I think if her law firm charges $2000 per hour and also receiving 1.5M gsg donations people expect high result like few years sentence only for the gun charges and full acquittal from the murder charge. People do really glorify her and if she can't get him out of prison it will reflect negatively on her image as defense lawyer and huge disappointment from the supporters

I also think if he got public defender in the beginning the Fed were less likely recommending DP in the first place. Prosecutors tend to go very harsh on private lawyers but more kind with public defenders. Public defenders might be able to work plea deals with both feds and state prosecutors to get him lower sentence
