The episode where Nick and Monroe literally roll around, playing and pinning each other in the woods—"I told you to meet me, not eat me!"—then Nick comes home horny to Juliette only for her to go "Let's invite Monroe over for dinner 😊" then Nick runs back to Monroe freaking out about having to lie about their "relationship" while Monroe is just like "Is she a good cook?" is so good.
The entire awkward, blushy dance they have to do when Monroe comes over all groomed and dorky, then the struggle to get their stories straight while Juliette is confused and suspicious is so good.

she existed for almost a year and spent that time building a life with her friends. they probably had inside jokes, shared meals, late night conversations. so, so much love.
and then she’s rebooted. not erased, not exactly. she keeps both sets of memories. and do we realize what that means? maybe they’ll explain it differently in the next episodes (like, her first set of memories was implanted only after she grew up or something), but from what they’ve shown us so far, the implications are so deep.
because that means she grows up knowing them.
can you imagine being five and already remembering your future best friends? being ten and knowing their voices, how they laugh? knowing that at seventeen you’ll walk back into starfleet academy and see them again, and for them it’s just a normal day after a couple of weeks?
there’s something devastating about that asymmetry. their reunion makes me tear up. she’s meeting them after a lifetime of waiting. she’s walking into a room at seventeen and seeing faces she’s known since before she learned to read. her entire life has been a countdown to this moment.
I feel like one of the biggest life hacks I've found after my twenties is that gravitating towards people who define themselves by what they love and are rather than what they oppose or aren't tends to lead to people who are more generally nice to be around
it’s actually really easy to satisfy audiences with Good Representation. you can’t depict someone struggling with their Otherness because that portrays it in a bad light but you have to depict them struggling with their Otherness because if you don’t, then you’re romanticizing how hard it is to be Othered. be super careful not to depict anything that might be adjacent to a common stereotype but if you go too far to avoid all stereotypes, then you’re still building the characters around stereotypes, which is a stereotype in its own way. if your storyline uses tropes, then it’s cliche, but if it avoids tropes, then it’s inauthentic. if you lampshade any of this, then you’re speaking down to your audience but if you don’t acknowledge this, you’re also speaking down to your audience. this is all really easy stuff i don’t know why people don’t get it.
That up there is what happens when people expect one piece of media to make up for decades or centuries of absent and/or bad representation. The best way to win that game is not to play.
I have a better idea. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself because you can't fix it all by yourself (and no one can)...
Flood the market. Make your thing and put it out there. With enough people putting their stuff out, everybody gets to be picky as fuck.
No one has to settle. No one has to scramble. We can all feast.
"I betrayed your trust, I betrayed our patients trust, it'll never happen again, I swear"
Cool
How about the fact that you endangered patients? How about the fact that you used Robby's trauma reaction as a weapon against him? How about your deliberate attempts to sabotage Santos's career?
And now you want his trust back just because you pinky promise you won't break it again? No mention of earning it back?
This is not an apology. This is reciting what he was told to recite.
There is nothing here that makes me think he understands the gravity of his actions and will work to be better.
He doesn’t need to know about the Shema. If I heard “he seemed to be talking to himself in the makeshift morgue,” my assumption would be that he was talking to the people he couldn’t save.
So, either that never occurred to Langdon, or it did, and he had no problem using his knowledge that Robby had a vulnerable moment to imply that he was mentally unstable.
And, again, it’s not just about what he said in the moment, it’s that not it wasn’t part of his apology.
Which tells me that he either didn’t bother to reflect on that confrontation, or that he did reflect, and hasn’t accepted that he has anything to apologize for.
Someone that willing to weaponize other people’s vulnerabilities does not belong in an ER.

“Let people enjoy things” and “we’re just playing dolls” are, in general, good approaches to take in fandom when you encounter someone interacting with your favorite media and characters in ways that you personally find objectionable, but they definitely do have limits. When people are “enjoying things” and “playing dolls” in ways that are genuinely disrespectful to my culture, fandom etiquette no longer applies.
Yes this is about The Pitt and the way that non-Jews in the fandom treat Robby.
From Official Star Trek Cooking Manual by Marry Ann Piccard
Vulcan traditional wedding cakes are literally carrot cakes, and Spocks' favourite dessert is carrot loaf? He's so cute what the hell, his favourite sweet is wedding cake? 😭
The real reason Sarek is so critical of Spock is he thinks humans are fucking terrifying. Like when his teeth fall out and are replaced by more teeth- what the hell!
Why do none of the human anatomy guides feel need to mention the teeth thing? They all omit it, as if every species does this, witch they do not, and now Sarek has a half human son with missing teeth-
And oh he’s freaking out because Amanda left him in charge of Spock while she went out, and now she’s going to come back and find out that somehow Sarek managed to make his sons tooth fall out!
So Amanda comes back to see a remarkably frazzled Sarek trying to put the tooth back in, and toddler Spock is not having it
I really wish that more pre-reform/pre-surak fics leaned into cyberpunk instead of going for "shirtless men with spears". Like if I'm being honest, it feels like people sometimes turn vulcans into the "noble savage" trope. Which is, I cannot stress this enough, very weird. You're writing about spacemen and you're somehow managing to be racist against native people. And like. I don't think it's deliberate, and I'm aware that this conception of vulcans has been around for decades and that many people have just kind of picked it up by osmosis, but. Like. It's not great. It is, dare I say, a little bit problematic. It also isn't at all accurate to canon? People just made that up. Because Surak died in the 4th century, just about 2000 years before canon, and do you know what his cause of death was? Radiation poisoning. When they say, "vulcans were extremely violent pre-reform, and nearly wiped themselves out," they don't mean they were having tribal battles on the backs of sehlats or whatever. They mean they were having nuclear warfare.

I've seen several cases where people are like "what happens if we meet aliens, and then they see Independence Day or War of the Worlds?"
But nobody seems to think about what happens when the aliens see Star Trek.
The aliens are gonna see these shows made by a bunch of humans but they put putty on some of the humans to make them look like what we think aliens might look like, and we told stories about how those aliens would be our friends and we'd explore the universe with them and find more aliens and try to be friends with them too!
Yeah sometimes they'd be mean and we'd fight but we'd always try to avoid it and even if we fought we'd try to be friends later.
We basically created 900 episodes of a child's drawing of a stick figure of a human and a stick figure of a grey alien holding hands and "best friends" written in crayon.

I'll love to read some star trek's original slash zines like it must be amazing to see who K/S have evolved over time, who it was perceived at the beginning...
This is my favorite kind of post >:) Since I was tagged, I'm going to drop some links for you! First, many thanks to @fanlore-wiki and OTW for all they do. None of this would be accessible if not for them <3
Here's a list of Ao3 links to individual authors who wrote fics in the 70s, 80s, and 90s! Names with a * are the most "iconic," aka who's works were most influential to the fandom.
April Valentine (80s)
Beverly Volker & Nancy Kippax (70s-80s)
Eileen R (70s-80s)
*Natasha Solten (80s)
Katharine Scarritt (80s)
Mary Lowe (80s)
CatalenaMara (80s)
Suzan Lovett (80s)
*Gayle Freyrer (70s-80s)
*Jenna Sinclair (80s-90s)
*Connie Faddis (70s-80s)
*Charlotte Frost (80s-90s)
Disclaimer: Most of these fics will not utilize Ao3's tagging system since they were imported from an archive, therefor you may encounter some dark themes such as noncon, major character death, etc. Formatting may also be slightly off.
More below the cut, including links to whole fanzines!

Available on The Internet Archive:
All of Spockanalia (late 60s, one of the first)
Contact #1 (1975)
Contact #3 (1977)
Alpha Continuum (four issues, 1976-80)
As I Do Thee (two issues, late 80s)
ScoTpress's archived site has hundreds (tip: you need to press the cover of each zine to access the PDFs. They look like images, but they're links!)
There are more if you search "star trek fanzine," but the search results aren't always perfect and are constantly changing :)
Next, here are some fanlore pages I recommend if you're interested in behind-the-scenes context or just browsing a selection of awesome art. These are well known zines with many publications and dozens of contributors:
Vault of Tomorrow (gen. '81-'88)
As I Do Thee 1-10 (slash, '84-'88)
As I Do Thee 11-21 (slash, '88-'94)
Naked Times 1-10 (slash, '78-'86)
Naked Times 11-20 (slash, '86-'88)
Naked Times 21-32 (slash, '88-'94)
Here is a comprehensive list of every known Star Trek slash zine, and fanlore's index of gen zines. I like the Strekzine Roster (much less overwhelming, strictly early zines) as well as fanlore's list of zines published between 1967-1970.
Lastly, here's a link to my INACTIVE tumblr blog's archive of digitally restored pages. I'm continuing that work here on my new blog :)
Have fun! My DMs are open if you have any questions!
