And I had an idea for a fic scenario where Dean comes to the conclusion that Sam is in love with him on his own--maybe he overheard something and misunderstood, or maybe he is just basing it on Sam's behavior, whatever--and instead of talking to Sam about it, he just decides to fall in love with Sam back. You know, to make Sam happy. Like a big brother should.

And Dean figures the best way to make himself fall in love is to just... act like he already is. So here's Dean being extra affectionate, finding ways to spend quality time with Sam, to increase intimacy, to go on little dates-that-are-not-called-dates and that do NOT end with Dean going home with the hot waitress and instead he devotes his entire attention to Sam. All without telling Sam what he is doing because he knows Sam would be horrified at the idea of Dean trying to force himself to fall in love with him, Sam is too noble to want that.

And hey, it seems to be working! Dean finds out he is actually incredibly happy devoting all his time and energy to loving Sam this way, figures if the idea had just occurred to him naturally he'd probably have been in love with Sam years ago anyway.

Except. Whatever Dean had thought he understood about Sam he hadn't. Sam wasn't in love with Dean before Dean started all of this, but now that he has spent months basically wooing Sam, Sam is pretty sure that Dean is in love with him, and is essentially asking for a relationship in the most Dean way possible--all actions and no words. So, Sam isn't likely to leave Dean alone in this, is he? Not the brotherly thing to do. So he let's himself be woo'd.

Another why-choose suggestion this week. So, we know that Dean is very, very Gen x, and Sam is an early millennial. Let's discuss. What kind of quirks do they have as a result of their generation? How does it show?

I think my favorite example of their generations was when Dean didn’t know what MySpace was and assumed it was a porn site or something. This man was not on social media, hardly even knew what it was, but he could build an EMF Meter from scratch without trouble. At least in my experience, that is very Gen X of him lol.

at long last, my project for searching youtube captions/transcripts is available publicly!

i downloaded subtitles from every video in the playlist by Emily Kitchen, Every Jared & Jensen Panel (up to date 2026) and all of @detailtilted videos which have full and correct captions. current total is 591 transcripts.

you can search exact phrases by "search phrase in quotes", if you use multiple words not in quotes, it will only return things with every word in your search.

after you search, on the right under the three line button, you can open the filters. i labeled panels that were jared and jensen only as j2, their respective solo panels and everything else falls under others; which may include j2 as well or just one of them. once you click through to a panel, there's tags which includes the year, the con and the people.

i also include an embedded youtube video that the transcript came from. recommend find in page/ctrl-f if you're looking for a specific phrase/word because they often aren't super easy to read due to being largely based on the auto-generated captions (which are getting better all the time but a con panel environment isn't always great audio)

the numbers are the timestamps, so this one for example, you can go to the 6 minute mark in the video to find it.

for the case of gayled_it's videos, i fortunately downloaded the transcripts before her account got zapped so they are in here!

the gayle's archive link will take you to the relevant folder on the google drive that Kanata set up which an archive of all of her videos that we could track down (with approval from gayle), link to the drive in their twitter bio, also here. i preserved the original youtube link so you can use it in the wayback machine on archive.org as well, if needed/desired.

this is primarily for searching the transcripts, but it also serves kind of as a way to find videos in an organized fashion with the consistent tags for the cons, the people and years. hopefully it's useful on both fronts!

i'm working with @j2wiki on also combining their archive of transcriptions into this project, which are complete/readable. i'll keep everyone updated on that as it goes.
