my favorite thing about james ortiz is that he looks like how i'd imagine rocky as a human. if you put him in a lineup with 20 other people and told me to find the guy who does puppets for a living, i'd zero in on him immediately. truly the puppeteer of all time
IDrank abunch now im ready to party! Anyone gay

Fishpond Mosaic designed by artist Gary Drostle
@copperbadge I feel like this is something you would appreciate.
Oh, that is lovely. And I always appreciate an artist attribution too!
Here's the artist's website.
He's been doing mosaics like this for a while. (I followed up on the one in the top illustration some while ago, when I first ran into it online. I think I remember discovering that the town in Surrey where it originally appeared has removed it: no idea why.)
Oh I see. Sleep mask

i love how many languages have different words for "[specific animal]" versus "[specific animal] (but we're planning on eating it)"
pig (pork). cow (beef). sheep (mutton). deer (venison). veal (baby cows). this happens in many other languages (which possibly says something about human psychology and our inherent need to distance ourselves from the contradictory nature of our desires and realities).
but mostly i just think it's neat!
In English specifically, this is actually related to some neat history and etymology that I enjoy and you might already be aware of. (I am not a professional linguist, so take this with a grain of salt and know that it is simplified on purpose)
England got invaded in 1066 by people from continental europe. While the english peasants spoke then-english (Germanic family via anglo-saxon) the new nobility brought over from the continent spoke romance languages, derived from latin. As the nobility gave orders to their peasant staff, the nobility's latin-derived words for the animal took over for the form of the animal nobility saw, pre butchered food, while the Germanic derived words contracted to refer to the living animals. So pigs became separate from porcellus -> pork, and cows/cattle became separate from bovis -> boeuf -> beef, etc.
is it a natural and innate part of humanity or is it some shit they made up in europe
this is about the colonial enforcement of gender among many other things
