We’ve talked at length today about Ilya’s horrific childhood but can we re-centre the unrestrained joy of a man who never truly got to be a child, falling in love with the safest man in the world, who also never truly got to be a kid, and both of them learning to play again? Silly roleplay, doing bits, making inside jokes, wrestling each other and playing video games and chasing each other throughout the cottage with a towel for Butt Whoopin’. Laughing like maniacs. MRI machines and cooling units and AC and IT systems in hospitals are breaking due to the heat. Lab equipment is failing. Some cancer treatments cannot be done due to machine failures. A&E overcrowding is worse due to heat related health issues and sheer amount of people is making the heat in hospitals worse (and the AC! Is breaking!) Patients with appointments are being advised to bring in "a lot" of water with them to be able to safely attend. Fans cannot be used in hospitals. Norwich has no functuoning MRI scanners right now. And the staff have to keep working through all of this, they are getting ill and sleep deprived which is compounding issues further. This is not normal 👍

Really weird feeling to spend years reading a webcomic only to get frog-boiled as the story starts to go downhill but you can't break the reflexive habit of reading checking the website until one day you realize that now you're hate-reading it, which sucks!!! Hate-reading is bad for you!! Don't do it! Bah!!!

Little bite-sized snippets of regularly-scheduled stories are great nourishment for the media gnomes that live in your brain, but hate-reading is toxic to them!! And it's very important to take good care of the media gnomes!! If your media gnomes get sick you might end up doing things like posting water-filter screenshots of blogs that you've blocked or getting mad at TV showrunners like they're your dad or doing kiwifarms stuff

There is a very delicate line between being a Hater (mirthful, no personal stakes, titillating to the gnomes) and being a Hater (resentful, jilted, bad for the gnomes). Unfortunately I always have a hard time telling telling which side I'm on so I think it's better for me to just not do it!!!! And tbh I suspect that this might be true of everybody...

@beyoursledgehammer I still enjoy the Marten/Claire and Bubbles/Faye comics, and some of the Cubetown characters are fun, but so many of the characters added over the last year just aren't my bag *shrug*

i think a lot of people see general genuine enthusiasm for life as like lowbrow or simple or dumb or whatever but to me it's actually one of the most enlightened qualities an individual can possess

We (most millennials like me, and certainly Gen Z) were taught in the 00s and 10s that showing appreciation or enthusiasm was lowbrow, yes-and also that it was embarrassing. That the most worldly way to live your life was to treat everything with nihilism and weariness. That flat, cynical, often pretty absurd reactions meant you were aware of the bullshit that modern society can be, and the best defence was not giving a shit. Instead of being seen trying to make things actively better, it was way cooler to take the piss out of them. There's a reason bands like Fall Out Boy were huge when I was a teenager-because our angst came with a side of smartassery and some ennui.
