Just to get this out of the way: "cult" as in mystery religion, not high control group.
Anyway, HI! I'm Friend-[redacted], welcome to my super occult side blog.
I am a bioregional animist and uh.... sorcerer? Let's go with that. I do magic shit, is the point.
I'm interested in chatting with people about magic, mysticism and animism. I like to explore concepts via humor, and while I am in a long term, committed relationship with The Bit, my interest/belief in magic is not a bit.
I am not interested in being a teacher, "resource", or content creator. I do not claim any authority on these subjects, nor do I particularly trust most people who do.
I'm pretty friendly! Come, play with me in this space.
Edit: I've also written a couple of zines, which are now password protected (not because they're particularly secret, but because I don't want them turning up on search engines anymore).
Zine #1 is a silly look at animism, spirits, and the not-quite-supernatural. Password: irregularnatural
Zine #2 is a flexible seasonal celebration, based on taking time to rest. It is also silly. Password: mossscape
Both are free to download. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing them! Reblogs are off for a reason -- please don't repost these.

the problem with tumblr spells is all of you lil sluts are casting and not giving it time to charge so you're all casting cantrips and not 9th level death spells. everyone wants to be the one to take them down no one wants to be the one who assists
In case anyone wants to make their own (very basic) magical ink but doesn't know how, here you go:
something for color: I grew up using pigeonweed berries (Phytolacca americana, poisonous) for this, but you can also use burnt bits of matchstick, charred wood, charcoal ash, burned herbs, and lots of other things that make it really easy to align your ink with a magical goal.
water or some kind of liquid: Different color sources have different moisture levels, so how much liquid will vary. It needs enough liquid to give it the desired ink-consistency. I use water or alcohol (if I want it to dry more quickly or extract more color). I have seen other people use liquified egg yolk with good results as well.
a binder: Something that acts as a thickener to keep all the ink color from just being suspended in the liquid and holds it together to make the color more even across writing. I have found gum arabic and arrowroot powder to be the most self stable, but I have also used honey for a single-use ink.
Grind up the color element. If you're working with a dry element (which I find to be the best option for the most pigment) you will want it to be as fine a powder as possible. Make sure to remove (or sift out) any seeds, clumps or large bits. Add the liquid element until it comes into the consistency you're looking for or slightly thinner. Add the binder and stir until well mixed. Adjust until consistency and color are where you want them to be.
Some inks work well with basic quills. Some work better with brushes. Experiment until you find what you like. It's not fancy, but that's a basic ink. These inks don't last forever. They should ideally be used within a month or so.

Realizing my recent purchase from a stage magic shop is actually the second stage magic purchase I have bought for magic magic.
The first was fanning powder for tarot cards, but I didn't really like it. This one was for flash paper and flash string.
Was seriously interested in what I could do with spirit fire writing solution. You paint something on paper and it dries invisible, then you light it and glows and burns slowly and looks cool.
Any other thoughts on stage magic stuff to use for real magic.
This takes me right back to high school when we used to have beach bonfires and my friend's dad, who worked at some sort of warehouse or industrial site, used to source us old wooden palettes to torch. Sometimes we'd get ones that had soaked up chemicals and the flames would randomly and unexpectedly turn colors when they hit those parts.
It's probably a small miracle that we're all not dead of brain cancer or some shit from the fumes, but ahh, memories. XD
My sibling and I used to burn soda cans and make melted sculptures out of plastic flatware. Not smart!
There's lots of science behind the color changes and website that can explain the specific chemicals. If you don't want to break out your chemistry set, here are some household things you can use to change the colors.
Oh man, when I used to do bronze casting, we'd put pennies on the pour cups of our castings while the bronze was still hot (the pour cup is the hole in the top of the mold where you pour the hot bronze in), and they'd burn blue! Most pennies these days are mostly zinc, and those ones also produce a weird foam as they burn.
most folks who are sitting there thinking, "What should I put in my grimoire??" probably don't need a grimoire, they need a notebook. a binder. a journal.
this is my official and professional observation as a witch.
I would say yes, others might disagree, but I can't speak for them :')))
My post is less a commentary on what a grimoire is and more a commentary on doing the work of having a practice to document. You know what to put in your grimoire as you develop your path and as you see which things you go back to reference, as you create things you want to remember, as you make changes you think are worth noting.
Worrying about "what do I put in my grimoire??" before you have those things is silly. So don't worry about that. Just put things into notebooks or obsidian vaults or whatever works for you. Whatever things you want.
"Should I document my every ritual in my grimoire?" Put it in a notebook and see if it's useful to you.
"Should I include information on the astrological signs in my grimoire?" Put them in a notebook and see if they're useful to you. Do you go back and reference them ever or are they just pages in a book?
You'll put things in you eventually won't use anymore or like anymore or even completely disagree with. You'll add things that you'll reference a lot to your notebook. Over time you'll wish you had specific information in there and then you'll add it too.
Can the notebook become a grimoire? Sure. Don't worry about that. That's not the point. And should a time come that you want to take things out of your notebook(s) and put them into a fancy book or a new plain notebook, you'll go through your own material and know for yourself what goes in, it won't be me or anyone else out here telling you what you need.
It's also easy to fall into the trap of getting a special fancy book that you plan on using for your grimoire, but then it is so special and fancy that you become afraid of writing in it.
If this sounds like you, all the more reason to start with a cheap notebook. This will be your lab notebook as you experiment and get your hands dirty. Cross shit out, tear pages out, spill tea on it. It's fine. This is a rough draft.
Incidentally, as a writer I also cannot emphasize enough the importance of the rough draft. You are SLAPPING IDEAS ONTO THE PAGE BEFORE THEY ESCAPE, they don't need to be fully formed or good. That's for editing, which is a separate process. Don't let yourself get so hung up on potentially making mistakes that you fail to do anything at all.
no offense and fully appreciate your transparency but it's not full context of what happened in all fairness. I'm in the otherworld server. It was implied that the racism they experienced and the disrespect was from multiple and was a gang up. Care to address that?
No offense taken. Here's the full conversation from start to finish, posted with anyone's username aside from my own and Willow's/salixsociety's redacted for privacy, and because I don't have time to get permission from everyone to post their names. But this is everything. You'll find no racism directed at salixsociety (who I will remind you is white), but you'll see salixsociety be dismissive toward BIPOC, and you'll see that they spread racist lies in their own server, which I'll include screenshots of as well. In fact, you'll find that nothing Willow claimed happened... happened. But sure, let's address it. With evidence. [Here's the context post to which this anon is referring, for other readers.]
For the record, I do not hold members of Salixsociety's server, "the Otherworld," accountable for offering Willow/salixsociety support in response to their lies, as I'm assuming they had no way of knowing they were being lied to, and it's not their fault they were lied to. However, those of you who have come to my inbox echoing Willow's lies and accusing me of "racism" for *checks notes* suggesting Willow/Salixsociety not call POC "ethnic" or "exotic" or "racial," to those of you who have done that, I do think you need to sit with the facts of the matter instead of joining Willow in spreading lies. Now, here are the screenshots.
Screenshots are in order from top-to-bottom. Transcripts of all screenshots will be below the cut for those who need them. I'll start with the screenshots of the initial interaction. Screenshots from the Otherworld server and my addressing Willow's lies will be in another section below.
This was the end of the matter in our server and the end of our interaction. However, Willow/salixsociety then went to their own server of, I'm told, 400+ members and lied. I was sent screenshots of the lies and accusations, which I will include. Again, everyone except Willow has had their names and icons redacted. Due to time zone differences between myself and the person who sent me the screenshots below, the timestamps on the server posts will look different. The post Willow made lying in their server occurred 32 minutes following Willow leaving the above interaction.
You'll find below screenshots of Willow/salixsociety/"Idis" going to their discord server (the Otherworld) and...
lying about what happened,
accusing people of having "attacked" them (never happened),
accusing people of "piling criticisms" (never happened),
"including racist ones and ones that dismissed me and my experience" (again, never happened; and, also, what experience as a white person in the matter of what terms are or aren't harmful to BIPOC...?),
saying they were "accused of shit implicitly" (they were never accused of anything, actually),
saying they were "shunned" (literally 5 people were engaged in conversation with them about their essay, which they posted themselves asking for opinions on),
saying they were "questioned in bad faith" (no one questioned them about anything),
saying they were "assumed to be racist" (that also never happened),
saying they were "met with aggression" (again, this did not happen, and is also racist),
saying they were met with "fast-paced angered retorts that engaged in racism actively" (none of this is true, as you can see from the screenshots above, in which only 9 messages were sent accumulatively from Willow's reply at 15:50/3:50pm to when Willow left the server at 16:24-16:25/4:24-4:25pm; 9 messages accumulatively sent in a conversation between 6 users, including Willow and myself)
saying people were "attacking (their) character" (never happened),
accusing people of "dogpiling" (again, it was 9 messages accumulatively sent over the span of 35 minutes in a server in which 6 people, including Willow and myself, were speaking),
saying there was "casual racism displayed" (...where??? because the only racism I saw came from Willow).
You'll also note that Willow/salixsociety was never upfront or honest with their server members about what the interaction was, giving only a deliberately vague explanation that does not expose that they are, in fact, accusing BIPOC of being racist to them (a white person) in asking that they (the white person) refrain from calling POC "ethnic," "exotic," and "racial." Therefore, I can't and won't fault the server members who unknowingly were joining in on Willow's/salixsociety's choice to represent POC as not being intelligent or informed enough to "understand" Willow's posts "despite my best attempts to meet you where you're at."
As an aside, where I'm at is I am an educated scholar, who has never earned anything less than an A in my entire academic career, has multiple national accolades for academic achievements, and has had my essays and articles published in magazines, newspapers, and academic journals, including articles on the topics of anti-racism, anti-Islamophobia, anti-xenophobia, and related issues. I speak, read, and write more than 10 languages and have extensive experience as a translator and interpreter. I have more than two decades of experience in activism and community organization, and have lived my entire life as a person of color. My lived experience as a person of color alone should not be so quickly dismissed by a white person who has taken it upon themselves to "talk about institutionalized racism," of which they have zero lived experience. I, however, have lived with racism every single day of my life. That's where I'm at. That's where you're meeting me. You are speaking down on me based on assumptions you've made seemingly knowing nothing about me other than my race. ...There's a word for that.
I'll put transcripts of every post under the cut.
I have no idea where Willow's claims come from. None of what they said ever happened. It should be noted, though, that all of Willow's/salixsociety's claims find roots in racist stereotypes. Every single one. And I will not ignore that, nor will I allow someone to prop up their lies about me on such stereotypes.
Transcriptions of all screenshots under the cut (I'll be highlighting racism in red and lies in purple; though I can't highlight the entire message in which Willow decided it was their place to explain racism to a person of color and police how that person of color should engage with racism, which is obviously very racist. That would mean the entire message was red, though, and I don't want readers to have to deal with that).:
Username "Idis" (salixsociety): I'm trying to force myself to rebuild a social life so I'll throw my post in a few of the servers I'm in for the sake of opening it to discussion! This is only one part in a series but I'm enjoying writing it so far.
[followed by a link to a post on salixsociety's tumblr titled 'Ethnic Envy: Chapter 1 in a series on Appropriation and Ethnocide in the Witchcraft Community']
Keziah (responding to salixsociety): So, I finally got the chance to sit down and read this, and, while I can appreciate what I can tell your aims are with this, I (as a reader who isn't white) feel that you should know that there are repeated uses of terms and phrases that are not helpful and can actually be harmful (and in fact uphold white supremacy and cultural essentialism). Things like referring to people (and it seems typically in your piece you're referring to non-white people and cultures when saying these things) as "ethnic" and "exotic" (at one point referring to people as "racial") are issues that POC have been talking about and writing about for years now. These terms are offensive and contribute to the white supremacist beliefs that white is the default setting and anything outside of white is a separate "other."
There are plenty of articles written by POC explaining why people shouldn't be using these terms. I can drop some links if you'd like.
I just feel that since you're planning on making that a theme for a series of posts, you should know going forward how those terms can impact readers who are not white. Because it is not having the same impact as other readers (and might actually detract from your intentions).
Idis/salixsociety (responding to Keziah): I appreciate your effort and your reading, so thank you for that and your desire to educate people. I respect that a lot. But I think it is a little misguided in this instance. The writing in question here is deeply polemic of institutionalized racism and white supremacy (as well as cultural essentialism and imperialism, etc), and it uses these terms ("racial," "ethnic," "exotic," etc) in the context of criticism. It is very true that these words contribute to the problem, which is exactly why using them and exposing people to the harm that is contained in those concepts is so important. When you go to criticize systems and institutions, especially those that make up people's lived reality in the form of biases and thought patterns, you are forced to engage with the terminologies and categories of those structures. I'm not using them because I believe in them, I'm using them because I'm criticizing them, and because in order to criticize them and the broader patterns they reveal I'm forced to use them. We live in a SoCiEtY (sorry I can't really take myself saying that word seriously) where, whether we like it or not, race, ethnicity, and exoticism are still prevalent concepts. They still exist, so we have to use those words to describe those structures and dismantle them. It's unpleasant, I agree, but it is necessary, and it's not necessarily an indication of perpetuation of the problem. Extremely pivotal authors to the liberation movement (like bell hooks herself, who I quote in the essay) have and still do use those words for the same reason. No, people shouldn't be using those words seriously, but my use of them s not sincere or literal.
Trying to write an article criticizing exoticization and ethicization without using those words would be like trying to fight racism without saying the word "race" or "black." Of course, in an ideal world there would be no "races" and people wouldn't be able to be reduced to "black" or "brown" but we don't live in that world, and until then we have to use those words to describe the problems at hand and aim to dismantle them.
[redacted user 1] (responding to Idis/salixsociety): I have to agree with Keziah's sentiment here. Not as an admin, but as a person with a Black father and as someone with a background as a Diversity and Inclusion consultant in the education field, these are terms that should be avoided in any context, but especially in diversity and equity efforts.
[redacted user 2] (responding to Idis/salixsociety): no offense but maybe as a white person you shouldn't speak over POCs telling you not to say/do certain things
[redacted user 3] (responding to Idis/salixsociety): I was gonna say, as a fellow white person I suggest we should definitely defer to the bipoc folks of this server when they tell us using certain terminology is harmful.
[redacted user 4]: I think I understand what Will is trying to get at, but ultimately, yeah, like you reference bell hooks using certain words or phrasing, but she is, crucially to this conversation, not white.
and obviously do not alter direct quotes from her, but when doing your own writing it's important to try and be cognizant of things like that.
[redacted user 3]: I do want to point out that your post did indeed have its valid points and critiques in it, this is not an attempt to dismiss it entirely. At the same time, I think we should be uplifting the work and insight of our bipoc friends here in the witchblr community if we want to be doing serious de-colonial and anti-racist work.
[redacted user 4] (to Idis/salixsociety): from reading the post I think it's clear that you don't necessarily agree with -- what [redacted user 3] said basically, like I think the large scale ideas of the post are generally good insights, but your phrasing in some areas could have used an editing pass.
Like to give an exact example: "But is reality it goes quite a lot deeper than that. WS [white supremacy] has created, and aims to perpetuate, a worldwide social system that regards whiteness as the 'default' and racial features as deviating from that default." the use of the phrase 'racial features' is not necessary to communicate what you are trying to communicate.
I'm not gonna pretend to be an expert and am happy to defer to others but that's the one that jumped out at me
Even just phrasing it as "what white supremacist culture deems as 'racial features'" would help a lot.
[redacted user 1]: Non-white or non-European features would perhaps be a better choice.
Keziah (responding to Idis/salixsociety): The thing is, you've used those terms on your blog outside of that post and context as well, so I'm operating under the assumption from your posts that these are part of your vocabulary, such as in your post about hijabs.
Furthermore, your terminology aside, the essay in question further centralizes the white experience and in turn erases that there are witches and pagans who are simply not white. While I understand your intentions with the post, my perspective in reading it as a person who is not white does not equal my failing to understand what you were trying to do. I do not need that explained to me. It does, however, offer insight into the lived experience of people who are not white who may read the post. Quite simply, the way you present your stance seems to be counterproductive to what you're intending to come across as, and actually is more harmful than it is helpful.
[redacted user 4]: Also this is a slightly different note but I would argue that the melting pot/USAmerican white culture does actually exist, it just is not normally acknowledged because it is seen as 'default' due to white supremacy at a societal level -- like, everyone has A Culture of some sort, it comes with being a human and living in a community. I feel like the essay focused a lot on the erasure of European ethnic identities in places like North America, which is also a true thing that happened, but it would also be interesting to consider the former in this context as well (which it's possible you did and I just didn't pull that implication from reading it)
I don't want to give you too much to see or respond to though. I don't know if you're currently reading this or if you'll come back to a wall of text sldkflsj so I will leave my input at that for now
Keziah (responding to Idis/salixsociety): I will also point out that bell hooks was using white people's language to speak to white people. And just because one person of color is okay with terms, that doesn't mean we all are or even that the general consensus agrees, or that, in 2026, that terminology is still considered "okay." I'm not "misguided" in my opinion, and, to be perfectly honest, that reaction and the fact that you felt the need to explain something to me that I understood perfectly but simply did not receive the way you wanted me to is a whole other issue entirely.
Idis/Willow/Salixsociety: This entire argument makes absolutely no sense and completely dismisses my own, but there is nowhere for me to go from here and I'm really not interested in trying to justify myself in an environment like this, so I will be taking my leave.
[redacted user 5] (responding to salixsociety): I feel like this is a real cop out of a reply ngl.
Keziah (responding to salixsociety): My lived experience as someone who is not white isn't an "argument" and you are diminishing that.
[Idis/Willow/Salixsociety left the server.]
FOLLOW ARE TRANSCRIPTS OF THE SCREENSHOTS FROM THE OTHERWORLD SERVER, INCLUDING WILLOW/IDIS/SALIXSOCIETY LYING & USING RACIST TROPES & STEREOTYPES TO DO SO:
User "Idis"/salixsociety/Willow (to the Otherworld server): Sorry this is a vent, not really a prompt or anything, so I'm putting it here and spoilering it because I don't want to sound entitled but it is so fucking exhausting to publicly talk about institutionalized racism. I don't want to go on about it too much because it's a million thousand times worse for people of color who are doing it but it is genuinely so soul-crushingly exhausting to have to be accused of shit implicitly, or shunned or questioned in bad faith literally at every turn because people don't understand it and assume that that must mean I'm racist for some goddamn reason. it's so exhausting to fight for my rights and other peoples' rights and have my motives questioned, and i feel very privileged to be able to do it at all, but sometimes it gets so emotionally destructive to have to answer these accusations and bad faith questions and shit
"um the word "exotic" actually has very racist history" yes. i know. that's. literally what i'm talking about. and i feel i couldn't have stated that much more literally despite my best attempts to meet you where you're at.
HUUuUUUUUUUUUUU "wHy Is FiGhTiNg FoR LiBeRaTiOn SO HAAAAAAAAAARD WAAAAAAHHH" literally what i sound like sorry
[redacted user 1]: Your takes are always extremely well thought out and thought provoking. Gods know your pieces have really, profoundly resonated with me (and I mean that). People online can be ever so DUMB. I'm sorry but DUMB like simple reading comprehension is
b e y o n d their scope, and I can only imagine how annoying or heavy it must be to have them messaging/replying offensively.
"Idis"/salixsociety/Willow: I have no idea how to ask for emotional support but y'all would correct me if you thought i was being racist or contributing to the problem right
[redacted user 2]: We very much would. I'm pretty sure some would slap you.
[redacted user 3]: Ofc. If its okay to ask, for context, was this a situation that happened with the tumblr thread rant? Or something different?
[redacted user 1]: You are receiving emotional support. And a side of "absolutely not"
[redacted user 4]: Yeah I would. I just saw the context actually with what I assume ur talking ab. I think you could've worded it a little differently?? like yes those terms are relevant to the conversation at hand but I feel like there's ways to get that across without. Outright using them in said context. Even if you didn't mean for it to come across that way.
I do think, based on what I'm reading (context), that the people you were talking to had some good points that I think you should be taking into account going forward... It did seem dismissive to say what you said (trying to be vague) I can't lie.
Idis/salixsociety/Willow (to redacted user 4): How do you think I could have gone about addressing those people differently? I gave them a fairly lengthy and calm explanation before they started attacking my character and piling criticisms that didn't really have anything to do with my work onto me (including racist ones and ones that were dismissive of me in my experience)
[redacted user 4] (to Willow): Let me read a bit. I don't. See? Anything that seems like they were attacking you nor your work?? At least not before when you left -- they seemed pretty reasonable for the most part but idk.
I think maybe having disengaged instead of flatout leaving the server may have helped?? But idk. I just woke up to this. Sorry if i'm making no sense. Like I may just be reading the conversation wrong.
Idis/salixsociety/Willow (to redacted user 4): "At least not before you left" is telling. I was definitely unsure if my approach in the work itself was unproductive and I'm definitely taking their points to do with that into consideration, but I am really confident that the way they behaved toward me wasn't appropriate. I think dogpiling is kind of by definition poor internet etiquette, which they were definitely doing. I don't really feel comfortable going into the casual racism displayed , but they were definitely making subtle ad hominems, and I think that if I give somebody a lengthy explanation and I'm met with aggression and fast-paced angered retorts that engage in racism actively, there's nothing wrong with just politely leaving. That doesn't feel like dismissal to me personally but like a boundary.
[redacted user 4]: ah yeah that makes sense
[redacted user 5] (to Willow): I'd point it out in a heartbeat. But I'm sure whatever you did wasn't done with malicious intentions. You're a chill person.
