a thing about heated rivarly and fandom i keep circling back to in my head is how in a lot of fics stuff happens that makes them reveal their feelings to the world involuntarily – "shanes injury is a bit worse and ilya freaks out", "shane is even more out of it in the hospital and gives them away" ect. and dont get me wrong, i enjoy reading them a lot! but i keep thinking. no. nope. that was the point. that was the point of these scenes. the injury DID look very very bad and ilya had to keep composure anyway. shane WAS very high, and still pulled himself to act more "appropriate" when the nurse came in. the caution is so ingrained in them it overrides panic, overrides drugs, overrides the love they have for each other. thats the point. thats the price they are paying for "safety". thats the tragedy right there on the page
