America has a weird relationship with cults where they’re terrified of small cults (or organizations they think are cults) but completely normalized massive cults that hurt many more people (eg: LDS Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Amish, Scientology, most Megachurches)

To anybody asking if the Amish are a cult, the answer is yes, very much so.

They’re a high control group that isolate you from society. The cult decides how you dress, how you behave, who you marry and how. They control what you know, blocking all information from the outside world. They control how you feel and what you’re allowed to think with threats of both social and supernatural harm. They’re a cult.

The best method to determine if a group is a cult, in my opinion, is Steven Hassan’s (cult expert and former cult member himself) BITE model.

BITE stands for Behavior Control, Information Control, Thought Control, and Emotional Control.

The more points a group “scores” on the model, the more of a cult it is.

I think this model is the best one for several reasons:

It’s more nuanced than “cult” or “not cult” and doesn’t make false equivalences between groups

It’s versatile, applying to groups big and small, and cults of all kinds, religious, political, financial, etc.

It focuses on what’s important, which is what the cult does to its members, and those members’ experiences, and not on irrelevant details like how uncommon their doctrines are or whether they have a charismatic leader

This is a great example of Thought Control used by cults whenever they’re confronted with criticism.

everyone has fat on their bodies so its a worthwhile skill to have, but most art tutorials leave it out. heres some other good tips from artists!!

ALRIGHT SO my pal @kalreyno wanted help with drawing fat characters and as a fat artist i felt like i could give a bit of helpful insight on

some notes on drawing fat bodies in a stylized or cartoony art style! i tried to explain and illustrate things i keep in mind while drawing

something i notice a lot with artists trying to draw fat people is that even if they get the bodies decent they often draw the heads and nec

Also, please don't forget to draw fat necks. When I search for fat art, oftentimes the lack of a fat neck makes a character not look fat anymore because the artist basically just drew a skinny person from the shoulders up.

A resource I suggest is fatphotoref. You can also look at fat positive blogs for tons of photos and drawings that can help you learn how fat bodies look in different poses. Tags you can search on this blog include fat art, fatshion, fat athletes, and fat masc. Those tags are probably the best if you're wanting to use fatphobiabusters for pictures to help you learn how to draw fat people. Another tip I have heard a fat artist mention before is if you are fat yourself, use yourself as a reference photo. I hope this helps!

Van showed this to my class last year and then said “this drawing isn’t anywhere online :)” so I wasn’t sure if he wanted us to talk about it outside of class. so I’ve just been haunted by this secret scooby doo character, fully remembering this post in the back of my head, and I couldn’t say anything. I promise you it’s not a hoax. If you notice the guy who posted it is Van Partible, aka the guy who made Johnny Bravo. It’s only on that one instagram post because he has the physical drawing and this is the first time he shared it online. Allegedly. The reason he has the drawing is because, if I recall, while they were making the Scooby Doo/Johnny Bravo crossover special, they were going through original art from the archives, asked to keep that one, and they just let him have it. He’s sort of infamous within the industry for being an unofficial archivist for Hanna-Barbera.

Speaking as someone who’s held the original cels of the first time Johnny did the monkey cause he brought them to class, I can attest that this is not a hoax 👍
