Many Western creators seem eager to deconstruct genres and mediums they never respected in the first place. That's why their parodies or attempts at parody often come across as shallow or dismissive.
That's also why, in my view, many Western visual novels fall flat. Too many people seem to assume that visual novels are just poorly written novels with graphics attached, rather than a distinct medium with its own conventions, strengths, and artistic possibilities.

Fortuneteller, turning over the Death card: Don't worry. It isn't literal. It simply refers to some form of change. Me: Phew Fortuneteller; turning over the Gets Eaten by the Fortuneteller While Trying to Leave card: That can also mean many things
Why Tumblr Has Rolled Out ID Verification
UK legislation: Online Safety Act 2023
Brazil legislation: Digital Statute For Children And Adolescents
Apple App Store Age Verification
These are not tumblr specific policies. Tumblr is implementing age verification in response to legislative moves that were made months ago.
Tumblr is a failing social media site that has escaped death multiple times already; they do not have the social cachet to defy state regulatory agencies. We know they won't say no to Apple, either--the porn ban on tumblr was in response to Apple's crackdown on explicit content.
If you did not know this was happening, you were behind the curve. That is fine. You're caught up now. The next step is to link up with people in your country who are working to preserve privacy, to roll back these laws where they exist, and to prevent their passage where they do not. In the US the organization you want is Stop KOSA--in the EU you can start with Fight Chat Control.
Repealing ID verification and blocking chat control will help everyone, especially the most vulnerable. We can push this back, but we cannot get it done through the Feedback form. We have to get it done at the legislative level and lock it down so it cannot be forced upon us. I see lots of anger out there. Good. Put it to use.

"Loving Day" celebrates the historic ruling in Loving v. Virginia, which declared unconstitutional a Virginia law prohibiting mixed-race ma
Coincidentally, today is Valentine's Day in Brazil. â¤ď¸đ§đˇ
This was only 55 years ago. You can understand a lot of whatâs wrong with the US if you realize that the average age of our elected senators is about 63. âGood old daysâ is a dogwhistle.
Our current Supreme Court mightâve ruled against the Lovings.
[Image ID: excerpts from the article linked above, reading:
âThe couple is given a choice: flee or go to jail. After they were arrested, the Lovings were sentenced to a year in prison. Then, a judge offered them a choice: banishment from the state or prison. They chose to leave Virginia at the time, but after several years, the Lovings asked the American Civil Liberties Union to take their case.Bernard Cohen and Philip Hirschkop, two young ACLU lawyers at the time, did.â
and âOn June 12, 1967, the U.S. Supreme Court justices ruled in the Lovings' favor. The unanimous decision upheld that distinctions drawn based on race were not constitutional. The court's decision made it clear that Virginia's anti-miscegenation law violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.â /end ID]
It was 55 years ago.
My father just had his 70th birthday.
When my parents first met it'd been less than a decade since the ruling was official.
They were convinced it'd be overturned and did not want their children to have to suffer for it, so they did not get married and searched desperately for each other in their own races. They could not find the love they had together in anyone else. They did eventually get married.
Too late for them to have the amount of children they'd desired. They had two, adopted a third, and that was that.
It was near enough to now that I, my sisters, and my parents were directly affected by it.
This isn't ancient history. It's just my parents' childhood.
As a mixed Asian person married to a mixed Black person rulings like this, along with violent backlashes against race mixing are barely recent history. Living in Texas we still run into people who actively harass us for being a mixed race couple in public (even though neither of us are white) The Loving Case and subsequent reactions to it by different states determined where my in-laws chose to settle in the US as a mixed couple. Several states kept anti-miscegenation laws on the books. and State judges in Alabama continued to enforce its anti-miscegenation statute until 1970, when the Nixon administration obtained a ruling from a U.S. District Court in United States v. Brittain.
The Watsonville riots of the 1930's where white mobs attached Filipino farmworkers for being seen in dancehalls with white women, are part of a very long history of whiteness violently asserting its need to "protect" the purity of it's women and future children. And these kinds of backlashes are not in the past, we've just moved to different battlegrounds, the same accusations, of defiling the purity of white womanhood and white childhood are now leveled at the dangerous "othering influences" through book bans and other right wing conservative censorship efforts.
According to PEN Americaâs Banned Book Index, 41% of banned books include LGBTQ+ themes. 40% feature characters of color and 21% address issues of race or racism.
Remember, if we don't keep standing up loudly for equality the biggots on the right will be louder and keep dragging us further backwards from every step towards equality we make.
That's why I write stories for mixed, brown, bi, folks to see ourselves and our loves reflected in.
Its important to record ourselves into literature, into history so that they can never fully erase us no matter how hard they try to stamp us out of existence.
I was in kindergarten when this happened. Star Trek was in its second season. Scooby Doo was just a few sketches in a notebook somewhere. My neighborhood was redlined. I wouldn't see a Black clerk in the mall for several years. This is the bullshit they want to go back to.

How I Modify My Google Doc for Outlining and Drafting
I previously talked about setting up my document to look like a formatted paperback book to help writing not feel so daunting.
Today, I bring you a different way I change my document that is more appealing to me than the standard Doc.
For Drafts
first, go to Page Set Up
this is what the default is
For my setup: Margins will change to .5" for top, bottom, left, and right.
this is the page color I chose but it's totally optional.
Then, I change my default font. Here is how to find the ones I like. Go to the font option, then click More fonts.
These are the fonts I love. You can search them or browse for ones you like.
next, i change my first-line paragraph indent to .25"
For Outlining
(and also character profiles, world-building, etc.)
You are going to follow the same steps as above first. The only difference is you don't need to mess with any of the indent settings.
I use boxes as dividers and organizers. To do this, go to Insert > Table > 1x1.
Then, change the border thickness to 2.25pt. I usually have a color palette for these, so I'm choosing a darker brown than the background for the borders. But white paper and black table lines work just as well and are more print-friendly ;)
Next, I change the Headings, Subheadings, and Subtitles. To begin, I am changing my Title heading. I choose my font, how big I want it to be, and then I like using a highlight color as well. Here, I'm using a standard light/pastel color and 18pt font.
Highlight to select this new title. Go to the dropdown menu that says "normal text", hover over "Title", then choose "Update 'Title' to Match". Now you can click that every time with no hassle. And it will begin an outline for you to the left.
Let's make that box within a box! Make sure you are typing inside the first box. Then insert another table. I am going to use a 2x3.
Because this table is more than one cell, you can go to the three dots up top and click "Table Options" to change every table border selected at once. Again, 2.25pt with the same color as before. The cell background color says white but you don't have to change it to match the page color.
You can save both your Heading preferences and page setup as your default style. Every new document you make will use these settings automatically.
I really hope this was helpful and/or interesting!
As always, take what you want and leave the rest. Happy writing!
[call it good] writing
