I have, sometimes it really is just a phase and I stick around. I’ve been the friend in crisis. However, I realized about a year ago that I don’t want to be friends with people who solely bond over misery. And I had many connections like this that I eventually had to distance myself from. My friendships are built on the full spectrum of human emotion. If I feel cornered into experiencing only the same 2-3 emotions with someone then, even if there is love, it won’t last. My life is rapidly changing all of the time. I need friends who can separately keep up in their own lives.

Many people are not adept at switching between those roles and therefore their values and opinions feel aggressive and unearned. I care deeply about dialogue and tact in ways that you earn with experience and age.

If your solution to some problem relies on “If everyone would just…” then you do not have a solution. Everyone is not going to just. At not time in the history of the universe has everyone just, and they’re not going to start now.
