31 hours deep into the insomniac’s gambit and i posted on the wrong blog again
How do you feel about driving?
I can drive, I am good at driving, I enjoy driving.
I can drive, I am good at driving, I do not enjoy driving.
I can drive, I am bad at driving, I enjoy driving.
I can drive, I am bad at driving, I do not enjoy driving.
I haven't learned to drive, I think I would enjoy driving.
I haven't learned to drive, I do not think I would enjoy driving.
I can't drive anymore, I was good at it, I enjoyed driving.
I can't drive anymore, I was good at it, I didn't enjoy it.
I can't drive anymore, I was bad at it, I enjoyed it.
I can't drive anymore, I was bad at it, I didn't enjoy it.
@elodieunderglass #I can’t drive any more (never got a driving license in the country I immigrated to)#I think I was bad at it (thought I was good but upon emigrating to the UK#realized I was NOT on their level and probably never would be. British drivers have the wildest shit going on at all times and take it in#their stride in the full expectation of everyone else being fairly competent and well-informed. there’s incredibly high expectations#and like. the basic level of performance is already high. everyone is so alert and attentive and it all operates on very thin margins#because of this collective expectation. I do not want to do any of this I do not want to play. thanks.#but I enjoyed it in the USA. I thought I was good! I was having a good time! I took on some decent challenges . can drive in a blizzard etc#but I cannot handle the thing British people do when there’s 2 cars encountering each other going either way on a single lane country road#and one of you has to reverse all the way to the most recent lay-by which you were supposed to have clocked and tuck yourself into it so#they can pass you and everyone else knows which car is supposed to be the one to reverse (there’s always a hill involved also) and PARALELL#PARK IN A FUCKING HEDGE. ramming and wedging the car into brambles and trees#often reversing for A VERY LONG WAY UP A HILL. while the opposing car advances on you pointedly staring at you implying that you’re fucking#up a perfectly easy job that a child should be able to do. there’s complex algorithms determining who has to back up and I cannot remember#how it works but you aren’t allowed to burst into tears and beg for a pass. you must be very brave and intentional and try to remember#the most recent lay-by. which will literally be a small invisible notch in a hedge. with a rock hidden under it that will go GRAUNCH on the#undercarriage. anyway#once my husband was trying to give me a driving lesson and this happened to me except the oncoming vehicle was a big fuckin tractor#and I simply got out of the car. i was like: i cannot do this. it is not in me.#(I was trying to learn how to drive stick shift also. there is a thing on hills about clutch control.) I simply said: I can do a lot of#things with competence and clarity. and this is not one of them. got out of the car. tractor driver staring at me in disbelief. dr glass#ceremonially swapped seats. it’s notable that the car was a 1990s bright orange Fiat seven to#which is a car that you could basically get out of and pick up in your arms like a pumpkin and carry it home if you had to. dr glass was#always doing some bullshit with that car. he could park it in non-Euclidean geometries. it practically folded up like one of those scooters.#the Fiat seicento is basically carryon luggage. you can fit it in the overhead compartment no problem. you can mail it as a Small Parcel#if you can’t find a parking space you can usually fit a Fiat seicento in a bike rack or between the pages of a book or magazine#anyway. I wasn’t up to this challenge on that day and I felt no shame. dr glass swapped seats with me. the farmer radiated judgment.#dr glass reversed uphill until he was able to slip the car into the space between a rabbit’s breath and its next move#and the tractor passed us and I did not really ever have any confidence in my driving again.#so no. I don’t think I’m very good at driving and I don’t want to be.
“Pratchett went back to older throwaway jokes (like dwarves being apparently unisex) and used them as metaphors to discuss social change, racial assimilation, and other complex issues, while reexamining the species he’d thrown in at the margins of his world simply because they existed at the margins of every other fantasy universe. If goblins and orcs and trolls could think, then why were they always just there to be slaughtered by the heroes? And if the heroes slaughtered sentient beings en masse, how heroic exactly were they? It was a long overdue start on redressing issues long swept under the rug by a parade of Tolkien successors who never thought of anyone green and slimy as anything but a notch on the protagonist’s sword, and much of the urgency in Pratchett’s last few books seemed to be related to them. ‘There’s only one true evil in the world,’ he said through his characters. ‘And that’s treating people like they were things.’ And in the last of his ‘grown-up’ Discworld books, that idea is shouted with the ferocity of those who have only a few words left and want to make them count. Goblins are people. Golems are people. Dwarves are people, and they do not become any less people because they decide to go by the gender they know themselves to be instead of the one society forces on them. Even trains might be people, and you’ll never know one way or the other unless you ask them, because treating someone like they’re a person and not a thing should be your default. And the only people who cling to tradition at the expense of real people are sad, angry dwellers in the darkness who don’t even understand how pathetic they are, clutching and grasping at the things they remember without ever understanding that the world was never that simple to begin with. The future is bright, it is shining, and it belongs to everyone.”

Can anyone explain wtf is going on here especially a Korean speaker
someone on reddit explained 😭
That is one of the most astronomical fuck up translations I have ever seen.
this is sort of sickening to me. can they swap
Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.
Hit "view post" and lost it
listening to fleetwood mac is like. i don’t know this song but let’s give it a shot. oh wait i do know this song. i’ve heard it a million times and always liked it, i just didn’t know the name. on some level i kind of assumed that song was just an ambient part of the world the way the sound of the wind or birdsong in the trees was but apparently it’s by fleetwood mac. neat.
you make one fucking post where the point is “women are encouraged to develop disordered eating from a very young age and that impacts how we view the ‘natural’ size and shape of women” and too many reblogs later i am being accused of saying short people wouldn’t exist if they ate better growing up. i’m sorry but if you genuinely think i was saying that you are just a buffoon. i cannot and will not sanction your buffoonery.

weird as hell, thank you for asking
project hail mary is a touching and poignant film that leaves you asking questions about humanity like, "wow what if all mainstream media was genuinely good" and "what if book adaptions actually gave a shit about the book in question" and "what if studios hired actors that could actually act, and then let them get a lil wacky with it"

Everyone go look up the song nasa banned from space
Don't forget to play it loud as fuck
please….listen to the whole thing. And imagine that you are IN SPACE in 1973 and you JUST woke up. Every time you adjust…it escalates somehow.
This song had to be designed in a lab for the sole purpose of fucking with astronauts. whoever added it to the NASA playlist was a genius.
It took them two tries to ban it?
one normal day in british politics that’s all i ask for . will never happen
