set an alarm where the sound was a recording of me saying "HEY. TAKE YOUR FUCKING PILL" because I thought it would be funny. It was funny about three times, and then it started making me mad and I'd dismiss it right away to make it stop. So I handed my phone to my partner, who made another recording sweetly saying "Okay Shira, it's time to take your medication" and now I don't get mad anymore and I take my pill. The "compassion over punishment" camp has gotta get something wrong one of these days

Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.

He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.

yAY ITS MY AREA OF EXPERTISE (well really just mild obsession :P )

if your unsatisfied with the performance of your dishwasher: do these 4 things (in addition to running your hot water tap before the dishwasher if you are in north america)

read the manual for your dishwasher. seriously. like yes its boring but also its like 4 pages long and it will tell you everything you need for the tips below. it will also tell you the optimum arrangement for your plates so they all get hit by the water jets (and dont block them from spinning), and if your dishwasher has any options that allow you to activate extra sprayers / sanitise function/ etc.

most important thing: dishwashers have a detergent dispenser for a reason. this implies that it does *something* before it wants to release the detergent. that *something* is a prewash cycle to get most of the crud off your dishes, before the main wash, where the detergent is dispensed. the easiest way to help your dishwasher is by giving it detergent, so it can lift more crud off your dishes. so if you are using powdered detergent, toss a third of a does just into the main wash basin as well as the detergent you put into the dispenser. this isa bit harder to do if you are using tabbed detergent (which also comes with the disadvantage of not being able to adjust detergent dosage for water hardness, as afaik the harder the water the more detergent you need) but you can score and snap to your hearts content there.

check the water hardness in your area! your dishwasher should have a built in water softener that uses dishwasher salt to regenerate, and using the manual and either test strips or a bit of google-fu you can adjust the water hardness setting on your dishwasher so that it regenerates the ion exchange resin to the appropriate amount. this will help your detergent. also check the salt container even if it doesnt say that its low on salt, because sometimes the salt can form a bridge at the top of the container and the float thinks its sitll full, but actually its just a cave underneath of brine.

also using the water hardness for your area you just discovered, adjust the rinse aid setting! this will ensure there is no film on your dishes and also helps the dishes dry better and more evenly.
