“Blood is thicker than water. That's what people say. They say that family comes first. That no matter what you should stick with them~ have faith in them, be loyal to them. Of course there can be tension sometimes or even fights between family members, but it's easy to get past them, because...well...blood is thicker than water... right?”
The three men were sitting as far from each other as possible. No one spoke. They were just staring each other down. No one wanted to be the first to break the silence. In their minds the one who'd speak first would be losing to the other two. So they were waiting, as the tension in the room was getting thicker~ so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Well, it was always like that for the three brothers. Even as kids they didn't get along, they didn't play together. They were almost raised to resent each other. No matter how much it pained their mother, it was inevitable.
Hakyeon. Songkang. Rowoon.
Three strangers that happened to share some of the same DNA.
"Aren't you going to greet as, brother?" Hakyeon, the oldest, finally broke the silence turning to look at Rowoon, his half brother and the younger out of the three siblings, "it's been years since the last time we saw each other but from what I can see you're still the same. Hasn't the man you call father taught you anything about manners?"
Rowoon makes sure to not let any emotions show to his face, the only sign that he's affected by Hakyeon's words being his now clenched fists. "I've been taught about manners and respect, brother. And how I should be respectful only towards the ones who deserve it. I hope you're not fooling yourself by thinking that you are one of those people".
"Such an ungrateful brat" Kang, Rowoon's other half brother said not even trying to hide the venom in his voice, "the only reason you're here, the only you grew up with all those privileges is because of my father. But of course", he adds letting out an ironic chuckle, his dark eyes reflecting true hatred, "how could I forget? You're still the son of his murderer, right?"
Rowoon stayed in silence. There wasn't a point in even trying to defend his father. Not because he thought he's guilty~ as for that he really didn't know anymore. Since the accident that killed his mother's first husband and father of the other two, when he was a teenager, he'd heard countless of accusations about him and his father. And even though back then he'd even get to physical fights to defend him, as he grew older he started to have his own doubts, causing him to stay away from both of his parents and basically being all alone.
"Kang, enough", Hakyeon said stopping his brother from continuing. Out of the two brothers Kang was the more reasonable, but not when it came to that subject. It's been years that Kang and Rowoon fight because of their fathers and what happened that day, and Hakyeon was always the one to break their fights. Not because he thought that his mother's second husband was innocent, but because deep down he knew that his other brother had nothing to do with everything and it's unfair to accuse him as well. "There's no point in bringing that up or accusing anyone. They never found proof about the person who caused the accident and there's something more important to discuss now". Turning to Rowoon, he crossed his arms in front of his chest, "someone stole something very important to me~ to us".
"And do you think I did it?" the younger brother asked calmly, raising his eyebrow. He's so used to being his older brothers' target so nothing they'd say could affect him~ not anymore.
Hakyeon shook his head while taking a flash drive out of his pocket and passed it to Rowoon, who immediately took it, got up and went to the office so he could check its content on his computer. "I'm just stating a fact brother. There's no need to be so sensitive..."
Rowoon didn't even bother to respond, silence filling the room while he was looking up what's in the flash drive, the more he read the more his eyebrows furrowed. That was more serious than he thought. As he finished reading he finally looked back at the other males. "I understand. But what do you want from me?"
"I thought you're smarter than that" Kang scoffed as the door opened and his right hand man came in with a pile of papers. "Is everything ready Baek?" he asked taking the pile and reading quickly through it."Yes, I've arranged everything" Baekhyun replied before looking over at Rowoon, his lips turning upward to his usual smirk, "it's been a while since the last time I saw you handsome. Looking better than ever. Is this the glow up of love?"
"And what do you know about that kind of glow up? I don't think you even have the word love in your vocabulary" Rowoon replied and shrugged, taking the flash drive with him as he went back to his seat.
"Enough~" Hakyeon said before Baekhyun had the chance to respond. He rarely needed to raise his voice, and that time wasn't an exception. That one word was enough to stop the conversation. "We're not here to chitchat about Rowoon's or anyone else's love life".
That caused Rowoon to sigh, feeling that his brothers arrival and the whole conversation was mentally and emotionally draining him. "I've already asked you... Why are you here exactly?"
Hakyeon's lips formed a smug smile. He might had a lot in his mind with the thief and everything else, but at least he was enjoying that part. Because he knew how much Rowoon would hate it. "But it's obvious brother. Our house is out of town. So until we find the thief we'll stay here".
"Yes~" Kang adds with a sinister smile, "we're your new roommates"
