One more movieverse headcanon for the night-
Since Lloyd for very obvious reasons canāt get a regular job in Ninjago City, he does odd jobs for Kokoās friends and acquaintances for spending cash. Helping clean Darethās dojo, maintaining the plants at Misfortuneās Flowers, and, most importantly of all, babysitting Arin whenever Koko has a night out with Barry and Jenny (theyāre friends <3).
So was Garmadon ever part of the Elemental Alliance in your AU? Or was he an evil warlord from the jump and instead an enemy the alliance had to unite against?
He was indeed not a member of the alliance but, in fact, the very threat it was formed to take on! Itās very brief but in the movieās flashback of Garmadon and Koko meeting, we see some kind of war happening where Garmadon is commanding a Skulkin army. In my version of the movieverse this the war the alliance fought in, not The Serpentine War (which was resolved peacefully thanks to a chance meeting between Arcturus and a young Koko). Fittingly itās called The Skeleton War, which is not only where Koko made her proper debut as Lady Iron Dragon, but involved many of the other previous elemental masters, including ones not part of the alliance in the show!
Some notable new additions being: Karloff, Awen (Morroās biological mother- who later died in battle), Baojin (Master of Amber and sibling of Master Chen), and even non-EMs like Ed and Edna (the latter of which being Kokoās mentor).

So it goes unexplained within the movie how on earth (or- how on Ninjago I suppose) nobody knew Koko was Lady Iron Dragon, and while you could chalk it up to the Clark Kent effect (that being nobody in their right mind would ever think to accuse the infamous ex-wife of Garmadon who now works in an office building for being a renowned war hero and at most just assume she kinda resembles her in the way of a celebrity lookalike)- I have another headcanon on the matter.
So, Iāve posted before how I like to imagine the movieverse Time Twins arenāt evil and work as the curators of Ninjago Cityās museum together. Now, I also happen to HC they knew Koko in the days of the Elemental Alliance, of which all of them were in. In the time since, the twins have worked meticulously to make sure every record, picture, visage, whatever have you, of Lady Iron Dragon and any member of the alliance is either altered to not be recognizable, or, in the case of pictures, the face is āconvenientlyā damaged or obscured. Similar principle for any records containing identifying information.
It hurts them so much to mess with historical records but they all used codenames for a reason. Everyone wanted a normal life after the war and that means no chances of being recognized.
I understand a lot of the criticisms for Misako come from the fact she wasn't written very well - because the early writers barely acknowledged women existed, much less respected them - and a lot of our later female characters, particularly the moms, are written with a little more care to them
But I love her. Genuinely. She's an archaeologist, passionate about the history of Ninjago. She knows Spinjitzu, she's the mother of the Green Ninja and the wife of the Dark Lord. THE DAUGHTER IN LAW TO THE FIRST SPINJITZU MASTER I KNOW THAT MAN WOULD HAVE LOVED HOW PASSIONATE SHE IS ABOUT HIS WORLD
Her potential as a character is sooo slept on, by audience and writers alike. The valid criticism of her leaving Lloyd has been acknowledged by the show, LITERALLY her first episode. She knew that Lloyd would have to face his father, and wanted to spare him that fate. When she couldn't, she dedicated her life to helping him instead
TLDR: I think Misako deserves more love than she gets
Also let's not forget how also the fandom gets weirdly misogynistic about her too.
The amount of times I've seen posts that vehemently hate her, not about her writing and having valid criticism for how the writers handled her, JUST her as a character.
You could be a flawed female character and the fandom will absolutely go rabid and mischaracterize you to hell and back and its really upsetting. Especially since I've seen no one really going into depth about her and give her the same love that a lot of other flawed characters have. Hell, HARUMI gets more love than misako. Which is crazy to me since Miasko has a lot of things to play around with *because* the writers neglected her and left a lot of things open to be expanded on more.
(Which honestly I would love to go more farther into depth about how fandom in general treats mother characters but this post isn't about that. Sorry op I went on a rant.)
Literally NEVER apologize for this because you're so right!! Harumi, Aspheera, and so many other female's villains don't seem to get as much vitriol pointed at them, even if there's definitely an amount of it on account of them being villains
Any older fan could also tell you how awful the misogyny was towards Nya and Skylor back in the day. You couldn't read a single fic without them being painted out as bitchy or mean in it. Because the show was originally aimed for boys, it was written for boys, and the young girls who watched it definitely internalised a lot of the subtle misogyny from the early seasons
If I can add on here: an odd phenomenon Iāve noticed is people hiding behind āMisako was poorly writtenā to justify being borderline, if not, just straight up misogynistic towards her. Like Iāve seen people call this character the most vile names possible and theyāre just like āoh see I donāt hate HER I just hate her WRITING because early Ninjago didnāt do women well!!ā and itās like- yeah, it didnāt. But also it feels like theyāre just acknowledging the bad writing for Woke Points(tm) so they canāt be called out for the blatant misogyny.
Iāve said it once and Iāll keep saying it til Kingdom Come: there is nothing in the show Misako has done to warrant the sheer amount of vitriol she receives. And Iām genuinely convinced most of the reasons for hate isnāt even rooted in the canon show anymore and itās just a bunch of echo chambers not fact-checking each other (ex. I very commonly see people being all āMisako left Lloyd for her careerā, āsheās never there after her introductionā and other statements that are just factually incorrect). People can dislike a character for any reason, including no reason but an insane amount of this fandom goes FAR beyond ādislikeā with Misako.

MASTER WU HEADCANON! Wu, being part oni, CAN shapeshift, but unfortunately only ever in appearance and not in form. He uses it to cover imperfections such as scarring, the acid burns from the devourer, as well as his more draconic features such as his horns, wings and slanted eyes. With post 16 only giving him the slightest confidence to show his pointed ears as well as his golden freckles. Despite everything, he hates seeing the battle scars he had gotten through out the years, feeling guilt for the fights that they had formed from. He constantly has to keep his form at bay and never breaks focus, it does drain him, though hes lived with it for long enough that it feels like breathing to him
Just wanna talk about movieverse Dr. Julien in all my and @impulsivefanwriterās various TLNM AUs because my god do we put this man through the eductional wringer.
Multiple doctorates. In what? Whatever the we need him to have a doctorate in! Robotics is obviously a constant but, depending on the AU we pile on marine biology, dentistry, veterinary medicine- legitimately heās just a doctor in whatever we need him to be for the plot.
Busy doing Artfight rn so canāt draw it but Ninjago fandom we should start giving Wu scars from being swallowed by the Great Devourer.
Like maybe something similar to acid burns.
Movieverse headcanon: Ouroboros isnāt a ālost cityā, itās actually a very active and populated place. Whichā¦ yāknow kinda checks out the species of snake people would mainly live in the desert. Itās far from the outskirts of Ninjago City in the Sea of Sand, but thereās some Fangpyre bus systems that run between Ninjago and Ouroboros. It especially boomed in population after the end of The Serpentine War, which was resolved peacefully when a young Koko had a chance encounter with Arcturus (and when I say young she was like a preteen so not Lady Iron Dragon yet) and the discrepancies in the stories from both sides came to light, as well as who those discrepancies came from.

Unsolicited dragon Koko headcanons-
- Kokoās dragon form is big. Not as big as an arc dragon but definitely a LOT bigger than a normal dragon. I made this quick rough size comparison some years back using a shoddily edited screenshot of the Matriarch of the Mountain Dragons for a visual-
- Speaking of arc dragons, Kokoās raw power is roughly equivalent to one. She even has some relatives that are arc dragons themselves back in her home continent.
- The reason Koko has so much raw power is because sheās a direct descendant of the first dragon (and I donāt just mean Firstbourne- nah, I mean an actual, literal goddess).
- Kokoās friends from the alliance (aka the other parents of the ninja) are completely aware of Kokoās dragon form.
- Her dragon form is a western dragon with silver, almost metallic scales, and multiple sets of horns, a few of the smaller ones are golden dragon ivory. This is also where she got her name āLady Iron Dragonā (which started as a mid-battle quip from Lilly after someone shouted about an āiron dragonā and she responded āThatās Lady Iron Dragon to you!ā).
- Koko takes out her Lady Iron Dragon gear sometimes to visit her parents on her home continent and help out with the growing dragon hunter problem.
- Ednaās been forcing Koko to come out to the Sea of Sand to shift without anyone seeing because, after a while on maintain human form it starts to feelā¦ very cramped. And Kokoās a stubborn lady who insists sheās totally fine and she can go another week fully human (she said this five weeks ago).
You just know Misako died a little inside watching the OG 4 shuffle around the collective braincell attempting to pretend to be Stone Warriors. Sheās studied this stuff extensively and it is hurting her on an unspeakable level to watch this tomfoolery unfold in front of her.
You post about your movie-verse AU a lot, which is cool! But now Iām curious-
What was your initial reaction to the Lego Ninjago Movie? Did you like it? Hate it? Somewhere in between?
I was like in 5th grade(ish I canāt remember exactly and Iām too lazy to do the math) when it came out so I was all over it. Of course when I rejoined the fandom after a several year hiatus I wasā¦ well about as critical of the movie as the stereotype of a Ninjago poser gets-
Honestly I gotta give credit to my friend @kittydemon9000 and their fic āSame People, But Not Reallyā for really getting me into the movieverse and seeing it in a new light (plus their Discord server is what connected me to who are now my two closest friends in the world!). Nowadays I hold the opinion that, as an adaptation the movie obviously fails in a comical number of ways, but viewing it through the lens of an offical high school AU and just having fun with it because, for all the critiques I have for some of the writing choices, itās a good time! Plus like every Lego movie the humor is top-notch.
Of course I also obviously appreciate TLNM as a sandbox to explore different ideas with characters within this more urban setting. One philosophy I really like is each and every one of the counterparts stem from the same core traits but they manifest differently from their life circumstances, some more than others.

Iāve got some more unsolicited movieverse headcanons.
One of the really fun thinks me and Imp like to brainrot about is the differences in how elements manifest in the showverse vs the movieverse. Some such example is the element of Earth, which is usually utilized as pillars of rock, boulders, etc. in the showverse, while in the movieverse itās a lot more focused on shockwaves and earthquakes. That part is actually just analysis from the actual canon source material, but one thing we drew from that is show!Earth being focused more in the hands and arms while movie!Earth is focused in the feet and legs.
Also changing Earthās animal symbol from a gorilla to a bull as a reflection of these differences (plus giving the movie!ninja different animal symbols is really fun).
Most unrealistic part of Crystallized is the idea that Pixal couldnāt just make a giant industrial freezer right there in the Samurai X cave within the hour after Nya was frozen.
