btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
KAM
Men will write things like this and then insist that misogyny isn't real and that women are privileged
Men write things like this and then turn around and claim that theyโre the rational ones
"feminism will never be taken seriously because I am jerking off to the mouth of scarjo as she tells me I need to respect women" this is exactly why feminism should be focused solely on women and girls and ways to improve their lives, instead of on trying to make men listen
I truly believe being able to name the world around you is integral to animism. learn the names of plants and flowers. learn how the rocks and soil you walk over daily form. sit with the streams and rivers, learn where they flow to and from. learn the names others have given, and give them your own as well. animism is interconnectedness, and one simple step is learning the names of your neighbors
What kind of relationship do the species in your local forest have with each other? What type of forest is it and what kind of plants like to grow there? Do the plants whose names you're learning like to grow in moist or dry spots? When do they bloom? Is your local forest in its natural state or has it been handled by humans? How can you tell?
My journey in forest mapping has brought up a lot of these questions. It's not just learning the names of plants, it's also learning about their growth environments and what makes them different. Some plants are indicators of a specific forest type. It's learning about the relationships between different species; some of them like to grow together. I have to look at the history of the forest and the structural features of it... etc.
It has been very cool to notice how my appreciation for different types of forests has changed. It's nice that I can tell the difference between a really really beautiful and "valuable" forest and less nicer ones. Species mapping has truly been amazing for my practice. It has opened up whole new layers of love for nature beyond just "oh wow what a pretty flower."
"that is a plant and it matters to me, i want to learn about it because plant business is my business" - genuinely a life changing quote from Simon Barnes. His books aren't spiritual or talk about animism really directly but they talk about making it so nature matters to you. And are fillrd with practical tips on how to start with botany or bird watching or really any hobby in which you're observing nature. which can seem overwhelming there's so much to see and experence in nature. His books make it seem manageable and give great jumping off points. I recommend rewild yourself and how to be a bad botanist!

How Will It Change Me?, oil on canvas by Lydia Pettit on Instagram
Excuse me, but some of us got into witchcraft because we wanted to set shit on fire.
Set on fire and drown in the river, the duality of witchkind ๐
YES ๐
But... but what about burying stuff in the dirt? ๐ฅบ
so we got fire, water and earth already
Some of us go into witchcraft because we.... uhhh like to breathe? have an affinity for hang gliding? are lowkey jealous Dorothy got sucked into a tornado!
Some of us got into witchcraft because we like to whistle up storms ๐
Always be hope-pilled. Things are fucking rough. Many of us have experienced horrors that are almost unspeakable. But still there is good in the world. Females from all walks of life organize, look after one another, and advocate for one another. We are beating men in educational attainment, birth rates are going down, more resources exist for domestic violence and rape. And there is pushback to all of this! But we need to push back harder and continue to support and look after one another rather than allow ourselves to fall into despair. I believe in us.

Never limit yourself. You donโt have to choose between STEM and the arts. You donโt have to choose between that aesthetic or the other. Just let yourself be the most authentic self you can be, embrace all the different aspects of your personality, your interests, and your skills.
There's a video of a guy reacting to the gender reveals of his children. For his first two (both girls), he gives a small, polite smile and hugs his wife. For the last one (a boy), he jumps up and down, shouting ecstatically.
The bar for men is so low that his disappointment at having daughters is considered acceptable, as long as he attempts to conceal it. No one questions the misogynistic biases that led to him feeling disappointed in the first place. We treat it like a given that men will see sons as more desirable than daughters, so the best you can hope for is that he'll have the decency to keep his disappointment to himself.
Even worse is the comment that frames the son as a "reward" for him "not being an ass." She is literally saying, "You did a good job pretending to be happy about your unwanted kids, so now you deserve to feel genuinely happy about your wanted kid!"
A true "green flag" of a man wouldn't need to fake his happiness, he would just... be happy. (And this man clearly wasn't actually that concerned about keeping his favoritism secret, or else he wouldn't have reacted so differently to his son than his daughters.)
When Adrienne Rich said โour minds and bodies are inseparable in this life, and when we allow our bodies to be treated as objects, our minds are in mortal dangerโ
