Overwhelming relief. 

My mom mentioned a couple of times, casually, that she was thinking about getting back together with Dad and I had a couple of DON’T YOU FUCKING DARE conversations with her about it. Like I think one time I was like ‘I will fucking walk out and move in with my Aunt if you fucking do it, Mom, I really will, I’ll quit talking to both of you if you fucking do this.” 

they were miserable together. they made each other miserable, and made us kids miserable. she hated his youngest kid, who wasn’t hers (remember they’d been split before). there was no way for her to have a healthy romantic relationship with my father. this fact effected all of us kids, especially my younger sister, whom again, my mother hated. there was no saving this relationship, it was doomed from BEFORE the first time they split, and they tried to stay together ‘for the children’.
