i watched lxg again and a thought occurred to me.

obviously this movie has sanded off the edges of the source material, especially of the main cast. we don’t have to fish quartermain out of a opium den. nemo isn’t openly (and rightfully) hostile to the rest of the league nor the frequent victim of their racism. griffin is fully replaced by a new invisible man because he’s so irredeemable in the comics.

so instead of a group of morally dubious to outright evil people brought together against their will who have done and will continue to do awful things, we instead get a group of loveable if misfit rogues who may have some spotty history but are overall good at heart… and hyde who is still fully just a serial killer. but a serial who believes in the power of friendship nonetheless!

this is, of course, hysterical to me. god this movie rules.

Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
