I wish people were as scared of getting into a car accident as they are of being true crime'd. Maybe then they wouldn't be on their phones while driving.
Yeah
Also maybe then they'd care about having a decent public transit system
so many people whose reason for not taking the bus is "safety" and it's such bullshit
the disconnect from reality is so intense. car crashes kill and hurt so many more people than, like, violent strangers lurking around the corner with a gun or knife or whatever people are mostly scared of
and on public transit there's both the traffic safety of a large vehicle with a well-trained driver, and the personal safety of many witnesses if someone there does decide to be violent
have worked with someone who could not bring herself to ride a bus, because she saw someone get mugged on a bus once. Not her, just someone she saw (and from what I know of the buses around here, the crime was probably interrupted before anyone could be seriously harmed). But it scared her off buses permanently
Meanwhile she kept driving a car, despite having once been in a car crash that put her personally in the hospital
Wtf people
I really don't get it...also, personally I've never had anything bad happen to me on public transport in multiple countries but everyone I know who drives a car regularly has been in at least a few accidents.
My partner was, however, hit by a car driven by an old lady who probably shouldn't have been driving anymore while he was crossing the street (at a crossing) (the light was green and all the other cars had stopped). He was fine thankfully, but I hate that even if you don't drive a car, you still aren't fully safe from them.
