I will never understand the people who hate the books wholeheartedly and still watch the show, when the show is a page for page adaptation of the book. Like I get it, there are some things I don’t like in the book. But I have genuinely seen some takes that The Long Game is a “trashy” book and Jacob should write a new story altogether. Which is stupid, considering Jacob loves the books. Jacob is going to keep the storyline closer to the source material just like he did in season 1. Why would you expect him to change it exactly?
If one doesn’t like the storyline then maybe this fandom and these books aren’t just for them.
I think it's a combo of a few things
The books genuinely being very sparse and not written well. The early Game Changers books are very functional, and they're not written like novels really they're written---as I keep saying---like porn. (Although according to booktok standards some of the worst prose I've ever hacked my way through is apparently high art, so. People think the Time War book is good and it's one of the worst things I've ever read.)
People can't fucking read. Like I know this makes me sound like an old man but I swear to god, people can't read. They look at text and they sort of guess at what it means or are told what it says and just agree with it. There's a lot of false ideas floating around about what the books even say.
Distancing oneself from liking porn---the books are even more pornographic than the show, and the show can be passed off as sexy drama. Admitting you like the books is saying Yes. I liked this Porn.
Misogyny against a female creator
I think it's fair to not like the Ottawa plan or TLG and want to only engage with canon divergence fic or whatever, but I think it's pretty silly to imagine the show will diverge that dramatically. Maybe a bit, but who knows
