Pressing "x" to doubt on this one because the reddit post itself reads heavily like AI. One of the other things to note alongside typical "genAI structures" [read: novice writing] is the fact that due to genAI's inability to parse ideas worth a damn, it puts emphasis everywhere, leading to emphasis nowhere.
In the first paragraph alone, you have the sentence fragment often used for literary emphasis, then the two proceeding sentences that are both "rule of three" sentences.
Paragraph two is two short, choppy sentences followed by the "It's not x, it's y" format ever-so-slightly remixed.
In paragraph three, there isn't any specific structure I can pick out (which may be due to a gap in my knowledge), but all of the sentences have the same level of emphasis aside from the very last one, which itself is not emphatic because none of it is.
Then in the fourth paragraph the first two sentences also have that same flat level of emphasis, then the last sentence is a "rule of three" sentence. This entire post reads to me like it's trying to be literature when it really doesn't need to be.
I'm not outright accusing OP of using genAI to write this post. However, given the subreddit, the context, and what I'm seeing in the text itself, there is strong evidence to suggest that OP used genAI to write (or edit) their post about how they fucked up by relying on genAI to do their coding.
The hypothetical fork may or may not be found in the kitchen.
βThe LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that heβs the most boring average person in the world. Itβs impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if sheβs female sheβs already SOMEthing, because sheβs not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male. You can see this all over but itβs weirdly prevalent in childrenβs entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, whoβs a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new charactersβ is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?β

the fact that we only have βherculean taskβ and βsisyphean taskβ feels so limiting. so hereβs a few more tasks for your repertoire
icarian task: when you have a task you know youβre going to fail at anyways, so why not have some fun with it before it all comes crashing down
cassandrean task: when you have to deal with people you KNOW wonβt listen to you, despite having accurate information, and having to watch them fumble about when you told them the solution from the start (most often witnessed in customer service)
feel free to chime in i ran out of ideas much faster than i anticipated
Promethean task: opposite of a Cassandraean task. You have the right information, and SOMEONE has to share it. But it's all in the delivery and if you're the person to identify the problem you WILL be hated forever.
Oedipal Task: (1) Attempting to avoid an unspeakably awful outcome and in doing so creating the circumstances that will bring it about. (2) Trying to solve an problem and discovering that you are in fact the problem you are trying to solve.
Odyssean task: youβll complete it but itβll take 20 times longer than it should and involve multiple side quests and mini-adventures
Ah feel 'sif an Odyssian task is basically a poor sod mid ADHD
A Pandorean task - just the act of starting it unleashes all manner of disasters.
damoclean task: the thing you've been putting off long enough that it becomes a constantly hanging doom over your head
pyrrhic task: you can get it done but it's going to cost you
medean task: you can get it done and you don't care what it costs you
dionysian task: task that might not be -better- if you do it drunk, but -will- definitely be more fun
hegelochic task: it was a simple job, but your name will be recorded in the annals of history for how impressively you fucked it up
task of theseus: a project for which the parameters have changed so many times that you're not sure it IS still the same task
gordian task: ok technically there Is a Right Way to do this but it's going to be fiddly and awful and take forever and what if. what if you just said fuck it. and started slicing
god that adhd struggle where you are so motivated to do something but there is just like. A Blockage In Your Body that stops the motivation from turning into anything. so you just like. vibrate. sitting there like yeah, man, i totally want to do that right now. (doesnβt)
i posted this image on twitter like actual ages ago but it just keeps getting more relevant
Tips for Describing Sensory Experiences
Sensory Focus: describing every single experience is going to overwhelm the reader. instead focus on those that stand out or actually advance the story.
Show, donβt tellβ¦ unless you should tell: yes, usually showing is better than telling, but not everything needs to be packaged in wonderful words and metaphors. if it has no grander impact other than context or setting the mood, you can just say that the character is cold
Narrative Focus: depending on the narrator, the focus might be on different things. This can be influenced by interests, fears, emotional state, experience, ... (For example, someone who enjoys art/architectue/ fashion/... will focus on that particular aspect of their surroundings...)
Noticeable Abnormality: people are creatures of habit, they are unlikely to take conscious notice of things that are the exact same way they always are. Focus rather on things sensory experiences that are unusual; like an unusual scent when coming into a room, unusual heat, a car that doesn't fit into this part of the city, ...
Emotional State: someoneβs emotional state is going to influence how well they pay attention to their surroundings and which details they focus on (For example, someone who is frantic might miss details)

The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it
On top of all of this, fucking everything needs a goddamn subscription and you have to hit it 20 times with a hammer for it to stop spying on you. Genuinely, where are we going with this? I'm one (1) AI update away from becoming an hermit technology wise
I block anyone in replies or reblog of this post that say this is the feeling of "getting old" in bad faith because I'm not having this conversation with however old the child or the troll saying it is. Like this is a screenshot of my Instagram feed today, asking me if I'm interested in the post of an account I literally follow, because following the account is no longer what qualify that it's content should be on my feed, the algorithm does. And that's how every social media work nowadays EXCEPT Tumblr. I can tell you, this isn't normal because when I was in high school and Facebook, Snapchat & Instagram were JUST popping out, this just didn't exist. Instagram was for duckface pics and you had exactly what you followed on your feed. This doesn't even touch the fact that since TikTok arrived, reels have taken over instagram which was supposed to be the photos app, because of the Zukini's greed, and the fact that every 2 posts on your feed is either an ad, that is indistinguishable from an actual post so you can barely tell it between a post and an ad, or "suggested reels" because weither you want it or not you WILL have an algorithm. There is a whole enshittification not only technology but the internet, streaming and social media as a whole going on and I'm sorry you are too young to have known any better and I was too young when it started happening to do anything about it, but if your baby ass is gonna just try playing the generational card, while pointing fingers and laughing as if you aren't next, when I'm over here pointing out bullshit for the betterment of our future with technology, you gonna need to sit this one out and go do it somewhere other than on my post. Have fun at the kiddy table, the adults are trying to make sure we get actual innovation and not more enshittification over here
Op, I feel your anger. It's even more frustrating too because this dismissal is exactly what these tech companies want. They benefit directly from people hand-waving this away and saying "That's just getting older lol" when no, no it's not. Tech companies are very deliberately choosing to add algorithms that are meant to keep you engaged, keep you angry, make you anti-social, and for what? Stock portfolios? Money, more or less? And it is money: companies will pay for just the chance to make money, they just call it advertising. But in this case, it's more like cancer. The only ones guaranteed to make money in this setup are the tech companies who host these platforms.
But moreover, people young and old do not realize that they're playing into the hands of billionaires and techbros (not mutually exclusive) by dismissing this. They want us to not be aware of these things, they want us to be too busy fighting each other to be blind to the fact that their greed and their egos keep us all down. And yet all the money in the world isn't enough for a select few of these people: they need to win the minds of the people they oppress, by force if necessary. But this is a tangent for another time. Regardless of the reasons, billionaires and techbros have designed these technologies to make people addicted to them, with disastrous consequences socially, politically, and economically. It is all despicable.
I want to add something: it is a bad faith response now for a myriad of reasons to say "do your research," or more specifically, to "just google it." For starters, recognizing reliable sources out in the wild is a skill most people do not have, and it is all too common for people to forget about libraries for actual research, let alone have the literacy required to parse it. But then you have the enshittification of the internet through so-called AI "search engines" that 1) absolutely cannot parse ideas worth a damn and 2) give misinformation or disinformation (worst case scenarios) more often than not with damaging consequences to the brain should the outputs be completely trusted. On top of that, the companies that OWN these AI search engines want you to believe their outputs are reliable, and therefore are complicit in spreading both misinformation and disinformation.
Keep in mind that Google specifically has enjoyed a position of being THE search engine that people go to, so to violate the trust of a large chunk of the world in this manner and then claim no responsibility for its own product's outputs is insidious. And Google is not the only one to manipulate their position of trust for their bottom line, Microsoft is absolutely guilty of this too by shoving Copilot into the most well-known and (allegedly, now) user-friendly OSs, along with making it extremely difficult to get rid of. Microsoft absolutely does not want you turning it off and this shows in their UI design philosophy, i.e. how easy they make it to do specific things. On Windows 10, they hide genAI settings behind four or five menus just to discourage turning it off. This in particular is one of the major reasons I dread having to get a new laptop even though mine is on its deathbed, and I can only imagine how much worse this situation is for people not equipped to navigate this nightmare.
Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
Reblog to shrimp check your mutuals

i've been watching the japanese dub of yugioh dm for the first time and it's somehow even gayer than the 4kids dub. the dialogue here has been only slightly altered for comedic effect, lmao.

Not "The Character did nothing wrong" or "The Character is irredeemably awful" but a secret third thing: The Character may display moments of deep love & compassion, may even have a strong sense of ethics, and may also be capable of brutal cruelty that is irreconcilable with those traits. The constant tension between the different sides of The Character's nature is exactly what makes them compelling, and attempting to reduce them down to simply "a terrible person" or "innocent & misunderstood" is missing the point of the questions a media with nuanced characters is asking you to consider
