The Odyssey if the suitors were competentβ¦
Go Check out Neet- sheβs awesome (her socials are at the bottom of the linked page if you want to see some of the training videos for this and other silliness)
sorry for the mixed signals I donβt know what I want or what Iβm doing mostly
very common rhetorical device of "i'm a part of the affected group, how can you accuse me of being bigoted towards the affected group?" that i feel like has a clear breakdown that isn't invoked often enough
if someone's words or actions are bigoted towards their own group, they are either:
1) hurting themselves, which they should stop doing. or more likely,
2) selling out other people within their group, in which their experiences as part of the group should be used as knowledge and empathy to not do that, but are instead used as justifications to do that
you being disabled does not mean there are not people who are disabled in different ways who you are being bigoted towards, or that you aren't ableist on the whole, with or without an exception for your personal disability. replace "disabled" with "trans" and "a woman" and "poor" and whatever else may be applicable

Yeah, I mean, he is a dork, for sure. But he's my dork.
Bradward Boimler, played by Jack Quaid in STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS (2020-2024)
Considering the possibility of Holmes being related to the Addams Family, probably on Morticia's side for the Frenchness
Primarily based on these images
But also because I want Holmes and Morticia to speak French, and for him to fence with Gomez, and teach the kids about poisons and criminals
(The family all adore Watson and find him absolutely fascinating, of course)
βHereβs a letter for you, old man,β I announced as I sifted through the morning post one grey day in October. βNot a lot else, Iβm afraid.β
Holmes folded down the top of the newspaper he was reading so he could see me. βA letter from whom?β
βNot sure.β I turned it over to study it as best I could. The envelope was thick and expensive, postmarked from America. The ink was rich and black, and it smelled unexpectedly floral, with an odd sulphuric note underneath. βLooks to be a womanβs writing, Iβd say.β
βIf you would.β He held out a pale hand. I passed him the envelope and he neatly sliced it open with his pocket knife. A single page slipped out onto his breakfast plate. He unfolded it with a flick of his wrist, then smiled. βAh! Morticia.β
βMorticia?β
βAddams. She is my second cousin.β
I was immediately intrigued, for Holmes so rarely talked about his relatives. It had taken several years after our meeting for him to bring up the subject of his elder brother, who lived and worked barely an hourβs walk away. I wasnβt surprised that a second cousin in America had gone unnoted until now.
βUnusual names run in the family, I see.β
Holmes smirked. βHer grandmother was my great-aunt SΓ©raphine, who met and married a quite singular gentleman named Algernon Frump while travelling. They settled over in the States many years ago, and dear Morticia now resides there with her husband.β
βWhy does she write you?β
βShe is arranging a sort of family reunion on All Hallowβs Eve. Apparently it has been far too long since we have all seen each other.β
βHow long is that?β
βSeveral years at least. It was certainly before you and I met.βΒ
βAnd will you oblige her?β
βI suppose I will.β He folded the letter and placed it neatly back in its envelope, tucking it into his inside pocket. βYouβve been angling for a holiday, my boy. Would this satisfy you?β
βWouldnβt it be terribly rude?β I asked, startled. βShe has invited you, not me.β
He tutted. βNonsense, Watson! Morticia knows we live together, of course.β
βHow?β
βShe will have read your book.β
βOh! Well that is kind of her. But a family reunion, Holmes, I am notββ
βYou are my partner and intimate friend. I assure you there are members of the Addams clan with far more tenuous connections, and many of them also of no blood relation. You will not be out of place, and they will be glad to meet you.β
1 absolutely yes. it would be really funny if they get there and there's a mystery to solve and Holmes starts considering supernatural options. Watson is like ? you told me ghosts aren't real ? And Holmes is like they aren't real in Britain. Only in the United States
2 in Wednesday specifically bc Wednesday and Enid are parallels of Holmes and Watson if you have enough brain worms. I really love it when an older set of characters mirrors a younger set and realizes it so they do their best to help out the younger set. I may end up drawing this
Watson would absolutely see the parallel and try to gently warn Enid away from joining the military. Enid would be like, that was never an option, wtf.
Also:
Gomez: Do you fence, old man?
Watson: ... no. I shoot.
(Everyone pictures that one scene from Indiana Jones)
The legacies people leave behind in you.
My handwriting is the same style as the teacherβs who I had when I was nine. Iβm now twenty one and heβs been dead eight years but my iβs still curve the same way as his.
I watched the last season of a TV show recently but I started it with my friend in high school. We havenβt spoken in four years.
I make lentil soup through the recipe my gran gave me.
I curl my hair the way my best friend showed me.
I learned to love books because my father loved them first.
How terrifying, how excruciatingly painful to acknowledge this. That I am a jigsaw puzzle of everyone I have briefly known and loved. I carry them on with me even if I donβt know it. How beautiful.

Oh, this is remarkably of its era. I was just viscerally launched back to the specific amalgamation of meme printouts my roommate and I decorated our bulletin boards with senior year of college.
Unhealthy ships in a fandom are a bioindicator. They're like finding caterpillars on your produce. You may not want to consume them---you may even find them disgusting---but if they aren't there at all, you know that stuff is COVERED in toxicity.
There are some people in the reblogs saying "too many caterpillars are unhealthy too though!" but they are WRONG. You can always remove a caterpillar but you can't wash off pesticide
#this is a metaphor for 'you can dldr as many fics as you want but you can't avoid people who come to you to make you feel bad'

Under Virginia law, a month had to elapse before the death sentence could be carried out. Governor Wise resisted pressures to move up the execution date because, he said, he wanted everyone to see that Brown's rights had been thoroughly respected.
Brown made it clear repeatedly in his letters and conversations that these were the happiest days of his life. He would be publicly murdered, as he put it, but he was an old man and, he said, near death anyway. Brown was politically shrewd and realized his execution would strike a massive blow against Slave Power, a greater blow than he had made so far or had prospects of making otherwise. His death now had a purpose. In the meantime, the death sentence allowed him to publicize his anti-slavery views through the reporters constantly present in Charles Town, and through his voluminous correspondence.
Before his conviction, reporters were not allowed access to Brown, as the judge and Andrew Hunter feared that his statements, if quickly published, would exacerbate tensions, especially among the enslaved. This was much to Brown's frustration, as he stated that he wanted to make a full statement of his motives and intentions through the press.[54]:β212β Once he had been convicted, the restriction was lifted, and, glad for the publicity, he talked with reporters and anyone else who wanted to see him, except pro-slavery clergy.[46]
Brown received more letters than he ever had in his life. He wrote replies constantly, hundreds of eloquent letters, often published in newspapers,[133]:β43β and expressed regret that he could not answer every one of the hundreds more he received. His words exuded spirituality and conviction. Letters picked up by the Northern press won him more supporters in the North while infuriating many white people in the South.
KING
Just a couple of the quotes about him that I like:
βHis zeal in the cause of freedom was infinitely superior to mine. Mine was as the taper light, his was as the burning sun. Mine was bounded by time. His stretched away to the silent shores of eternity. I could speak for the slave. John Brown could fight for the slave. I could live for the slave. John Brown could die for the slave.β
-Frederick Douglass
"That new saint, than whom nothing purer or more brave was ever led by into conflict and death, β the new saint awaiting his martyrdom, and who, if he shall suffer, will make the gallows glorious like the cross."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
[Image Description: initial tweet by Haymarket Books, at HaymarketBooks. It is dated May 9, Twenty twenty-three. It says "Abolitionist John Brown was born May 9, Eighteen hundred." Beneath the tweet is a grayscale portrait of John Brown, an elderly white man with a long, bushy beard. In reply, Edward Ongweso Jr, @ BigBlackJacobin, tweets "Happy birthday to this crazy ass white boy. One day we are gonna go back in time and give him power armor." End I.D.]

The thing about Miss Piggy is that she kind of has a Roger Rabbit comedy superpower where she wins nearly any conceivable fight she's in. But unlike other characters of which that's true, like say, Bugs Bunny, who tend to win because they make the opponent play the game with their rules, Miss Piggy wins because the joke is that she can beat the shit out of literally anybody.
This just wildly reminded me of this one speculation thread I read, possibly a full decade ago, about whether Bugs Bunny would be able to beat Saitama the titular One Punch Man (I forgot the details but I think Bugs Bunny won because his is the genre power of comedy and OPM is more comedy than BB is action so he would prevail on area advantage), and now I just imagining how that same thread would go if it was Miss Piggy.
One Punch Man vs. One Karate-chop Pig
Who would win?
Miss Piggy
One Punch Man
Your justifications below please.
Everybody go home, @cryptiddeer has won.
Somebody give this guy/gal a bajillion dollars and a movie studio.

"How can I be a failure when I never even got my chance? It's a chance you're throwing away. You're always trying to be the anchor, Hevy, y'know, do it on your own. Well, maybe you should embrace the fact that you have a team. See, I never had that. But you need them, and they need you. Why carry such a heavy burden on your own, when you have your brothers at your side, Hevy?"
