harry strolls up to ravi with a funny look and he's like soooo i heard may had coffee with this nurse and ravi who is entirely ambivalent to harrys one-sided half-hearted misplaced beef says yeah she had fun. harry says you weren't listening may went out with a guy. and had a great time. ravi says yes she did and she brought me back a coffee but it sucked. the guy was really nice. his name is ian. harry says oh you met the guy? and you're not intimidated? and ravi gets this sparkle in his eye and says nah i made him good coffee this morning and he was really cool. this morning? ravi just smirks at him. you made him coffee this morning? what do you mean? what do you mean ravi? then harry punches him in the face

I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with relating to characters, “they’re literally me” etc but if that’s the only way you engage with stories you’re kinda missing the whole point of Characters being vehicles through which we can see perspectives outside of our own. and also you’re going to get upset when the Character acts in a way that is not Personally Relatable to You

doubly for shipping. at risk if biting the hand that feeds me, a well written fictional relationship should ideally be more than a didactic template for how to have a nice relationship
