My Pebbles headcanon collection :3
Eggs used to be buried in the hot sand before invention of incubators, some communities still do it old school style but it’s considered very old fashioned and medically outdated
Pebbles are given bells to wear to help them hear surroundings before they get better at passive echolocation, the size and volume of the bells get slowly smaller and lower as they age to encourage practice
Very clumsy and struggle to navigate, will beeb and trill for parents to find them anytime they can’t hear them
Can only Sing one note at a time at first and they learn each note one at a time before they can learn to sing simple chords
Pebble toys are similar to cat toys as they are to encourage ambush predator instincts to help improve mobility and coordination. Pebbles will chase anything that moves and makes noise and have fun doing so!
Pebbles go though a phase of sneaking and stalking parents and siblings as play and it’s important to pretend to be startled when they ‘catch’ you to encourage confidence
They Have a sleep and wake cycle similar to a puppy! Will scuttle around super fast and play for a bit and then suddenly get winded and conk out for a nap, constant vigilance is needed when pebble sitting
When they get over their clumsy phase they are super fast! They have no sense of pacing themselves tho so will run super fast somewhere and then sit down and beeb to be picked up and carried
They Start life very smooth but will get more textured chips and scratches on their carapace as they grow up as long as they are not super duper sheltered, first chips and scratches are considered similar to loosing baby teeth in terms of development milestones
Parents often carry pebbles on the top of their carapace like possums but there are special cloths and slings made with pockets to carry pebbles in while they nap so they don’t fall off
Pebbles run colder than adults so instinctively seek out warm places to warm up for a nap, this leads to sitting on and cuddling with parents/family and sleeping in big pebble piles to make sleep watching easier and encourage bonds with other pebbles, they get warmer as they get bigger
They are very good at climbing and will get into mischief and climb into cabinets and ceiling fixtures if given the opportunity
Bigger pebbles that run warmer get great pride in warming up smaller pebbles and are encouraged to cuddle up to them, it makes them feel like big kids!
Very young pebbles instinctively think Grace is a big younger pebble due to running colder and will try and warm him up even tho they shiver from the cold after a while and have to go back to their parents but will warm up and return back to him
Pebbles who can’t talk yet, mimic sounds they hear to practice. They keep trying to copy Grace speaking English and usually failing terribly
Pebbles light enough will climb Grace and sit on his head and play with his hair or climb into his pockets to nap, he makes a very nice soft cool down rest spot after scuttling around the biodome at max speed having fun
To not loose any pebbles on the beach (camouflage) Grace attaches balloons to them like a house tortoise or dresses them in tiny high vis vests <3
Cried the first time he saw a baby pebble and cries most other times he ever sees one cause they are just so small!
