This is an awesome use of what is probably a master's degree if not a doctorate and I am 100% thrilled that she shared it even though it was embarrassing and she squeaked.
Thank you, adorable scientist, for making people's lives better.
As an Australian, THIS WOMAN IS A FUCKING GODSEND.
this is Hannah Fry, Professor of the Public Understanding of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and president of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
im not a particularly religious person but something about the way "to love another person is to see the face of god" slowly fades out and the ensemble comes in softly with "do you hear the people sing" without instrumentation. something about "even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise." sang by the people who died fighting for something they believed in. for three minutes fifty nine seconds I'm a believer
it's so funny how the mcu has so closely replicated the comics fan experience of like, "don't worry about like the plots. the things happening are like 90% really stupid, you just have to accept that. the meat is in the character writing. which is unfortunately also bad."
"and in order for half of it to make sense you had to have gotten into it many years ago and kept up with the homework"
"Blorbo is my favorite character! He has 89,324 appearances spanning decades!"
"Great! What do you recommend?"
"One writer in mid-2014 had like, half a plot that was great before it was handed off to someone who hated him and possibly had a vendetta against the art director. But man, a great 2-3 months of real character stuff there."
terrifying when you watch a movie or a show or whatever & youre like that was fun but it felt a little redundant they didnt need to hammer the point home that much & then you go online & theres thousands of people going that was so weird i did not get it what did that mean google.com ending explained please?

You are 60% water and every lake, river, pond, swamp, creek, and ocean you encounter wants to reclaim it desperately. Be careful out there.
Good, I hope it haunts everyone about to enter a body of water so bad that they wear a life jacket. π
Every single person I knew (past tense) who has drowned was "a strong swimmer." Water in the wild does not care how good you are at swimming.
I mean this with all due respect:
You are not going to pass a skillcheck against a rip current once it has you.
Waves will not bow to your physical prowess no matter how impressive.
Shock does not care that you used to be on your school swim team.
If you hit your head, being good at swimming isn't going to turn you face-up while you're unconscious.
You may be unable to return to shore. Rescue may be unable to find you quickly.
Scheduling this for when weather starts warming up. Be careful swimming this summer
Making exercises more accessible to the disabled? Fuck yeah!
A Group Which Almost Became HistoricΒ
It's been over a decade since I first read Les Mis, and first drew this, (which still floats around in reblogs, the original post now being deleted with my old blog) and I thought I ought to finish this for Barricade Day. At the time, that illustration was the most ambitious I had ever drawn.
In the last ten years, Les Mis has perhaps felt more pertinent than ever. In Australia, where I live, bigoted, far-right political parties that were previously considered fringe are leading polls on the back of racist, anti-immigration rhetoric. I donate regularly to a charity that supports refugees that is local to me, the Asylum Seeker Resource Center, and am going to do so again today. I encourage you to do the same, either to the ASRC, or to an equivalent charity in your area.
"So long as there shall exist, by virtue of law and custom, decrees of damnation pronounced by society, artificially creating hells amid the civilization of earth... books of the nature of Les MisΓ©rables cannot fail to be of use." β Victor Hugo
I'm at the laundromat drinking an expired Mountain Dew from the vending machine, which is basically the me version of being a frog on a lily pad.

Why are all music teachers like this πππ
THEY ARE
when i was 8 i had a very intimidating russian woman as a music teacher- she was both my opera instructor and piano teacher. about a month into piano, she sat me down and said to my mother and i "this child- very beautiful voice, good for singing. i will not allow this child to continue piano. god did not want this child to play an instrument. he told me this in dreams. that is all."
my mom had it written down on a slip so we could remember the exact words because it was so funny. i HATED playing piano and i was definitely not good at it (i did end up having a good 5 years of opera training and ended up being a pretty accomplished choir singer though) and the idea of god sending my incredibly severe and serious russian piano teacher a dream begging her to stop teaching me piano was probably the funniest way it could have gone.

ADHD affects how I experience time, not how I experience attachment. I love you. I miss you. I just don't realize how long itβs been since I last said that, let alone messaged.
I understand that most normal functioning brains need regular engagement to maintain a bond. Absence doesnβt diminish my affection. My silence isnβt neglect or disinterest. Itβs time blindness and object impermanence. The contact gap is purely neurological, not emotional. Thank you for being patient with my inconsistency and holding a seat in your heart for me.
