like at this point i’m getting radicalized against the entire fertility industry including ivf. it’s misogynistic and anti-child. no one is entitled to biological offspring. if you’re infertile or in a relationship in which pregnancy can’t occur naturally that’s just too fucking bad. life sucks sometimes. i think one of the ways to address this need to have kids and feel like you’re ~passing something on~ is to reframe our understanding of the family and develop a more communal approach to child rearing where appropriate. if we all learn to consider the ways we contribute to the development and growth of the children in our lives maybe we won’t feel as compelled to have our own. there is so much about the fertility industry, the adoption industry, abortion bans and restrictions on birth control, poor maternal health care, poverty, lack of access to mental health and addiction treatment that keep women in a subservient position re: her reproduction and turns children into commodities of which there is a surplus, because everyone wants babies but children are only babies for a short time. idk i’ve lost the plot of this post lol all this to say our approach to reproduction, parenthood, and family need to be radically realigned so that it honors the humanity of women and children because as it stands both are resources and things to acquire.
