Ever notice how 80 to 95 percent of film directors and up to 96 percent of series directors are men? Ever notice how small compared to the rest is the chunk that can actually write women? Ever notice how romantic ships are created?

Romantic ships come from fans seeing chemistry between characters that is either placed there intentionally or not and deciding they want these people together which usually happens to male characters, commonly with their best friends because men can actually write solid male friendships

You want to know why there is so little yuri?

When you make a film/series and only have women in it to mark the "woman in main cast" box on your list and give the male protag someone to kiss at the end, it is only expected barely anyone will attampt to find bonds between them

The thing is I didn't really realise my parents were racist until I was a young teen because I didn't really sepak with them much.

I did show them drawings tho.

And it just so happened this fucker right here had a very specific vision for their favourite book character ever at that time (and one of my favourites to this day) aka Percy Jackson.

So this seven year old just kept on bringing their increasingly frustrated raciat parents shitty drawings of Percy Jackson made with their favourite brown crayon to the point their mother read through the entire first book and told them it isn't stated anywhere that he's black and I just stared at her unblinking and said something along the lines of "does it say he's not???" and went back to drawing and when they tried to tell me to draw him "a bit more like [me]" (I'm a white Polish kid) I would try increasingly hard to match his face features to mine.

ATLA SPOILERS

I keep thinking about Zuko witnessing dragon fire (and so close to his face at that) and for once in his life seeing it as something beautiful, not hurtful.

His childhood was filled with the expectation of greatness and glory, something he could not provide as a less-than-stellar firebender, and so flames in general were a reminder that he was a failure in everyone's eyes.

Ozai's fire left a permanent mark on his face, a handprint because no matter how much Ozai hates Zuko, he still believes Zuko is his property.

Azula tried to murder him with it far too many times for Zuko to see her flames as anything but an active threat.

Exiled on the Wani he was wary, a freshly wounded animal snapping at anything reminding him of his pain.

Training with Iroh was an exercise in control, not of Zuko's bending but of the rising panic everytime he saw hands lit ablaze, even if they belonged to the one person who would never hurt jim because yes, Zuko knew Iroh would cause him no harm and yet outside of his uncle that was The Dragon Of The West, the general who laid siege on Ba Sing Se relentlessly until the death of Lu Ten and even when the fear passed, the flames were something to tame and wield, to use to capture the avatar.

In Ba Sing Se, fire meant people after them, a constant thread of tangled anxiety because what if they find him and uncle?

Back in Caldera once again, every flame was nothing more but a reminder of the blaze that scarred him forever and the war room where it all started.

On the run with the Gaang any flame besides the campfire meant Azula out for their blood, and if not Azula, then one of her subordinates waiting to capture or murder all of them at once.

Training with Aang meant seeing his own weakness, a new kind of helplessness that comes with being unable to rely on your own ability.

made with acrylic paint, roughly 23 hours of my life (18 of which were spent in a row shrimped over my coffee table with a a paint brush is one hand and pure determination in the other one), the entirety of my red (I have white, black, red, yellow, green and blue only so the oinks and purples are all made with red), one (1) 25cm square of cardboard and most of my will to live

They came out cunt as hell tho, started the painting itself at 14:30 (half past 2pm for them americans) saturday, finished 9:30 today

I'm especially proud of pinkie pie and rarity tho
