i dont think inbreeding will "reward" players by giving them muties because its not necessary at all? like, inbreeding will just inform you what wolves carry a mutation. it doesn't make new mutations as far as i'm aware. and if anything it'll just make non inbred mutated wolves more valuable.

There are probably more links than this one (that I might go back in and add later) but as of right now, if youāre breeding for mutations, inbreeding would probably be the fastest way to unlock them/discover them, because theyāre all very low random chance. As things get released I doubt NIB wolves will ever be more valuable. I think the wolves with inbreeding and mutations discovered through inbreeding in their lines will end up being more valuable.

Edit to Add: There was also a mention of double mutations being a thing in Wolvden, and they werenāt in Lioden. In order for both mutations to be applied to a pup Iād imagine the pair would have to be more in-bred to guarantee a bigger chance of a mutation appearing in a litter. I can see double-muties being more valuable in the long run.
i dont mean this in a hostile way, im genuinely curious, but why do you care if people are having and selling pups?
There's a long and a short answer.
The short answer is, I really don't because they're going to be the ones not prepared for Winter when it comes because they're still in the Lioden mindset.
The long answer is because it's slowly ruining the wolf market.
When I say "mass breeders" I mean people who's primary focus of this game is breeding more than half their females every heat (or those insane people breeding NBW's and immediately selling the NBW and pups for insanely low prices), selling their pups/auctioning them all off, and when they get a slightly better mark, charging inflated prices for it. Having a large number of pups in circulation of the market (whether through trades or in the forums) causes the market value of more plain potato pups to go down and spikes the market value of marks that easily pass but aren't available in the base wolf builder (ie Merle and Inuit). When those prices spike, that doesn't necessarily mean they're worth that much, it just means that's what people are paying for those marks. Then someone eventually gets a double Merle or double Inuit marked pup. The single marked pups' markets crash by about 50% because the market value for double marks just spiked. Rinse and repeat until you get to where we are, penta/quad marked Merle pups. That means that single, double, and triple marked Merle pups are pretty much obsolete, with the next amount up being slightly better. So super plain pups are worth nothing even if they also have combo/new marks that aren't as striking as Merle.
So it's like in Lioden how there were all of those marks that literally needed project breeders to spread because they were on the verge of disappearing from the game, but even though they were pretty/striking/fit well onto designs they weren't Rosettes so nobody wanted them. That's why cubs and NCL's were so cheap. The larger the disparity between community dubbed "valuable" and "dispensible" marks shows how bad or good a market is. And as of right now I know of multiple people who've bought/sold quad marked Merle pups for more than 120gc. That shows you how broken the market is. I know the market is new, and people are trying to figure out what things cost, but just willy nilly pricing things for as much as you can squeeze out of other members isn't the way to go about it. If people don't slow their roll, the market isn't going to recover before PA and then it never will. We'll be stuck in another broken market that doesn't allow people to breed for whatever they want and still earn money.
Do you see what I'm saying? I'm upset because the game isn't even 2 weeks old and having a cool mark like Merle isn't really worth anything anymore because there are people speed-running the breeding process and producing more pups than they have the resources to care for, causing a HUGE inflation of prices for slightly better pups that are going to crash as soon as the next cool mark comes out. But the Merle marking market won't ever recover.

So re: my last ask, how do you guys want me to calculate the averages? It's hard to keep track of the actual GC:SC trades that move because they go so fast. But I would love some input.

Maybe you could do it by the number of pages when you set different max buyouts? At least that's how I shop. For example, you put in 100 sc as your max buyout and see that there's 10 pgs of results. Then you look at 90 sc and see there's 7 pgs, and so on. I would also be interested in the conversion rate change when buying multiple gc vs single gc, but I'm sure that's even more chaotic than single gc.

As for the merle market or base/mark breeding in general I believe people are going to get smacked in the face pretty hard when that really valuable marked/base wolf pup dies suddenly and they've basically wasted all their time and money breeding it...
Honestly get your pack stronger before thinking to mass breed. Also you may want to have enough food and toy reserves to support your mothers and pupsitters and pups when they age out in all seasons.
Also in winter you're going to have the worst time if you're too busy breeding and not busy enough getting stats and building your hunters.
I honestly donāt think mass breeding is the way to go in Wolvden at all. I think there might be a few successful people, but I would highly encourage people to consider smaller breeding operations to save the market and save their own wallets.

i've seen alot of people say merle is WD's rosettes and i didnt agree because rosettes are actually hard to pass + they just show up for no reason but just today i saw it be compared to vitiligo and like... yeah.. that sounds about right
100% this. Plus merle isnāt going to hold value if people are mass-breeding instead of focusing on building their pride up first.

Iāll be honest Iām starting to worry for the ppl who are focusing on breeding over building up their pack. It really sounds like building a stable pack is going to be necessary moving forward, and Iām worried ppl are going to have their packs crash once the newbie immunity ends.
Also, territory space is so hard to get right now itās almost not smart to fill up with pups that you wonāt have space or, or you might not be able to sell off because other ppl donāt have space for them either!
I just hope things go well for everyone tho, because so far Iām really enjoying the game and Iād hate to see ppl get discouraged and leave because of setbacks they didnāt foresee...

What steps should we take to prepare for winter?
First off donāt be breeding in large quantities. While you personally may have not had any puppies die yet, the survival statistics and RNG of this game are much more difficult than Liodenās.
Second, hunt/explore/fight/scout/etc as much as physically possible. Beef your prideās stats up to wear the synergy of your hunting team is as high as possible, your scouts are high level, your pupsitterās are high level, etc. so you can provide basic care during the winter when things get tougher. Youāll need to be focused on personality types and stats a lot for right now in order for your hunting party to be successful.
Third, research the herbs/remedies/cures as much as you can! These will come in handy for selling those bundles and curing your own pride of ailments.
Fourth, donāt be selling all of your items right off the bat - HOARD your items until at least PA goes live.
Fifth, keep everyone 100% fed and happy until their stats are boosted.

-Crossroads has been updated to simple selectable images in a list rather than a map view

-You have a limited number of starting biomes. You can send wolves to scout unexplored territories to gain access to them
-Seasonal biomes & weather in explore
-You can click on items you acquire in explore directly, presumably to use them
-Enemies in explore now have their own levels - you can encounter level 15 enemies as a level 1 wolf, for example
-Addition of HP and healing items; you can still explore if you have 0 HP, but you canāt hunt
-All wolves have their own energy for hunting and scouting, which replenishes the same way as your Lioden king. Both male and female wolves can hunt, scout, be herbalists, and be pup sitters
-Hunting packs have party synergy, which increases their chances of catching prey when working with the same group
-Descendants and lineage have been consolidated onto fewer pages
-You can only have one breeding male in your pack at a time. This can be any wolf in your pack, and does not have to be your lead wolf
-Lead wolves can be male or female
-Broodmothers -> pup sitters. Can protect up to 10 puppies, each takes 10% energy, and they divide 60% protection evenly between each cub they protect
-Up to six puppies in a litter
-Herbalists: Can cure health conditions contracted by wolves in your pack. You learn cures first, then use the ones you have learned. Leveling up your herbalist reduces costs for healing sick wolves and makes cures faster.

suing city animal control for collecting lose dogs and cats and returning them to the addresses on thier collars.Ā You know. that thing animal control does so the animals donāt get run over or disemboweled by the coyotes or catch and spread rabies.Ā The thing thatās illegal to let your pet do out here for those reasons Karen.

talking felt like swallowing glass, and the only words i spoke for the majority of my time off was the hoarse croaking i made down the phone to let my manager know that yes, surprise surprise, i was still going to be off for two weeks just like iād told her every time before.
they didnāt see anything wrong with this redundant, almost tortuous request. to them it was just policy for absence and i had to follow through with it, no matter how much it hurt.

I broke my foot on the job last Sunday. I work in a warehouse and my dumbass coworker Doug was fucking around and ended up tipping a heavy crate right onto my foot. It hurt like a bitch and now my whole foot is encased in a cast, and Iām going to be on crutches until August probably. And of course the various fucking managers all keep calling in. How am I doing? Could I come into work today? When am I going to be able to come back into work? Are you sure you canāt make it in? Why not? Isnāt there any way you can work around your injury? Like, morons, I sent you a copy of the fucking doctors report. I am out of fucking commission until practically the end of the fucking summer.
I swear by the Lord our God and all of his Saints that managers are not actually human beings. Theyāre all just built in some factory somewhere and sold to corporations whenever they need them. Itās the only way to explain how fucking dense and utterly self centered every single one of them are. Itās ludicrous.

My boss has other ideas.

I had to continue cashiering with one hand for two hours before my lunch break, all the while my boss is telling me to pick up the pace because my items-per-hour is substandard.
I at least had the common courtesy to wait until the end of my shift before I quit.
Former coworker of mine spilled boiling water on herself while cooking pasta at work. She told the manager at the time, āIt burns!! It really really burns!!! I have to go to the hospital!ā
Manager told her āYeah itās hot water itāll burn, finish your shift and you can goā
Her shift wasnāt over for the next 2 hours
Luckily a server happened to be waiting on a few nurses, so the server grabbed the burned lady and had the nurses look at her injury and they determined they were 2nd degree burns and she had to go to the hospital IMMEDIATELY
Only THEN did the manager begrudgingly allow my former coworker to leave the premises, and complained the whole time that she had to āpick up the slack.ā
This very same manager used to text me on my days/time off to tell me āYou didnāt do xā or āYou left without doing Yā
Once I was working at a movie theater and got a sharp pain in my side. I tumbled to the floor. My (male) manager leaned over and asked if I was on my period (gross enough but I was 15 at the time). It hurt so much I could breathe, but he made me stand up and keep working.
From 6pm to 12am I was on the verge of passing out from pain. Because it was such a short shift, I didnāt get a break. I get off work and go home. My aunt took me to the er immediately. Appendicitis. I had appendicitis. Fuck managers
This. Is. deliberate.
They arenāt being ignorant. They donāt not understand the problem. They are deliberately trying to make you feel guilty and ashamed for having the audacity to be injured.
This is why we unionize, and this is why we call our unions at the first sign of this bullshit.
