Imagine that Eridians grow with age, so when Rocky first left Erid, Adrian was around the same size as them, but now coming back all these years later Rocky reunites with Adrian and they're now like three times the size of Rocky.
Rock doing the equivalent of blushing furiously and swooning like "omg... my mate is so so so beautiful."
Also imagine that they never stop growing until death, so maybe by the time they reach 600-and-something and die of old age, they're MASSIVE.
So an old Eridian will just lumber off a ways, sit down, and pass on. and boom. they're a mountain now. That's a mountain.
Rocky leads Grace to two towering mountains and points up at them like "look look look! These were Rocky's parents!"
When your cat falls asleep on you.
The Eridian scientists were used to malnutritioned Grace, and did not know about stimming. The were realy chill and didn't over react at all.
"i wish i could be beautiful for you" was cringe and dated but it does get kind of interesting when you consider that elphaba holds up glinda as the perfect archetypal woman that someone like fiyero is supposed to want. so she on some level envies glinda for her beauty, and this is her expressing that envy by confessing that she wishes she could be like glinda. and now consider that envy often serves to sublimate homosexual lust, and glinda and elphaba's constant comparison with each other acts as a way for them to redirect their desire for each other. musical fiyero had to immediately comfort elphaba by telling her that she and glinda will make up

There's so many horror games about having to try to weed out and deal with inhuman imposters, but I want one where the script is flipped. You are something inhuman, you are an imposter, and if you want to survive you have to blend into a world that is trying to hunt you down and destroy you. You aren't human, but you must masquerade as one and infiltrate their world, or you will die.
I actually think we need to start inverting more Horror premises/tropes.
Like "You have to venture into the scary insane asylum!" VS "You're a patient who was admitted by force to an asylum, and you are very clearly in real danger, but everyone is pretending that you're just deluded, and are essentially leaving you to die because they don't really see you as a person."
I feel like there's a lot of Horror tropes built off of the fear of the other, when in reality it's actually often the other who is in danger. Maybe we could start recognising that more.
Interesting how the first half of the post has picked up popularity while the second part, which perhaps clarifies the idea of the original post, hasn't.
It's been interesting to see what media people are recommending based on the first post alone. A lot of recommendations for games/franchises like World of Darkness, Carrion, Kill All Humans, Among Us, etc. It's interesting because these are games that put you into the shoes of the violent other that has to infiltrate, without actually challenging the idea that the other is a threat. They actually parrot the ideas of the other as violent.
Funnily enough, the people recommending the comedy game Octodad understand the post much better than most of the people recommending horror media. A few mentions of Am I Nima, which isn't finished yet but does look like it could be what I am describing, so brownie points to the people recommending that.
But everyone saying stuff like "This is just being Trans/Autistic/Etc" really gets it, like really really gets it. Horror always communicates the fears and anxieties of the people who create it, this post was basically: "What if instead of communicating the fear of the other, we communicated the fears of the others, which are actually vastly more legitimate than the dominant groups fear of the other. We should recognise that it is overwhelmingly the others who are the ones who actually suffer and die, all for the perceived "saftey" and "comfort" of the dominant group."
This idea is about transphobia, it is about ableism, about anti-imigrant rhetoric and white supremacy, about queerphobia, it's about all of it. It is horror from the perspective of minority groups. It is the twisting of a trope built upon reactionary fears and narratives in order to critique them, it is a direct allegory for all those experiences you are describing.
Overall, it's just interesting to see who gets it and who doesn't.
Sanitarium and Fran Bow have you repeadtly escape asylums where doctors see you as a burden and try to kill you, escape one? You wake up in another and everyone tries to convince you your escape was a drug induced hallucination
Heavy Project Hail Mary book spoilers but im thinking about Stratt again. I'm so glad I read the book bc she is a totally different beast from the book vs the movie. The thing that stood out to me the most though is (in my opinion) her biggest fear of the Hail Mary mission failing due to human error.
The way Stratt thinks is so logical, she seems to not be driven at all by emotions or even morals. In the book she seems fucking insane for the choices she makes (paving the Sahara, nuking Antarctica, etc.), but she does those thing because to her there is no time for "right" and "wrong" anymore, there are only decisions that will help save humanity, and those that won't.
Her fear of human error colors pretty much every decision she makes. She puts the astronauts in a coma to avoid them fighting in close quarters. She originally wanted only straight men on board to avoid pesky feelings between crew members. She gives Grace fucking amnesia so him and Yao wouldn't let they're feelings of betrayal get in the way of the mission. She even seemed kinda disappointed that Dr. Lamai's robot arms weren't being run by AI.
This isn't a dig at the movie version btw, I still really like how they adapted her character, her and Grace. It's just funny how when you look you start to see HOW different they are, I mean book Stratt would never sing karaoke, but in the movie she did it as a goodbye to her astronauts, one last gift from her to remember her by. One good memory for Grace to remember her by.
introducing my fucked up son, Peter
Boy why you so legs!!!
We always talk about how Stratt is haunted by Grace's screams and cries at night, but what about Carl?
Carl, the guy Grace built an entire hypothesis around.
Carl, the guy that learned to have fun with Grace while doing science.
Carl, the guy that fueled Grace's addiction to Skittles and Twizzlers.
Carl, the guy that was there every step of the way until the end. And then he was forced to stand by and watch as Grace was pinned to the ground, pleading for help, calling for him of all people.
I'm willing to bet Carl is kept awake just as much as Stratt was if not more so, utterly tortured by what he'd done to Grace.
