Tinglepost 403: Widow's Gay
I'll get this out of the way first, I haven't watched the show, so my review is limited in its value because I am surely missing important context.
That being said, this isn't like, for example, "Stranger Pounds" where I really felt all the references I surely wasn't getting. While I would surely enjoy it in a different way if I had the full context, this is a fun enough story that I enjoy it on its merits as its own tingler.Â
Whether or not he's a reference to an existing character, the protagonist of this one, the mayor of Widow's Gay, has a kind of personality I've been seeing a lot in tinglers lately. He's an optimistic person to such an extreme that he illustrates the limits of positive thinking.Â
It makes sense that this kind of character- positive in a toxic or unrealistic way- comes up in different forms in Dr. Tingle's writing. The world's greatest author himself and his art are a strong positive force in this world. Yet, he shares a world with people who turn their positivity into unrealistic magical thinking, be they proponents of manifesting or preachers of prosperity gospel.Â
Such a character is perfectly suited for the classic set-up present in many tinglers, of the protagonist primed to ignore the problem he will face, until it escalates to the point where he must take action. This one escalates to something in the neighborhood of a fuck-or-die scenario (though, unlike the usual spins on that erotica trope, this is one that's unambiguously consensual for both parties despite the initial pressure). Most importantly for me, this tingler has one of my favorite things in all of the Tingleverse. Sex with a living object so large that their anatomy must be navigated like a location! It's a particularly exciting example of this type of Tingleverse sex scene, that fittingly caps off the escalating action of the story.
