I have been informed that today is International Donut Day (June 5). So here's a picture of my Jelly Donut dressed as a donut for her first Halloween.
i have literally never fallen in battle. only tripped gracefully with tasteful panty shot

She had me at Fools Court. No explanation needed; if there's shenanigans, I'm your girl.
ALAS, shenanigans didn't happen. Pointy hats showed up and made it a Royal Progress rather than the planned below the salt event. It was still delightful to see my friends, though.
It's sad when pointy hats kill the fun instead of embracing it.
I'm thinking of the Queen of the East a few years ago who decreed that ABBA was period. There were sooooo many songs written that year (and the East is a bardic heavy kingdom).
I have HEARD about this. I also have one of those songs on my SCA playlist.
In defense of the Crown - they didn't kill the fun. Originally, the event wasn't going to have a Court (Baronial or otherwise) which was why the organizers had planned a Fools Court. Well, business had to happen because of schedules and availability which turned the event into a Royal Progress, and the organizers read the room and decided that a Fools Court wasn't gonna work with the changes that needed to be accommodated.
I'm sad that the original vision of the event wasn't realized, but I'm happy for the people who were recognized appropriately for their contributions to the Kingdom.
And I still want a Fools Court.
Not letting this go by without plugging some of the filk in question. <3
So, I got to return to the SCA and my kingdom with both feet yesterday at Bjorn’s Ceilidh up at our second home, Concordia of the Snows. I p
This filk was written to honor SCA volunteers who offer service. I’ve learned from my friends who do service that it is often a war between

Here's all the medieval pride flag personas I've drawn over the past year, I have some more in the works so keep an eye out hehe
not every mutual fits neatly into an archetypal medievalism but there are some mutuals that im like yeah addressing you as “my liege” would come strangely naturally
what mutual is prev
my liege lord
my loyal knight
my wise wizard
my evil advisor
my brother in arms
my lady muse
my wild mermaid friend
my fellow alchemist
my dashing rapscallion
my monstrous foe

the clanging of his armored ass cheeks brought down the walls of many a castle
From The Book of Chivalry of Geoffroi de Charny (~1350), complaining about Knights These Days
And they are dressed in such an indecent way that that which everyone ought to be most ashamed to show is what they show all the time to those who want to look, for they cannot refrain from showing their backsides to whoever wants to see them.
What is more, it is not enough for them to be as God made them; they are not content with themselves as they are, but they gird themselves up and so rein themselves in round the middle of their bodies that they seek to deny the existence of the stomachs which God has given them: they want to pretend that they have not and never have had one, and everyone knows that the opposite is true.

Our barony of Aarnimetsä here in Drachenwald has Guild of the Golden Dove (not 100% on the translation – it's "Kultaisen kyyhkyn ritaikunta" in Finnish). It's people who basically volunteer to be emotional support scadians 😄 Their Thing is helping newcomers: teaching SCA basics, showing newcomers around and maybe introducing them, sometimes sitting beside a first-timer at court and explaining what's going on...
I'm too new to have joined the guild yet (though gradually gaining enough SCA-knowledge to maybe feel confident to do so), but many of the members are my oldest dearest SCA friends precisely because of how welcoming they were when I was new a few years ago 😊
OMG I ADORE THIS! Your Barony is doing it right, and I can't wait for you to feel confident enough to participate with the Guild. I really hope that this catches on. We need more Emotional Support Scadians and we need to cheer them on with recognition for their service.
Ooooooo on the subject of Emotional Support Scadians, if there’s any Outlanders or potential Outlanders out there that need a little extra support, I LOVE helping new people out. (Chatelaine in all but name lol)
YES. MORE OF THIS. 💚💚💚
I love this being something different from Chatelaine, too. Like, yes, obviously EVERYONE is a Chatelaine, but also having someone who can be present for a new person in a more personal way is absolutely amazing.
I know you're in a different kingdom, so this is a bit of a longshot, but do you or your followers know anyone in the Barony of Thescorre? I just moved here and going on my own to anything they offer is just intimidating so I'm trying to find an emotional support scadian ♥♥
omg I love the idea of an emotional support Scadian. That needs to be a thing, now. We're going to make that a thing. I know there are folks from Æthelmearc around here, so this will hopefully be an easy arrangement for you. Until then, can I be considered your honorary Emotional Support Scadian?
I'm so excited for a commission I've just made, y'all.
I lost my furbaby, Tipitiwitchit, last August. She was almost 18 and had been in my life for over 17 years. She is my heart and soul, and I still desperately miss her. She was loved by a LOT of people, so I actually have several pieces of art that friends and family have given me of her through those many long years.
I'm moving in August and I plan to put together a gallery wall where I'll include in the display some of the framed pieces that I have of Tipi. In addition, I've commissioned a VERY talented scribe to write the Gaston de Foix quote, “the moost defaute of houndes is that thei lyven not longe inowe,” to include with it.
The thing I love most about this (aside from supporting an independent artist and fellow Scadian) is that everyone I've told my vision to loves the idea and is so supportive. She will be a part of my life in the form of the art that brings joy and her presence will make my house feel like home.

I just had to collect all of these responses together in one place
Edit: And one from my friend, who doesn't have a tumblr (yet)
#i keep waiting for someone to address the '18th century looms were huge' claim#like sure some were#but the fact that textile mills had been invented doesn't mean that all home weaving ceased#indeed people still weave for fun or profit in this the 21st century#smaller looms were still being built and used in the 18th century just as smaller looms are still being built and used today#and that's without considering the existence of inkle/tape/band looms which were/are used for making narrower woven ribbons for trimming etc#small 18th century looms absolutely exist
there are thousands of notes and a few people ABSOLUTELY addressed this xD
I wanna add mine! But it still has some assembling to do before I can move on to the next step
...Okay this place *is* better than Reddit.
My wife did a lot of hand crafts while we were dating. After we got engaged, my father piped up that at least she didn't have a spinning wheel. We put it in the doorway the first time my parents came to visit.
Her loom is packed away at the moment so she can work on an uncountable number of knitting projects and metalwork at the moment.
Fibercrafts.
Not even once. You start with "Oh, I'd love to learn the drop spindle" And the next minute your home office is occupied by a loom, you're planting flax in the garden, and considering the logistics of owning an alpaca.
