Well to be fair, one of his investigative books “the internets gavel” is about the unregulated corners of the Internet, and he did another about the aids crisis. So I think he would be decently familiar with internet slang and the queer community enough to where he would use that language. He’s also just a very referential character in his dialogue, so Not a stretch considering the plethora of other modern references he makes (Taylor and travis, jellyroll and post malone, etc;) that he’s just… a chronically online old man.
