I'm really tired of people outside the UK claiming that JK Rowling's bigotry doesn't extend to trans men and non-binary people. I can't get an autism diagnosis, because I'm scared that it will be used against me to deny me the healthcare I need, as Rowling and her ilk have been spreading the rhetoric that transmascs are just confused autistic girls who are too stupid to know their own gender.

Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.

I'm in a little local cafe and the women behind the counter started griping to each other, "Oh Christ, Stephen's back again," "It's him, is it? Also, I continue to BEG these creators to do a SMIDGE of research before they open their fucking mouths because the etymology/concept of "orchestra" actually dates back to Ancient Greece around the time that Homer was writing the Illiad and the Odyssey to the word ὀρχήστρα (orkhēstra). It literally refers to the semi circular space where theater and dance were performed. So no, maybe not musical groups specifically as we think of them today with string instruments, woodwinds, and percussion (that wasn't until about the 1600s CE), but just saying "it's not like the orchestra existed back then" when the idea literally dates back to the time period you're referencing and there also were musical productions of the time that just used different words is so fucking infuriating.
I'm just... So fucking mad. Everything Christopher Nolan and his team doing is so disrespectful to the original story. And that's the thing too. It's not like it's a book where it's like one or two people's ideas on a page and you can go "oh wow I don't agree with the way this person views the world or that idea at all" and then put the book down and move on with your life. It's taking probably hundreds if not over a thousand people to make this movie. And no one tried to stop any of this from happening??? How do you get to this point of ignorance with that many people on your team?

Suicide autonomy anon reminded me;
I was also suicidal for most my life up until last year-ish. Things did get better for me, but that ask reminded me a lot of the times I was being threatened with forced hospitalization.
I learned to avoid it because I knew being put in a ward would've traumatized me even if the staff was "good", because I already struggle heavily with loss or control to any capacity (which to me is a very normal human reaction). They left me alone if I promised not to kill myself. It never did anything besides instill in me that I cannot trust my therapist with my unfiltered experience. I guess I avoided forms of self harm that would've left visible marks because of it, but telling people that they have to stay alive or be forcibly hospitalized does absolutely nothing to help them.
It might sound harsh to people but I do 100% agree that society needs to accept the risk that giving people full autonomy means people might use that to kill themselves.
Yes!!! The threat of forced institutionalization is an additional stressor to manage and being forcibly locked up is usually an additional trauma to cope with. None of it actually resolves suicidal ideation or improves quality of life.

this is apparently a very hot take but i support people’s autonomy to kill themselves. a lot of people get angry when i say that tho. like im coming from the perspective of a formerly & recently suicidal person. things got better for me but thats not always whats gonna happen for people and i think anyone should be able to take themselves out of situations that arent going to get better. obvious unspoken nuance here but do you get what i mean?
I mean yeah if it's a question of systematically denying people basic bodily autonomy and traumatizing them further in the process of keeping them alive by all means possible and potentially "allowing" people to kill themselves I think we as a society need to be willing to risk that some people might kill themselves. I don't think bodily autonomy should come with exceptions. And locking people up against their will actually only increases suicide risk long term as it's usually a very traumatizing experience and doesn't actually resolve any of the reasons why these people want to die.

i feel so defensive and protective of people with ARFID like if i had a disorder that made my brain register 90% of food as poison for no reason and i had a bazillion people on the internet constantly calling me a manchild who needs to just grow up and stop being a picky eater i would start killing people
people with ARFID and people with very few autism safe foods and people with contamination OCD and people in ED recovery and everyone else with a complicated relationship with food that no one takes seriously GET BEHIND ME!!!!!!!

what people don’t understand about how adhd is disabling is that it’s not just getting temporarily distracted from, like, school work or hobbies. it’s getting distracted/being unable to motivate yourself to go to the doctor, eat regularly, do hygiene tasks, etc. it’s not knowing when or how long it will take you to do something, ANYTHING, and in many cases that thing is taking a shower or keeping your house from turning into a biohazard. it’s about being fundamentally incapable of controlling your attention and focus on anything, even and especially things you need to do to survive.
