Saturday morning I went to my local grocery store to get some verduras, frutas, and huevos to feed my family. As I was picking my bananas I was taking my time to choose cause a lot of them were getting brown. A man who was also picking bananas made small talk with me about how bad the bananas looked. I don't mind talking to strangers typically, I actually think we should do it more because I don't like how we're often so disconnected. Anyway, then I moved on to apples. Later as I was getting some papas I saw him there next to me, again, staring at my body as if I was naked or something.. mind you I was wearing leggings with a long shirt to cover my butt. Didn't think much, so I kept walking. I walked over to get some dairy items and saw another man standing in the middle of the hallway staring me down, what looked like his wife and toddler were getting milk a few steps down. It made me feel very uncomfortable so I quickly walked into a random isle. At the end of that isle I saw the original man again, it seemed like he began to walk right behind me. I didn't want to assume or act paranoid so I walked faster into the cereal isle which was fine because I was thinking of getting that anyway. Then, I was in the frozen section getting some paletas, when the original asshole man stood right behind me, almost trapping me between the freezer door and his body. He jokingly/creepily said "parece que te estoy siguiendo, verdad?", before he could even finish what he said I nervously shook my arms and said loud enough for the señoras down the hallway to hear me "porque me está siguiendo!?" He reacted offended and as if I was overreacting. Screamed back at me saying "no te estoy siguiendo pinchi vieja..." and instinctively for some wild reason I started arguing in English and walking away saying that he was too close and didn't need to be staring at me... he made me feel like I was crazy for reacting to his stares and closeness.. I was scared not just because of him but because of the other man too and reacted. Was I wrong in doing that? My husband typically helps with groceries and I never get harassed like this while with him. (continued in comment below) (at Superior Grocers)
